Ever had the drop on someone and failed!?

Recommended Posts

I did. Yesterday I was at Cherno waiting, just chilling watching players pass by. With all their good looking loot. Anyways, I had a M24. And on the hillside i see a player sneaking around. Scoting the outer limits of Cherno when I notice they have a SVD camo!. :O -> :D my face! So I take aim, then I see a buddy of his pop up out of cover with a M16 0r M4 idk. Anyways. I watch them for a mint thinking how I am going to do this. As i watch and watch I try to wait for a moment of stillness.

But to excited I pull the trigger. And the bullet misses. To high. :/ I lower my zero, but by now they started jamming back up the hill. So I waste one whole clip on the SVD guy. Adjusting my zero and still getting low or high shots.

To end it they got away by going over the hill.

Was so bad :D This was my second time finding a M24. I need to brush up on my aiming and zeroing.

Don't be ashamed. Tell us your fuck ups.

I've failed but never died because of it.

I usually just miss a shot and we both run away like pansies.

I had the drop on some guy one time... shot him in the head, he ran around a corner, and was gone. No body. I didn't fail so much as his connection did. :/

Found a crossbow just before entering a fire station in Elektro. I went up the tower and there's a guy in a ghillie aiming out the window. He didn't see me so aired the back of his head out with a steel bolt and proceeded to pick up his M4SD, nvg, coyote backpack full of food and meds and an M14, etc. This guy was loaded.

I probably hung around a little too long, but left without an issue. I was stoked because I was new and never saw gear like that before. When I get outside I look back and see a guy in the window of the top of the tower. Being a total noob and not realizing that was probably a buddy of his, I didn't shoot him.

So I keep walking and get shot in the back. When I turned around there was two guys unloading pistols on me. So I emptied the mag of my shiny new M4SD and actually killed them both!........

And then proceeded to bleed to death before I could bandage myself.

I practice in editor. It gets really easy in game once you get better.

At balota airfield, I saw someone with a revolver on the wall inbetween the ladder and maindoor. I sneak up behind him and unload about 7 bullets into his back from my makarov. I'm literally right up against him. He doesn't die. He turns around, quite slowly and shoots me once with his revolver. I'm at 6k blood. I run into the tower, going around him. I deal with 2 zombies that aggro'd, bandage then get behind the staircase peeking out. I wait for about 10 seconds, then close the door and run up to the top of the tower and look for him, and he's just gone.

Yesterday, I found a Winchester in the barn with no ammo and decided to keep it. Went out and logged out. Today I immediately went back inside and saw another guy in there, sneaked up on him and click-click... remembered why I had to check the barn.

Not really 'the drop', but once our group was doing raids of the NW Airfield. So, my buddy was watching me from his normal overwatch position. I get on my bike (we happened to find one, so I figured a silent exfil wouldn't hurt, even if it was night), ride towards his position, and see him standing on the very end of the runway.

I call to him, he turns around, and he starts asking me over our TeamSpeak channel where the hell I am. I tell him I'm right in front of him, on the run way, on the bike. He tells me he doesn't know what the hell I'm talking about. Now, I'm assuming he just can't see me because I'm the only one with NVGs in our group (he has an FAL with NVG scope), but he's adamant that I'm nowhere to be seen.

Next thing I know, I'm down to about 9k, bleeding, but still on my bike. I veer off towards the southern barracks, while my buddy pops out of a bush and unloads into the guy. Fucker dropped, and if he died, his body went with him.

Like I said, didn't really have the drop. But if I had had a car, or something bigger than that shitty bike, he would've been a pancake on the ground. Mother fucker.

Oh yeah quite often ;)

Either I open up when I should not have or dont fire when I had the clean shot.

Way back in DayZ day-one I had spent about 2 hours running blindly through forests and crap then came over a hill looking down onto a town.

It looked normal to me except for the 'monkey' zombie who was heading INSIDE one of farm buildings, I remember thinking 'that's odd' so I went down for a look.

Peeking through the doors that the zombie had entered by I could see the monkey-zed hopping towards a guy that looked an awful lot like one of those bandits I'd heard about, he was side-on checking out some loot.

Course, I was not familiar with the sort of thing I was looking at so I just stood there staring until the bandit swung round and started firing at me, in the split second before I went down I got of 3 or 4 shots at him - I kind of hope I got him...

My first death (and it was to a bandit) and I learned:

1. Zombies go inside buildings for a reason.

2. If he looks like a bad person, shoot him.

True story.

Not to much of a drop, but a fail on my part. Me and my buddy were in Belota getting loot when I spot someone in the control tower with my binoculars. We decide to take him out as he is up there laying prone and just watching... We wanted to continue to loot and to avoid him seeing us and doing it first from the tower, we stake him out. My buddy goes behind the control tower of the ground level door and watches it. The guy in the tower was running around the glass tower and to the downstairs the entire time. While he was downstairs, I told my buddy to move in closer(We're at the end of the airstrip).

So as he is behind the control tower, I am still staking him out from afar. The guy darts out the back door right next to my buddy and then heads to the hangar next door. My buddy takes a shot at him. I start to move in to help out knowing where he is now. As I am closing in, the guy darts to the second hangar. By this time I am at the HMMWV just outside of the second hangar. We are both at each side of the door trying to formulate a plan on how to close in the rest of the way for the kill without getting ourselves killed... well apparently during our plan making, the guy bled out.

___

Another great story is when my buddy shot a guy in the woods. My buddy said that he was dead, but there was some zombie aggro so we took them out before looting. When we went to loot, it offered us to check pulse/drag body and whatnot. I asked my buddy if it actually did say he murdered someone. His reply was "no." So the entire time the guy was still alive bleeding for his life.

Yeah once, I was following someone thinking I was being smart by waiting for him to get further from the zeds before I take him out, but turns out someone following me didn't have the same patience and took me out, taking out my target too :(

But I've also seen someone else who got the drop on me fail. In a supermarket I was sorting out my gear, the guy comes up behind me and shoots about twice, I fall and he's forced to deal with a bunch of zombies, turn around and unload a fuckload of led into him, we both go down :)

Ive had this happen too. Was a barrack at NW. I was scouting it, and saw a guy. Shot him with my G17 after a small pause of looking for each other he died. I go inside and see someone on the floor. I go check him out and it gives me the option to check pulse. I was confused so i checked it lol. Not know what it meant, i left him be. So i go back out to where i killed the other guy and BAM. I get shot and die. Should have known better that no flies = not dead. And I've never came across anyone in that hourglass state. Now i know :D

My friend had just respawned in electro so I was heading back down to give him a hand in getting back up north. I was still in the cover of the woods when my friend said there was a ghillie sniper with something like an m24 firing at people in elctro from the hill below me.

I then spent about 30 mins slowly making my way down the hill towards him until I was literally right behind him. I only had a MP5SD, with a few mags so I aimed at his head and shot spraying all over his upper back and head. He then proceeded to spin round and one shot me with his sniper and run off after bandaging.

I now know that you should NEVER use the MP5SD as it is very weak.

I was running through Elektro looting the office building across from the hospital with a buddy.

I hear a thunderous gunshot and my friend takes a .50 cal to the chest, instant kill. Not even a second later another bullet whizzes past my head and I duck into the building. I grab a nearby Lee Enfield and decide that the sniper's AS50 would look better in my hands.

So I start flanking around the hill he was on, judging his general location by the gunshots I keep hearing, followed by a death message. I creep up to the top of the hill and hear more gunshots, VERY close this time.

So I creep down the hill, tapping W so I wouldn't make any noise. I see no sign of him until I spot the dust signature when he fires once again no more than 20 meters from me. So I begin creeping up on him still silent, wanting to mock him in direct chat before I scrambled his grey matter.

*CRUNCH*

He uses ALT to glance behind him to see what the noise was. I observe this and quickly aim down my sights, level the cross-hairs on him, and pull the trigger.

The bullet kicks up dirt where the sniper had been just a split second earlier. His super-human ALT-F4 reflexes had beaten my trigger finger. I felt robbed, that AS50 would have been mine if the sniper had been just a second slower.

I trek down the hill with a heavy heart, I would forever remember the AS50 that had got away.

LOL,

I was running through the NWAF to the control tower behind the main entrance and saw a guy coming down the stairs out the doorway. I was probably 20 feet away and had my ironsites out. Because of how high I had that rifle pointed I could not really tell how the guy was running, lowered my rifles to find the guy turn and finally see me. In the 8 seconds this transpired I failed to react and even pull my trigger out of my own confusion, the shock of coming upon another player unaware left me dumbfounded....he unloaded into me before I can even pull the trigger.

I also had a few players in my scope crosshairs to miss. I will just stick to surviving and leave the pvp to the pros :)

Hm, I've failed before and I admit that, but to be honest the legitimate amount of screw-ups on my part are very low, low enough that I can't remember specific scenarios. The ways I die are usually from A. Someone spotting my position whose near by, hopping to a new server, flanking me, and then re-logging to shoot me in the back. B. Hitting someone square, and them ALT-F4ing before I can land the blow that kills them before they bleed to death. In the last 2 days alone, of playing at the NW Airfield with my M24, I've killed 3 people, and all together hit 10 people with rounds. 7 of them alt-F4'd. 3 of which had M107s. Not happy honestly. It's like some people have ALT F4 bound to a single key-stroke it seems. They literally disappear before my reticule settles and I can fire a second shot as fast as the M24 allows.
