why is this game still broken?

Recommended Posts

iv'e been playing this game for on and off nearly ten years, since it was a mod for arma 3, so i do know that this game has a decent fan base for it to last this long. so why is it that this is the only game that i play that's literally not playable. the ping in this game is ridiculous and they kick you out of a server if your ping spikes any, and recently its gotten worse! how? like do the devs actually listen or do anything??? this is why i've decided not to play this heap of shit anymore.

sincerely a pissed off fan

DayZ mod was never officially released for Arma 3. I suppose that was a typo.

When it comes to ping, that is most likely an issue between you and the server you are connected to. Try looking for a server that is closer to your location. The ping is made up of the time your system takes to send the message to the server and for the server to process the message and respond to it. Anything in this process going wrong can cause high ping and the majority of this process is not actually handled by the game but other processes. It is unlikely your issue with latency is caused by the game.

Why? Cuz I assume BI started this project way before they even had an engine for it. They had no tools to make the game they wanted to make and game development takes a LONG time if you don't even have an engine for it.
The fact they ended up switching engines midway through made it even worse for them, but hopefully they have a stable platform to fix the game properly.

Regarding the ping, idk man, no issues here. Wired solid connection that isn't even the fastest one. But I know a lot of people get kicked anytime their ping spikes up, it's unforgiving.

Listen to who? All you did on your account was post "game bad, not recommend". They usually listen to the community, and they do their best to make it a possibility if it's a good suggestion.

2021 has been a great year with lot's of fixes, and if you can't see that by all the patch notes they put out, then idk man... Sure the game isn't AAA level polished, but it's playable (provided you don't get kicked, which I agree is annoying and should be looked into).

Please do tell me when they didn't listen, cuz they have been on a good track record for the past 2-3 years or so.

Is this cuz of the hit indicator drama? Cuz this game just broke it's player base count over the weekend, so 1.15 has been a good patch.

EDIT: to be fair player count was inflated due to the sale too, so there's that too.

Bows, spray paint, vehicles, base building, medical systems, working AI, soft skills, carrying bodies... I can go on.

@Girth Brooks I love DayZ, I can't stand how BI treats the community.  From Flashpoint forward, it's gotten worse and worse.  The apologists just conveniently don't pay attention to what BI says and then NOT do, many times the EXACT opposite.  Prime example They said they would fix the desync and vehicle physics issues in 2021 with all the new staff they received.  Did NOT happen.

I do love this game, but the development company behind it has never figured out how to handle the community around it's IP's.  DayZ always HAS potential, but like so many other BI games, it will likely never reach it.  It took BI almost 8 years to get Arma 3 and it's engine in such a good state that the total conversions and other serious mods actually functioned properly.  Vehicles were in really, REALLY good shape in Arma 3.  But in DayZ, modders have repeatedly said that vehicles use bullet physics and that is one huge reason why they don't really act like vehicles to begin with, that, and the fact, that a deliberate change was made to make the server have authority over vehicle positions vs the client to keep hackers from abusing them.  Not that hackers don't abuse nearly everything else in the game, but those vehicles won't be hacked!  Nor will they be usable by the player base in some kind of consistent basis without them being modded to death.  Mods don't fix the problems with vehicles, they simply cover up BI's inadequacy of you know, actually correcting them in code.

I love DayZ more than ANY other BI game, and I hope BI genuinely proves me wrong, I really do, but like so many other promises and new features and on and on that they introduce and NEVER actually make stable and work properly, I fear vehicles in DayZ will follow that trend.  This is what you get into when you buy a BI game.  There will always be major game mechanics that neverr work right and get abandoned.

Some of those got addressed in 2021, not fully but they did touch up on it.
Base building - rebalanced walls and reworked raiding (while more materials would be nice... bases aren't their focus for now)
Medical system - reworked immune system, added fever effects, added infected wounds
Carrying bodies - although only for chickens, but I know what you mean. Would be cool to carry people if they are hurt or dead.
Spray paint - while it would be cool to have, I don't think it's on their roadmap for now.
Working AI - Like AI soldiers? Why?

Bow's are rumored to come in 1.16, and vehicles... well we know the story. I heard early 2022 they'll try working on it. They never promised a fix, only said they will try to fix it thus far.
I'm sure devs would love to have all of those features fleshed out in the game, but they are pretty much making a new game since the engine change and with limited human resources at that.

For some reason i get the idea you dont exactly know what it takes to make a game like DayZ. You seem to be highly oppinionated and somewhat informed of the general space, but you lack specific expert information on the subject. I suggest you don't make claims as to what should and what shouldn't be done, if you don't work as a technology consultant in the field.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullet_(software)

"Bullet is a physics engine which simulates collision detection as well as soft and rigid body dynamics."

Cuz that is the NAME of the physics engine... It's possible to use it for vehicles although it might be a bit tricky but it's doable.
GTA4 uses Bullet Physics Engine and Red Dead Redemption.

Maybe more games use it.

I never said I was some authority on these issues.  I have software development under my belt.  I host a couple of DayZ servers, and have been talking to the major players in the modding community incessantly over the years.  I have worked under several software development methodologies like SCRUM and AGILE and during my career have led a number of successful software teams.  Do I know alot about game development specifically... nope.  Other than the fact that I am well aware that making open world games is an absolute bitch, I do not carry any game specific development knowledge.  I know what my eyes see and what modders see first hand, and what I have experienced while scripting a few things for DayZ.  I bring no specific knowledge to the table; however, neither do you, nor anyone else on this forum other than the devs themselves.  So before getting your finger all pointy, pointy at me, you really should consider that you also fall into the same category as everyone else here.... we are giving our opinions and subjective anecdotes.  If that's problematic for you, feel free to ignore me.

Didnt ask for your CV.

If you don't know anything about the game, don't judge its state and development
