Bottle Suppressors

Recommended Posts

Bottle suppressors are both overpowered and gimmicky. Having three shots for a .308 or 7.62x54 is excessive considering how easy bottles and duct tape are to farm; many experienced players even walk around with multiple bottles suppressors on them in order to stay under the radar during pvp action. It's hard enough to catch players roaming around beyond the spawn areas and military bases, why should it be made harder by allowing them to suppress their high cal weapons without even doing the work to get an actual suppressor?

I think the bottle suppressor should only allow for one suppressed shot from anything above pistol caliber rounds (9x19mm and .45 caliber). This allows the bottle to be used in a pinch, maybe if youre making a precise snipe on an unsuspecting player or if you need to kill a stag for food, but stops it from being abused.

I think they should make it so it uses 1 full roll of ducktape instead of 1/4 of it. And the condition of the bottle should matter because right now you can get a badly damaged water bottle and craft a suppressor and it becomes pristine

those are really good points, and might even solve my issue with them

Somebody uploade a video of an IRL bottle "suppressor" on a mosin.

The mosin shot extremely loudly and the bottle simply flew away xD

But I heard oil filter suppressors are a real thing that are craftable.

Realistically bottle suppressors should not work.

In my eyes they are a standing for whatever improvised suppressors are doable IRL without needing to go into too much detail.

I wouldn't mind them being harder to make and having less durability since EVERYONE on the server running around with tons of duct tape bottles, which are indestructible because they are kept in bulletproof pouches, silencing their high caliber snipers and being undetectable is really unrealistic.

oil filter suppressor would be a great alternative, plus it be more bulky and possibly obscure some of the sight when looking through a scope. They could make it impact gun weight more so it has another trade off (more sway, less stamina), and make it take 3 components to craft.

I've seen the video youre referring to lol

this is exactly what I'm talking about. Shooting your rifle should be a decision that comes with consequences; players 1-2km away should be able to hear if you make a shot and decide whether to get closer or create distance. Also, maybe more players would go to the gas zones if they didnt have the easy alternative of a bottle + tape

I do not share your suppressor opinion 😄

From what I see on youtube and the news many warriors nowadays have access to suppressors on both M4 and AK.

You see them all the time in IRL combat footage.

Having them only be found in gas zones is almost as unrealistic as the bottle suppressor itself.

And being unrealistically forced to go into the gas zone, doing the annoying/chorelike (if forced to do) NBC loot route really makes me frown at the developers (I still love them).

They want you to do a gameplay loop, but why? That gameplay loop adds nothing but irritation and unrealism.

For the POX gas and VSS it totally does make sense to have to go there though. Suppressors should be there, but not exclusively there.

I am a realism lover, I want a hardcore REALISTIC apocalypse so I can live out the "what would I do if a zombie apocalypse happened" phantasy.

I'd even rather have them spawn in all millitary bases just extremely rare.

Why do you think shooting your gun should be such a heavy decision?

I was only making a hypothesis for what would happen if bottle suppressors were removed, not saying whether the gas overall is a good or bad thing. I actually think the fact that certain guns spawn in the same (small) places isnt good since it allows them to be farmed in a very unrealistic way; prime example is the bunker, which is totally abused for NVGs and AUGs. It would be nice to run into more players in there though. I think I've only had around five encounters in the gas.

I dont think it would be realistic if suppressors were common, despite what might be shown in modern combat footage. Historically, the NATO weapons would only be accompanied by a suppressor if they were issued to a member of special forces or the special operations command and I believe it's a similar situation for Russian forces, which would likely be using the VSS and SVAL for clandestine ops.

Everyone values different things about the game, and in my opinion, game balance takes precedence over realism; I dont think it's good for every player to have suppressors. That being said, I agree with having them spawn (very rarely) at military bases because there's very little reason to find yourself looting military bases these days - why would anyone risk looting a place like Swarog now that the Ak101 has been moved to the bunker?

If youre asking yourself what would you do in an apocalypse, I think you would do your best to stay under the radar while resource gathering. Shooting a loud rifle is big decision because it lets everyone in a 2km radius know youre there. A lot of my kills come from hearing a single round fired far off in the woods; I go to the area and search for any sign of the player, often finding them cooking at the nearest village.

As long as the devs look at some kind of realistic explanation to why suppressors do spawn in certain places and quantities I am happy.

The current gas zone restriction shows us that they solely looked at what gameplay loop they would like and completely disregarded the highly valued authenticity / realism and sandbox nature of DayZ.

Yes shooting a loud gun should definetly be an important decision for the reason you wrote, I agree.

But not if you have a suppressor, since then its way quieter 😄

And yes I often find myself thinking: Ok I will skip everything and run straight to Zelenogorsk to get a plate. Once I have the plate I already know there is no use in looting NWAF or Tisy, since the best I'd get would be an AK74 which I already found in Zeleno. The NBC run also gets denied because it is just hours of chore for a slighty better gun and suppressor.

Mixing up the loot pool at millitaries while keeping the tier system ( Tisy is best, Balota is worst) would definetly help with fun, realism and replayability while keeping the overall progression intact. Also decreases the NEED and capability to farm certain loot in certain spots.

I usually get like 6 fish fillets off spawn, then run straight to kamensk mb for a plate and an sks/ak74 and go straight to Tisy for an ak101. Or I just hit one of my stashes along the way.

yeah, something needs to be done about the farming of high tier loot; it's pretty game/immersion breaking.

Me and some friends did a test of bottle suppressor on a M4, made zero difference in noise.
