vfxtodd 125 Posted February 12, 2020 I noticed in the notes for 1.07 that PC players can choose between a "bright" night environment, or a "dark" night. Will console players have the same controls? Personally, I prefer the moonlit night version from the past that was once present in the game. I was so disappointed when they took that away. I've never been in an environment - out in the woods - where it was pitch black everywhere like it is in DayZ. It's not immersive at all if it's as dark as an isolation tank. Hello? I've gone camping deep in the woods, and if the moon is out, it's not pitch black. So, why did they take moonlight away?
supernick 33 Posted February 12, 2020 as loot-addicted i usually spend nightime in military bases, nvg on of course, so i prefer dark nights. But in all honesty, on ps4 server daytime there are 25+ player, night comes, number magically reduced to 5 player. I don't think game developers like it so they try something new.
Kean__1 144 Posted February 12, 2020 Agreed..... I use to camp a lot out in the desert and when the moon is out, you can see a lot more than what is portrayed in the game. When the moon is full, you don't even need any other light source as it is quite bright already. I sure hope these server options they're talking about are coming to console. btw, I just saw that they put 1.07 back on the experimental server again for PC to address a crash tied to inventory manipulation. The thing is, it sounded as if they already sent the patch to Sony for certification. I sure hope not. This patch and how well it addresses the problems, session options, etc. will determine if I rent another server and start playing again.

etaab 70 Posted February 14, 2020 Night time is ruined now imo. We're playing a game set in a cold section of Russia, which is similar in climate to where I live. When its night time in the countryside near me and there is no light pollution from towns, it is far too dark to see, more so in forests. Only on moonlit nights are you able to see like in Dayz. Now, since the patch every night is moonlit and almost twilight. Now I dont even need NVG anymore. It's a shame and I hope BI reverse this decision, because for me night time was base raiding time, but now it's just the same as night time in any other game, serves no purpose and just a cycle of cosmetics. Kean__1 144 Posted February 14, 2020 I like the new lighting. I don't mind them tweaking it but it is much more realistic for those moonlit nights. IMO, the lighting should depend on cloud cover, position of the moon, phases, etc. but that's likely never going to happen. As it is, NVGs still provide an advantage as I still can't see as clearly or as far as I can with them on. Either way, they added the option on private servers to turn that off or on so that's nice. If they decide to nix it, they should at least keep that option on rented servers as there would be no need to remove it. NVGs were way overpowered in regard to gameplay balance IMO / IME. At least with the moonlight, those without have a more realistic chance against those with. They still have an advantage, jut not as severe now. .....but again, I would love for them to go further with this and limit the lighting based on the factors I mentioned. Personally, I felt the game was boring when night time came on public servers as we would spend more time hiding out to avoid being picked off or stalked by those who could see as if it were daylight. It was always pitch black which is simply not the case IRL.
etaab 70 Posted February 15, 2020 Really ? Almost everyone I come across in the game has NVGs. I dont think they're limited in spawn amounts, our group has about 12 spare sets of NVGs in our stashes. The problem now, is you can just turn the brightness up on your tv and its almost daylight. My friend was building part of our base earlier in the dark without even needing his NVGs anymore. Also, night times are far too bright WITH night vision, now theres hardly any shadows making depth perception hard when looking into forests etc.

Disagree. There are already severely unrealistic elements to DayZ as a survival game. In real life, I doubt you would have mechanics that didn't work. Like lighting a fire, which currently is NOT working at all on PS4. Night time should include moonlight, if the moon is full. I'm watching a 3-hour video (1.07) by the RunningManZ right now. At 28 minutes into the video, he is in a town in an open area with a clearly full moon, and it's as dark as inside an isolation tank. Which isn't remotely realistic. I don't care where you live. If a full moon is out, you should be able to see better than being inside an isolation tank. Video games tweak reality for a reason. If games were completely realistic, as you seem to be seeking, they would be utterly unplayable. So, no, don't revert DayZ.

I've been cooking meat and drying clothing on a fire for months and it works very fell. I doubt you've even tried, or just haven't a clue how to make one. I think right there in one statement you've exposed your limited experience with the game. Literally, search youtube, theres lots of videos showing you how to make a fire. And you can disagree all you want, the point is the night is now far too light. Not every night is moonlit in reality, but it is in Dayz. Darkness in Dayz now isnt dark, it's just turns the brightness down, changes the sky to a darker texture etc. Its not actually simulated darkness which is was before the patch. I'm guessing you probably live in a city with lots of street lights and probably haven't ventured into the wilds at night. Do so, on a night where the moon is not out, you'll see why Dayz was true to reality. Edited February 16, 2020 by etaab
RyanS1994 110 Posted February 19, 2020 skimmed over these paragraphs didn't see anyone answer the question lol, 1pp has darker nights 3pp has lighter ones, if you own the server you can choose which setting you want.
