Zombie Damage

Recommended Posts

Just throwing this out there. I've been enjoying the game quite a bit lately, but I kinda wish the zombies would kill after they knocked you out again. It seems like they have much better AI and tracking abilities now, sometimes boxing players into corners, and I like how quickly it can get disastrous by them knocking you out. I still kinda wish that they'd continue to attack when uncon. 😄 I think it'd make them very, very scary. I think this would be extremely frustrating for some players, so maybe just have this for the "hardcore" servers where night times are darker and 1pp only. I also think it'd be cool to have a very slight chance of getting a fatal disease from zombie attacks. Other players I've talked to lately have brought this up without me saying anything so I know it's not just me lol. Alright I put it out there.

It would be nice if you would still take a little damage when blocking, something like 10%. When playing with friends i noticed that this happens a lot and they just wait blocking in the corner until you help them. Or something like a additional zombie attack where they knock you on the floor - you cannot fall uncon there.

Nerfing the zeds was probably the dumbest move the devs have made to date. They should be your primary antagonist in the game and they should kill you if they overwhelm you. Otherwise what the fuck is the point in them?

I play on the DayzIntenz server at the moment and that server in bloody hard. There's been a number of great improvements made to the game on the server, with an overhauled medical mod, a skill tree and infected that are very dangerous. For instance they're much more alert to your presence and can deal out heavier damage than in vanilla. They can give you concussion, or serious bruising and can cut you easily. They can even give you sepsis, which you'll need to deal with fast using an antibiotic.

Dealing with one infected person is usually fine, if you have a melee weapon of some sort (even a long stick will do). But three or four of them and you're probably going down. I was at the mil base in Zelenogorsk the other day and one of those captain zombie bastards saw me and screamed. I shot him with the Mark II, but it was too late. From out of nowhere, about 15 to 20 military zombies came running and I had to leg it to one of those green towers. I didn't make it and was beaten black and blue by them. When I woke up I had 10 hematomas, concussion, 5 cuts and was in pain. I had to crawl into a container and patch myself up. I still ended up with sepsis and had to slowly make my way to the medical building in town to see if I could get an antibiotic to cure the blood poisoning which, luckily, I did.

Wolves are a serious threat too and bears are to be avoided. No more messing about with them.

DayzIntenz also has seasons. Right now it's Summer. But I started playing on the server during Winter and it was the hardest DayZ experience I've ever had. In fact, it was almost like an entirely new game.

The only issues I have with the DayzIntenz server is that the zeds still don't kill you, even if they are more dangerous, and the weapon raise bug happens far, far, too often. But neither issue is the fault of the server. They're built in game issues.

But, yeah, anyway I'd really like it if the zeds could kill players again. Why they were nerfed in the first place is a mystery to me.

I actually got killed by zeds recently, full health full armor. The tisy zombies knocked me out and gave me 4 cuts, I died before I could bandage. But this is really the exception yeah.

Look for a server with the "PvZmoD_CustomisableZombies" and a manager that selects it because the Zs harass the unconscious players (it's an option of the MOD).

I like the idea of getting a fatal disease when attacked by zombies but it would have to be a chance kind of thing with a certain % attached to it. if this were to be introduced then I'd also be happy with zombies leaving me uncon for a 2nd chance at life, like waking back up and thinking ohhhh fck I've got the disease commence the mad dash for like an antidote from clinics or hospitals. I like the idea.

Aah!! Why are the infected so fast/hard/angry?

(...)

These people are very much alive, unlike the traditional "zombie", and thus can be killed with shots to the body - rather than just head shots. The player characters in DayZ are immune to this virus, and therefore do not "turn" into the infected when attacked.

Thankfully there is no rage-virus is the game. All needs balance. If one feature is taking over gameplay it's not funny anymore. Some people are finding "IntenZ" interesting and some - like me - not. Simply too much is happening there. Players have complete drugstores with them. In a world that should have very little usuable meds left it doesn't make sense. Some is good, too much is bad. Balance.

And finally about the main topic here... The damage infected deal is too naive in my opinion. Npcs stop their onslaught as soon as their target lose consciousness... It's too interaction oriented! People are treating npcs like garbage because of that. In my opinion rage-driven infected should at least try to rip its target apart. Not randomly stop because script is forcing such outcome. Is this survival game or not? The second biggest problem is bleeding mechanic. It's too random. It seems that type of clothing has nothing to do with bleeding. I can uderstand wolves and bears - they have means to inflict loss of blood with every attack. But unarmed people? Seems like specially designed clothing is not that special at all. More slots, more camo, some wind/water proofing - that's it. I'd say: less slots and more environmental proofing. Or gradual degrading of clothes. Worse condition = less slots (more holes in their pockets), bigger probability of bleeding wounds and of course (like it is now) less insulation.

Oh! before i forget... Infected must have their priorities straighten up. Its like this:

player A shots player B with a very loud weapon. Its so loud that people can hear it from miles. Some infected are alarmed and usually chase the victim, player B, because being shot or ricochet is higher in priority than the shot itself. Npcs seems to ignore louder event and are more interesed in the last known trigger for their rage. This is absurd. Absolutely insane type of thinking in BI. And also a type of additional punishment for those being assaulted with guns.

Very well put. I didn't know that bit of DayZ trivia that the infected are people. I suspected it from rumors, but never from Bohemia themselves. So maybe no incurable zombie virus, but a chance at some sickness would be nice, as long as the meds are in short supply. Zombies completely losing interest in a player looks and feels absolutely soulless and game-breaking. One of my first deaths as a fully geared person was when I was playing by myself, in the middle of a vast field finding a house, derping a few axe swings and getting knocked out by the 2 zombies there. I still remember thinking, "Oh crap, I messed that up." And sure enough they killed me. Also I loved rolling with a group or a partner and someone accidentally getting knocked out and pleading with the group to hurry and kill the zombies. It felt so intense. And there were hordes, and the zombie triggers are completely messed up right now. I agree 100%

Only thing I can say is that bringing this back would piss off a lot of casual players who probably would lose interest in the game quickly anyway. The reason I found myself liking DayZ so much more than other games was the potential of a violent, scary, intense adventure with each life. It's now basically guaranteed the death is to another player. I usually play and loot and survive until I've been alive way too long and go and seek pvp so I can get a new character. The zombies are a complete joke right now.

This is how I feel, too. When I first started learning the game a few days ago, I was having a blast because the world felt so dangerous to me. Learning how to survive the elements, along with managing food supplies and avoiding the zombie menace made for an exciting time. But now that I have a much firmer grasp on the game I am finding myself getting bored. Zombies should provide that sudden death random card that can strike down even an experienced player but they currently don't except in extreme cases of bad luck.  In general, I think DayZ needs more random danger, be it more powerful zombies or patrolling raiders or kill teams...stuff like that. Right now, once you gear up decently you go from being a "survivor" to a hiker rather suddenly. 😁Now I understand why there are so many DayZ vids that are all about PvP.  PvE needs a lot more chrome. The game is darn close to being a survivalist's dream but it needs just a bit more danger content to push it across the finish line.

The new mummy zombies are a great addition (I haven't played in a while so they are new to me) two of them nearly killed me when I tried to fight them out in the open. Got knocked out very quickly after to my surprise the shotgun to the chest at point blank did absolutely nothing, woke up with 3 cuts and flashing blood, by the time I bandaged myself I was passing out all the time and had to sit in a barn for ages waiting to recover. Now I'm not saying all the zeds should be that though but the regular ones do need a serious buff.

Yes, indeed. It`s a good thing that the mummies found their way from halloween event to the regular game. I remember my first encounter was a BIG SURPRISE. And ended deadly for my bambi. 2nd time, i was better prepared but it took nearly a minute to sent him asleep with my crowbar...

maybe they should consider to use some of the other gimmicks from events in vanilla, too.  Like the -already mentioned- infected with glowing headlights at night(halloween) or the fog around castles, for example. (Of course then not at the castles only but also in dense forests, deep valleys over lakes, mountains etc. Ideally it occurs depending on the global weather conditions, and simulates a local weather ).

Additionally do you remember the fly-sound, normally played next to a dead player only, during an easter event?  At that time it(the flies) also appeared when standing still for too long and It was really incredibly annoying, without any possibility to get rid of them execpt of moving around. But it was patched out of the game after a week or so. i can imagine they had a bad shitstorm because of this feature. xD

But listen, i discussed a similar idea about dirty/damaged clothes attracting the flies with my buddies, shortly before it came along with that event.  And guess what: one of them tried out absolutely everything to wash/clean his clothes and finally he took a bath in a pond, trying to get rid of them. ggg

So, i like to make the following proposal now: bring back the fly-sound as an indicator for the status of your  clothes/shoes/backpacks. it should work like this:

a) with 1-2 damaged/demolished/ruined itmes few flies occurs after x min/sec at standstill only,  with more than 2 damaged and/or demolished/ruined items more/louder flies accruing faster/immediately at standstill and maybe few flies when moving(exept sprint/run).

b) alternatively, if that`s too much and too disturbing in your opinion, then maybe consider to use the fly-effect with attached, ruined items only.

my conclusion: 1. flies could be a nice and practicable indicator for your gears` condition and possibly has some interesting influence on pvp/pvE (in case the Infected can hear the flies too, it can attract them to corpses or prevent you from sneak attacks). 2. clouds of dense fog(similar to toxic zones) can be used to simulate local weather conditions. 3. infected with lightsources at nighttime give an extra thrill and a target(batttery in headlight). it opens the chance that lights are more frequently used by players, too. 4. Everything is already in the code!

stay save and good luck, survivors!
