Why does everyone have terrible mics?

Recommended Posts

DayZ is probably the first game where I have actually used the party or voice features on ps4, it seems quite common that anyone I've played with or ran into have terrible microphones, Do people just go out and buy any cheap "gaming" headset? And it's not the game or playstation, it's people's microphones. Anyone else noticed this?

I would say no, its not purely an argument of cheap vs expensive.

I have astro a40s with mixamp. At the time they were the best part of £130, certainly not cheap..

When using the mixamp when compared to plugging in directly to the controller there is a noticeable difference when testing with the adjust microphone options on PS4.

Its much clearer when directly connected to the controller.

The game has in built voip and the quality can be adjusted from what Ive seen on private servers at least. PS4 party quality would be a Sony thing...

well people don't care about their mic quality because they don't have to hear themselves, I play with people who mics echo or they have sound going through the tv. It drives me mental.

Same, and kids screaming or dogs barking in background, really annoying when you're trying to stream, pretty much only found one guy I can actually play with that I can stream, could be a good thing though as he's getting into streaming too.

I got an audio technica at2020+, was actually surprised they worked on ps4, but the quality is a amazing, will never go back to "gaming" headphones or mics, the quality just isn't as good.

I use the official playstation gold headset, it's nothing spectacular but the quality is just fine.

Sadly my monotone voice is what spoils it!

You have not tried the premium > $180 ones out there.

I have a midrange $130 turtlebeach stealth 500p with X and y 7.1 and it's pretty awesome. I've tried more expensive ones and they are rock solid in the sound departement.

I find surround sound head phones to be a gimmick tbh, I got my headphones for more then just gaming so getting gaming ones wasn't an option for me, audio technica hasn't failed me yet, niether have Samson.

From experience, stereo is far superior to surround when it comes to headphones, as the usually use more low end drivers to keep the cost down, with stereo they use 2 high end drivers.

I don't even know where to start, because I can't take you seriously.

Haven't had serious issue with peoples mics for years, don't even hear iPhone ear buds on playstation no more (If you heard em you would understand). Perhaps you play with meth heads that have thrashed stock Sony earbud.

Your NWAF duper raid video. if you were in my party with that audio, I would mute you. Cheap condensers like At2020, are still sensitive, as evidenced in the background noise, (tv/ipad playing, someone/something moving about) and EMF hum. Hard surface reflections, check, and obviously there is a ground loop/cheap arse power supply issue, that ugly humming sound.

Samson and 2 high end drivers, smoke much crack? Samson is low end, serviceable, workman like, but nothing special.

A PSN friend in US sent me Turtle Elite800's, 7.1 surround was magnificent, but no boom mic and more importantly closed back means they collect dust. I use plantronics rig505 (wired, open back), $55 on sale, they kick it with $150 competitors. Being open back they have wider sound stage, so directional location is good. Have had Astros, meh, the Beats of gaming, don't like hyped freqs, although a bump at 500mhz is helpful for catching footsteps earlier.

Anyway you either trolling, or trying to brag about you low end set up.

That raider video wasn't me btw haha. Someone in my group. Not trolling or bragging, probably just had bad luck running into people on the game, everyone so far that I've ran into has sounded really distorted or has so much background noise.

I only play at night so I don't have any background noise.
