Shit like this is turning me off DayZ :/

Recommended Posts

I was playing on a US server as it was daytime, minding my own business in elektro while looting the corner shop/house by the supermarket when some idiot comes running into the town screaming for help on direct chat with about 8 zeds chasing him.

I responded and he asked me to help him so he went on top of the office/school (whatever you want to call it) and started shooting zombies (this was all in first person btw as 3rd person was disabled). I stayed in the corner house for a few more seconds picking up mags for my makarov while i heard him shouting he was going to get down, next thing I heard was his legs breaking and "OH SHIT" over the voice comms. I went in, used most of my makarov ammo apart from 2 mags and he gave himself morphine and we cleared off the zombies.

I asked the guy if he was okay and he thanked me. THEN he said my friend was also shouting and I laughed, he said "Oh, hes just in the supermarket", so I went with him there.

I saw his friend lying down at the entrance in and the two of them said "Oh im so glad to see you guys," when the other lying on the floor said "You know my facepaint right? " Then the guy lying on the floor with a double barrelled shot his two shots at me, injuring me and bringing me down to 43 blood ! His shit accuracy meant he couldnt even break my leg nor kill me, so instinctively I emptied a full makarov mag into his head killing him.

The guy I had helped only two seconds ago said over voice, "hey hey hey whats going on??? " and I replied "I dunno dude but I guess im on 43 blood now" quite angrily. I then moved further into the supermarket, as zeds were moving in from his friends shotgun gunshots. I moved to the back of the store to reload my last makarov mag to shot some more, but then the guy I helped shot two bullets into my side and killed me.

Its just horrible crap like this is ruining the experience for me and also a lot of other people.

Some will agree with me on things like this, others will be just like "Lol, n00b stfu and just play".

You got what you deserve. Good job killing the first guy though. I would actually call that a good time in Dayz rather than bad.

Yeah I know its a bit all over the place, its only happened ten minutes ago xD, basically I helped a guy, we went to his friend, his friend shot at me without question, I killed him, then the guy I helped killed me.

Moral of the story ?..... stay the fuck away from elektro and people in general.

I got what I deserve ?? are you serious dude ? Its attitudes like that is the reason this happens so much in game.

This is DayZ, you can't really trust anyone. I help when I can and then get out of there! Occasionally you can find someone you trust, but I really only play with my friends.

Thats true, I'm just beginning to feel like the whole "Can't trust it if it moves" is killing the game for me.

Well you can look on the bright side, at least you all didn't Alt F4,

Shoot first and take their stuff next time. Don't get so attached to your lowly makarov character, just start again and get on with it, It's just "stuff".

Sounds like a pretty exciting and interesting story.

Other than the fact that you died, which is completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, why are you so upset?

Everyone dies eventually.

Don't worry so much about your stuff.

Worry about the stories and experiences.

And you just had a really interesting one, right? One you can tell other people about later? One you will remember for a long time? One that might make you think about humans and the way they treat each other?

Seems like great success to me.

Believe me dude, I couldnt care less about losing a makarov with no ammo, just the attitude of the guys in the game is what's pissing me off so much. I suppose its just to be expected from this game now.

I like your attitude Zed. I play for the experience. At the end of the day the things that matter to me are my family and friends. I play this a little after working all day and its a fun and i dont take it too seriously.

The best times are the times when im a fresh spawn and trying to find stuff to survive, crawling through town with only an axe or maybe no weapon at all. The times ive been killed by other players meh whatever good luck to you lol.

What attitude? That's the whole point of the game man, you never know if you can trust someone or not. It's what makes encounters with other players so intense.

It sounds like the guy lured you to his friend so they could kill you and take your stuff, but he failed miserably. Honestly as soon as you killed your attacker you should have killed the other guy too, they clearly weren't on your side.

Maybe DayZ isn't the game you thought it would be. Maybe it's not for you. But I would encourage you to look at it with a more open mind. You may have a friendly, only kill in retaliation playstyle, and that's perfectly acceptable, but you have to understand that there are a lot of people out there who will manipulate you, who will kill you for your can of beans.

It's what makes this game so exciting, you don't know if that survivor is going to help you and become a long lasting buddy who you add on Skype/Steam/TS/Vent/whatever, or if he's gonna shoot you in the back as soon as you turn around.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but personally I understand the frustration of being murdered by someone after you've just saved his friends life, and are coming to save him.

This game shouldnt be about trusting no one. You might as well go play a TDM game on a random shooter. This game was about zombie apocalypse survival.

There should be consequences to actions taken. Currently there is consequences to choosing a survivor path or mentality, but no consequence to all out kill on site. It is actually safer now to kill whomever you see rather than grouping up. There is no way to id a person, it is all left to roll of the dice on whether that person will be hostile. So what is the safest course taken now by players? Kill on site. Why? Well two reasons. One, better he than I. Two, no consequences, now you can go loot him and your life is spared.

Perhaps the bandit camo idea wasnt the correct path, but it was onto something. It had repercussions to killing players and back then survivors teamed up to avoid bandits or at least have a fighting chance. Now it is everyman for himself with players as the real threat and zombies as a nuisance.

Players dont need players now, they just need gear then they go kill players. My char is pretty geared up but why go help people? Anyone will take the opportunity to shoot me and take my items. So offering assistance is stupid. Since players will kill on site, I either have to avoid player contact, (which seems counterproductive to what this game was supposed to create), or kill first.

There has to be consequences for player killing.

EDIT: No one wants a physical identifier to whether a player is a bandit or not. Maybe something similar to examine corpse but for examine player. Where if they are within say 200yd range you can look at them and scroll your mouse wheel and it will tell you, "This player looks untrustworthy." Something to that affect to where you looked at the person, took an observation of their clothing, look etc and deemed him safe or not safe to make contact with. Trust would be based on how much player vs player activity they have been in within the last 24 hours. A rating that is not permanent but stays with you for a while. Could be weekly and reset every week who knows. This way you know to kill or avoid, however killing him also makes you untrustworthy. So you either move along avoiding him, or kill and lose player trust. Secondly I feel player kills should be displayed in global chat.

To be honest, this sounds like something from a really, really good movie. Hell, I feel like I've seen it.

You should wear this encounter with a badge of honor-you were ambushed after helping one of these bastards, and you didn't die without taking one with you. It's more proof that even with zombies, ArmA 2 is the most realistic game out there :D

I do think that the KoS mentality is something we need to move away from. Hopefully, when DayZ gets to a point that the unlimited ammo bug is gone, server hopping is eliminated and DCing gone too then people will be a bit more open to helping each other survive.

When all you have is the loot of one server, with constantly diminishing ammo, you'll maybe think twice about gunning someone down for no reason. It won't eliminate it altogether, but I do think that gameplay will evolve as the mod does. I trust the devs to get it right.

PS - It's 'Kill on SIGHT', not 'SITE'. ...... Sight, dammit.

If you want action taken against players killing others then guess what, no one is stopping you from forming a group of players for the sole purpose of hunting down and killing these players. That's the glory of this mod we are free to do whatever we want. Want to blockade a city and occupy it with your group and either create a safe haven for players or kill anyone else who tries to enter? You can do it. It is an open world for a reason if the players want something done against other players then...DO IT YOURSELF.

Why are you taking such unnecessary risks? So you met up with two random people you've never met before and somehow you're surprised that one of them killed you. When will people like you stop coming onto the forums and complaining and whining it gets very tiring. I'd hate to be a forum moderator.

If you can kill the person who tried to kill you. It's a win.

Never trust some random who says he is not alone, you are just doubling your chances of getting killed. Considering that is already going to happen 99% of the time, your not doing yourself any favors. As soon as you hear "I'm meeting up with" or "My friend is" don't even give him a chance to finish, just shot him.

I realise I am tempting fate, but I have non combat encounters with at least one person every time I play and have never, Yes Never been double crossed. I will only stop and deal with people if the respond by voice. I'm not gonna take my eyes of you to read your chat.

And your voice tells me dozens of things about you.

Before we get in close proximity I will have told you in friendly, but clear terms that if your gun gets pointed at me then expect to loose your head. I don't turn my back on people either.

But most of all I think it's the fact that before I even come out of cover both parties are under no illusion as to what will happen if they even sneeze.

I socialise with strangers a lot and have found surprisingly that the vast majority have been decent people. Sometimes I team up with them, but I trust my instincts and decline if I have the slightest doubt. I also tend to make sure they are never behind me ;)

I help new players a lot but I do so carefully. I will give them a gun if I have a pistol spare, but I tell them to wait there and I will leave ammo for it by that sign 50 meters away. Then say goodbye and good luck, and if you follow me I will shoot you.

Guess what I am saying is you can be nice and decent, (I murder no one) but you still have to keep your security as top priority. A mic is a must to let players know they are approaching your position and will be fired on if they continue. If they answer by voice there is a chance we may have a social encounter. But always on my terms.

Some people will always be dicks. But I have found if your decent but firm with people they will be decent back.

Edit: lol just had to add an encounter I just remembered... I had just spawned and had no weapon, not even an axe when 3 armed players appeared out of nowhere.

One of their team was injured and they were new players looking for the hospital. I told them I was heading there myself.

But during the first minute of our encounter the 3 of them were talking amongst themselves asking each other if they should trust me as they had seen youtube vids of people being robed etc. I stood there, unarmed as 3 players with guns struggled with the dilemma of whether I was a threat or not. how sweet :)

I would of just shot them all. If they have a weapon, they arent friendly.
