A Radical PVP Game Change? Take Sniper Rifles Out.

Recommended Posts

I think that Sniper Rifles are fine. If someone has the patience to sit on a hill for hour on end and watch a stretch of land, they deserve a kill. This is the life of a sniper. There are very few games out that give this same sort of experience.

However it is still worth a shot to see how dayz changes without sniper rifle.

Very interesting suggestion!

On one hand I'm with the OP: Having a gillie, sitting in a tree and sniping people from a mile away ist JUST LAME. It doesn't take much skill and it's totally unrealistic that there is tons of snipers in a zombie apocalypse.

On the other hand Snipers have a disadvantage if they don't carry around a 2nd primary weapon, forcing them to rely on their sidearms in various situations.

I'm not really sure if sniper rifles should be taken out of the game entirely.

I'd rather suggest to have only 2 sniper rifles in the game instead of 7.

These two should have a very rare spawn chance making them really hard to find, even in Military Barracks/ACTs etc.

I've only ever died to being sniped once (and it was in the middle of a big firefight at Stary so no big deal) so i'm not just some guy whining cuz I get sniped all the time, but I definitely feel that sniper rifles take away from the game. They remove much of the risk from PvP combat. When you can safely sit in some bushes on a hill 500+m from town with an INCREDIBLY miniscule chance of anyone ever seeing you and rack up kills why would you ever go into town? The people who do are just being reckless.

The game needs more cqc/medium range combat. I've found it very lacking past the initial spawn at Elektro/Cherno/South airfield. Once everyone heads north they start to play incredibly cautiously until they pick up a sniper rifle for themselves, because the risk of actually being in range of anyone with one of the <300m range weapons is too high.

Against it. Make the ammo for sniper rifles scarce and problem solved.

I have a ghillie suit, a DMR and I snipe people quite regularly. Although I don't think snipers should be removed entirely (it does add to the tension of going out in the open) they should be A LOT more rare and maybe just have the DMR and CMZ. Ammo should be incredibly scarce.

I'd even be happy to see scoped rifles removed from the game to see how it goes. Close firefights that might result in some interesting VOIP confrontations would be a lot better than sniping some poor sod from a distance for his medical supplies. I do it at the moment because it's effective and well, because I can, the game allows it.

something else would be, to make it harder to snipe... i sniped today a guy who was just unlucky... i was heading to military tents, so he did, but he was first, so i sniped him ^^ (he did DCed...)

it was the first time for me to snipe in Arma2, he was running from right to left, he just needed to run 20m to the next hiden place, i zoomed in aimed for 1sec and hit with the first shot (saw the hit of the bullet in his leg)... it shouldnt be that easy... sniping should be an art...

The sniping is taken from Arma 2 which is not a bad depiction of sniping at all. The problem is just the effect it has on gameplay. The fear of sniping means that no one in their right mind is going to be able to enter a town with 100% sure knowledge that they won't die to a sniper unless they're on an empty server. For this reason entering a hotspot area without a group with overwatch etc is just suicide.

By no means are AK's rare, and hunting rifles with military grade scopes wth zeroing, I imagine, quite rare.

In my opinion its hard to believe a post apocalyptic world full of Tom Beringers in ghuillie suits filling up their days with dreams of 1 km kills as they lie dick in the dirt watching for lopsided pvp encounters. I personally think the pvp aspect of this game is incredibly fun and can be incredibly rewarding in scenarios that are a bit more believable in a situation like this.

If you made people get a bit more up close and personal in pvp encounters it would add to the tension and fun in my opinion' date=' as well as negate much of the griefing that the new players complain about I will kill you without hesitation, but in doing so, you can at least rest assured i'm after what's on your body, not chasing the same rush a 10 year old gets from firing a spitball at the girl 3 rows over in class.

Its just a thought. I don't expect it to be a popular thought and I'm not even saying it necessarily should be done. I'm just wondering if anyone else has thought of this or what you think of it.

I'd lie to see people have to come to terms with how whiteknuckle they actually play this game when kitted up, maybe even shattering their false perception that they are some alpha warrior when in the end, they're just an asshole on the hill, avoiding risk.

disclaimer: i'd be lying if i said i haven't done the exact thing i'm talking about here, but in the end, we're all hypocrites.

well leave cz 500 in the game. Also reduce the view distance to 300-500 meters. Problem solved

Sniper rifles should be removed' date=' FOR TEST PURPOSES, it is in alpha after-all and if it means that there will be even a 5% decrease in PVP killings then i say keep it like that.

[/quote']

this. Leave the cz be. I am all FOR the PVP. But not when a sniper kills me from 1 km away. Its realistic, but totally ruins the game. Make PVP close combat w/o sniper rifles.

I will still pwn you with my enfield w/o you even see me.

. He's going for an "anti-game" like experience that is based solely off what you'd come to expect from real life.

. It's about war' date=' realism, survival, and being able to think fast and long ahead.

This game is realsitic *facepalm* Healing legs with morphine. *facepalm* Transfusing blood that heals a nearly dead person in seconds. *facepalm* Respawning loot on military bases *facepalm* Every person has knowledge how to use military weapons *facepalm* Unlimited batteries in NVG and thermal *facepalm* NVG and thermal have infinite range *facepalm* You can carry an engine part or a heli rotor? *facepalm* You can fix a heli rotor in seconds alone? *facepalm* Etc etc

Tell me again this game is about realism ? Are people so dumb to realize its still a fucking game ?

Ohh the tears of this thread.

If anything, they should take out military grade snipers, and just give us the hunting ones. And in RL they are NOT rare, to all you people saying assault rifles and cqc is more realistik.

I know atleast 4-5 people with hunting rifles with scopes on them (typically used for deerhunting, or the annoing ex), I know noone with assaultrifles, smgs, handguns, bazookas, nukes ect. ect.

But yes, it is way to easy to snipe at the moment, should really add wind and other stuff to make it harder, to keep people from using them at unrealistic ranges (compared to the skill it actually takes to pull those shots off)

Long range shooting is a popular tactic because the zombie mechanics favour it. Firing a rifle near zombies can easily bring a never ending horde on you, while sniping is more or less safe. That's just emergent gameplay, and fine.

What's a bit wrong is all the .50 cal rifles out there. They are far more common than they should realistically be. And the game models most of their advantages and few of their disadvantages, such as bulk or weight. That makes extreme range sniping a no brainer. On servers with crosshairs enabled, they are even usable as short range guns!

In comparison, the CZ/DMR/M24 are far more balanced with their reduced damage at long range.

Also, there's a stupid amount of server-hopping snipers out there, and that should be fixed somehow (along with server hopping in general). Outside of cherno/elektro, life as a single-server sniper is pretty boring, and you can easily spend an hour waiting for someone to show up. Only for them to logoff when you don't kill with the first shot.

Nah. Try running. You are almost impossible to hit while doing so. I understand that ragtag dudes in a zombie apocalypse don't usually have .50s in their arsenal. But Rocket weaves it into the atmosphere with heli crashes. If there is nothing better than winnies and CZs (maybe czs are bad example because they are actually rather good) where is the sense of progression. This is NOT call of duty. Which is true.

And because of this; some guns are way more OP than others. But they are also a lot harder to get.

Dont take away snipers. Just make them more rare. I would get rid of the high end military ones unless in crashed helis. Other than that, you should keep the cz550 hunting rifles since that is what makes the game much scarier when entering a town. You never know who's watching.

I think one reason people snipe other players is because the ammo is so scarce that you might as well use it on another player rather than zombies. But Im not an expert.

Rifles, add rifles without scopes, not every fucking gun has a scope. They re actually very irellivent, I shoot guns with my dad and friends regularly. Once in my life have I come across a scope, on a fucking air rifle. You do not need a scope to shoot 800m away. People on here have said on here about rednecks and their rifles with scopes, fuck of you steriotypical bitch. Rednecks may have guns but they dont all have them and if they do they surley dont have a god damn zeroed in perfectly lined military scope. Add in rifles, but make them less accurate or give them bad sights to make them less effective, keep them high powerd and remove fucking gillie suits, this is a apocalyptic world not a god damn cod game. Fuck. Yes I said cod, get the fuck over it. You dont just walk into a grocery store and get one, sure at a military base you might find 1, but theya re too common.

No. Just...no. Why don't we just remove other players fom the game completely, as make it single player! Because that's the ONLY way to fix PVP.

Also, me and four of my friends all own ghillies. Just saying.

very much agreed.

the game was bad enough with cz550's and dmrs - now we have ridiculous .50 cal sniper rifles with ammo up the ass.

banditry is too easy - just camp a hill in your ghillie and take pot shots at passing players. rather, you should be forced to use close-range civilian firearms, relying on cunning and strategy to get the upper hand in engagements. right now, whoever has the better gun wins. it shouldn't be like this at all.

Oh really? How come I've shot .50 ghillie snipers with a CZ from Elektro to the treeline? It sure as hell wasn't because of my gun. Just sayin', 80% of accuracy is the shooter. And he was tree cancer.

It's not just a matter of "lol I have the best gun so I win". I do agree they should probably do something different about .50 spawns- after all, they aren't common at ALL in the actual militaries of the world. But still. Just because they have a big gun and you have a medium gun doesn't mean he automatically wins.
