Blunt Melee Weapons Damage Exp. Update 1.12??

Recommended Posts

Ive played the new experimental update 1.12 on the Xbox Series X a little bit and have one question to raise. I personally think the blunt melee weapons ie. baseball bat, pipe, pipe wrench, ect. should do more damage if not the same damage as in the previous update when it comes landing headshots. It would only make sense right??? Landing headshots on decomposing zombies with a blunt weapon would seem to me to be the more proficient method of killing the undead than a knife in a realistic scenario. Because zombies need a brain to function rather more than blood. This should especially be the case when it comes to the new "Stealth Take Down" method. The blunt weapons should be a one hit on the stealth take downs. Maybe make it so that it has to be the full power swing for the one hit from behind or something. What do you guys think??

That’s what the “undead” are isn’t it? From every movie or game I’ve witnessed this just so happens to the case.

the infected are not decomposing.

The infected in DayZ are like the infected in 28 Days Later. In other words they're just people that have been infected with some virus and they can die like ordinary people. They're not like George Romero or The Walking Dead zombies, that are the dead brought back to life and can only be killed by destroying the brain.

But besides that, a whack to the head should still be sufficient to kill an infected person in DayZ.

You have undead (zombies) and you have sick people (infected) there IS a big difference.

You have slow zombies, you have fast zombies, you have intelligent zombies, you have dumb zombies. But then again you also have infected people. And depending on which movie/series you Saw that's your frame of reference.

If you look at what @Tonyeh said 28 days later "zombies" are Just infected humans (still human Just badly sick) and they are smart quick and inraged.

If you look at the walking dead, those are braindead undead who are mostly slow and unintelligent. But emphasis Lies on they died.

Now the DayZ "zombies" are infact people who suffered a virus that led Them to An inraged state who Just want to kill the non-infected. They still have most brain function and body movements.

They have covid+++ if you will 🙂

Read up on DayZ Lore is my advise. It Will give you a reason why, when and where.  Hope that helps.

Tldr: yes a splitting axe to the face kills everything

Okay, with that being established. How do you feel about what the topic is mainly about? Would you agree a melee weapon such as the bat, pipe, or pipe wrench to the head would still be enough to take down an “infected” with few hits?

I think everyone would agree with that.

The nerf in melee weaponry is an extremely bad direction for the game to go. Frankly the devs need to reverse that decision pronto. If you hit a charging person, infected or not, with an axe to the face they're going down.

Agreed. If they don't change it I'll just have to make a mod to the effect. While I really like the tweaks to the infected themselves, the nerf to melee damage and (and melee head trauma on zeds, apparently they have some magic force field around their heads vs melee) was a very bad idea. They've been doing changes to damage and shock damage output from both firearms and melee - but since infected are not affected by shock the damage nerf to melee weapons has a too strong effect on combat with them. It seems to me that there is one group/guy tweaking numbers for pvp "balance" and another group/guy working with infected. And they haven't been speaking to each other...

Personally I'd actually love if infected had a shock stat so you could knock them out but they'd wake up later to harass you or somebody else. It would make them more interesting.

I understand the need to make the infected a tougher opponent. But there are better ways to do it. For instance, give them a percentage chance of infecting the player with the "zombie" disease. When a player gets cut by an infected's attack, they have a % chance of contracting the DayZ virus. They then have a count down in which they have a limited time to find a cure. A new curing item could be introduced, to be found at military or refugee camps which they have to take over time to fight the disease.

That would certainly make people think twice about engaging them in a blaise manner, or shooting off their guns at other players just to kill someone.

Agreed that the tinkering that's going on with the game at the moment feels extremely arbitrary. But it's been going in that direction for a while. The messing around with boots and knives, when absolutely nobody was complaining about them, shows that.

With the MedicalAttention mod you get two risks with injuries from zeds, the wound infection (which you can get from anything causing bleeding I think, I can't understand why this is STILL not active in vanilla!) plus salmonella (or zombienella as someone named it...). This does give scruffs with them more danger, especially if your immunity is low for some reason. I love it, would never host a server without the mod... (It also has arm fractures, intoxication, biohazard zones and tiredness/resting. Great mod for any hardcore server.)
