Dayz needs a stun gun, let’s talk about it

Okay hear me out, you walk into PD in electro and you see on the ground a stun gun, you’re holding a battery from a zombie that you killed prior. You load the stun gun with the battery and it can only take 4 shots before the battery is drained but it’s a one hit KO on any player in a 2-3 meter distance and past that it makes a player crouch and get stuck for a second like the throw up animation without the vomit. If the player has a plate carrier it only does a mild shock damage leaving the player exposed to other means of KO. This would add more options to encounters with other plays as well as setting up some interesting interactions.

im not a game dev so obviously I have no clue if this would work, be balanced, fair, etc but it seems like a cool concept and if you like the idea just spread the word

Every tool nowdays is like a stun gun - you hit/shoot and they're uncon. There is a taser mod so if it's a private server there is an option to install just that.

Kinda yes, as far as I know most guns have a shorter uncon timer than they used to at first, and most times target can get up before you reach him.

What's the point of the uncon if the player is unconned for like 6 seconds?

I think a stun gun is a nice idea, play the uncon animation and all, but don't make the screen black and don't mute the audio.
Just make a player unable to move while laying on the floor.
Also should last longer than the typical uncon from a pistol.

Police loot is garbage once you loot one or two mili places, and there's no reason that police loot is also garbage in high tier towns.

DayZ needs more less lethal or non-lethal alternatives. Tasers, Stun guns, rubber bullets (not just slugs).
Overall police loot needs new things like: Full Sized MP5, more modern shotty (could be short barreled for CQB and only 4 shots), lot's of missing russian SMGs in the game that could use 9mm and .380 ACP.

Police batons, police belts, police boots/shoes (worse than military boots when it comes to insulation, but long lasting like military boots).

Also how come DayZ doesn't have a swiss army knife?

it works but if you’re already shooting someone then you’ve already got intent to kill and sure the stun gun could be used that way but it could be more intended as a nonviolent means to end or even prevent conflict. Over the years I’ve learned that if you play dayz with a KOS mentality then it gets lonely and repetitive but if you don’t kill every person you meet you open yourself to many different experiences and with a stun gun you could safely meet someone without threat of killing them. Plus if you really wanna be a bad friend it would be a great way to mess with buddies

Honestly loving this idea, maybe dayz should take some time and give the police loot a revamp

The tazer, stun baton and cattle prods are all in the files already. They don't work yet, but probably only need a bit of config work to make sure they cause the correct amount of shock damage and drain power from their batteries. There are of course mods that do this already, but they tend to break every DayZ update, since uncon mechanics and shock also tend to change every update...

I would generally agree to the things said here.  Maybe that's the right solution.  At any rate, it looks like it's a difficult thing to balance.   Maybe they should cheat the system and reduce blood loss while uncon. 

Honestly, I've never considered stunning a player as a way to try and befriend them.  Subduing someone is a hostile act.  Like being hogtied.  Talking to them while they're in a building is usually a much more reliable tactic.  We're going to have to meet on equal terms if you want to be friendly.

We do need a stun gun, it would actually help with kos. If me and my mates run into a newbie with a baseball bat no one is going to bother shooting to disable only to have to waste our bandage on him and sure as shit I'm not throwing hands with him, which means we're shooting to kill. But if I could taser him and tie his hands while he's out we might actually torment him a bit and let him go. 

So yes we definitely should introduce non lethal projectile weapons, taser and even tranq dart gun would be a great addition. 

Imagine a tranq dart gun, you hear a faint shot like the mk2 does, your character does a quite groan but you have no health loss or bleeding, you decide to get out of there only to notice your vision going a bit blurry, your character slows down and starts to wobble, boom you're unconscious, not long later you wake up tied up. We could even make the adrenaline injection counter act the tranquilliser so if you acted fast you could prevent it knocking you out.

While the effect is similar, it's not the same.

Taser shouldn't make you uncon, but force you in a similar mechanic where you can't move, you are on the ground, but you see and hear everything.
Taser isn't: as loud as a shotgun, as heavy as a shotgun, as big as a shotgun.

This. I already carry an AK, Tundra, UMP and a pistol. There is no way I'm going to make room for a full size gun for it to act as a stun gun.
