wolffe 52 Posted July 4, 2012 Here is my comp specs:8gb ram3.0ghz dual corewindows 71gb GTX 550TiI can barely play this mod properly. As you know many good things are in big cities and I just played a life where I went to elektrogorsk and took cover on the roof of the hospital with about 5 random survivors because some asshole was blasting us with an AK on the firehouse. after awhile he went to ground level (none of us have weapons btw) so we went to ground level too.anyways we all run the 3 story building near the hospital and he comes in, taunts us on the mic and kills about 7 survivors as some others had ran in taking cover as well.Am I mad about dying? no.what I am mad at is the fact that I could barely maneuver, hide, or sneak out of the area because getting 10fps in a city is extremely fun.I followed some ArmA tweaking guides and they helped slighty, not significantly. as a result i have to basically stay away from any building heavy areas but I need items from the hospital etc.Even in rural areas lag has hindered me. In one particular case me and my friend were looting a building when out of nowhere probably 20 zombies came in. We were trapped in so we used all the ammo we had to kill them as it was the only choice. During the firefight, fps dropped so low i had to be extra careful inbetween shots and i ended up shooting my friend killing him because of the performance lag.i can't help but feel people with rediculously monster systems have it easy as candy as they can probably pull off above 45fps in cities and are able to just obliterate people with average computers.edit: my friend also knows some other random people and earlier he claimed it was very easy to hack and use scripts to spawn any item you need. my hope is hacking is not as prevalent & easy as my friend made it seem. is it? species5021 28 Posted July 4, 2012 Fps is a bit of an issue in DayZ, the arma engine is a bit wonky. I can play most games on very high without a prob and DayZ can still give me a tough time. Next patch will introduce some large fps fixes. And if you are thinking of hacking then please don't be an idiot, the game is in Alpha state, we are helping test the game for free. If this mod becomes as great as it has the potential to then a perma ban would be one of the worst things that could happen to you. Also if you need to hack to have fun in DayZ then please go play something else.
Menny 116 Posted July 4, 2012 Bro, I run a i5 2500k @ 4.7ghz with 8gb RAM and 2x 6950 2gbs and mine doesn't go over 60 fps neither. It's the engine, don't worry about it.
Lilazzkicker 0 Posted July 4, 2012 Good thread, was curious about this. ARMA 2 feels a little wonky to me, Not used to the game at this point, thanks for heads up!
Aftershok 14 Posted July 4, 2012 There are some settings that you can use to optimise; here are the key ones you should change to boost fps.Video memory should be DEFAULT (not low, med, high)Put shadow detail on max (better visuals and better performance, win/win situation)Turn off post-processing effects3d/interface resolution should be the same, or 3d at +1 from interfaceAlso put your visibility down as servers have this limited anywayYou can also tweak your config, but with a PC like that you should be able to get decent fps. AllTheAces 0 Posted July 4, 2012 Yo dude is it really so bad that it gives you 10fps? I am playing on a Samsung R580 laptop 4gb ram intel I5 Nvidia 330M and i have like 25 fps in Cherno with Third person on... :P
sixbarns 217 Posted July 4, 2012 I turned down a lot of the settings to get decent fps.I also turned down mouse smoothing. If you have any weird lag to your mouse you may need to edit your config file too. There should be a guide somewhere. Just google 'AMRA2 mouse lag' or 'dayz mouse lag'.Just keep jacking with your settings until it feels right. Took me a couple lives to nail it down but my framerates are pretty good now. super pretendo 2 Posted July 4, 2012 This is the most unoptimized game I have ever played, so there is a good chance it's not your computer
random777 23 Posted July 4, 2012 8800 gt x2 Sli3.4ghz dual core4g rami get 20-30 fps in game, i run in window mode 1920x1080p and i've done some tweaking in the nvidia control panel. But arma 2 is more cpu intensive then gpu i find, i'd have both gpu's running at 60% and my proc running at 80-90% Next patch is suppose to fix some fps problems, check your drivers and look for conflicting programs. should be getting more then 10fps
robo (DayZ) 7 Posted July 4, 2012 The best FPS gain I had was turning HDR to low. Turn shadows to medium or so, post processing too. I play at 1920x1200 and no longer have laggy mouse issues or fps drops as when all my settings were maxed. Very strange too for an older DX9 game to be so piggy :Di7 quad, 560ti, 12gb ram-robo
Emrico1__1 0 Posted July 5, 2012 Going to need a quad core minimum for this bro.Even the best machines don't run Arma2 very well.I have a very high end rig and only get 60-90 fps on normal to very-high settings
Nyz 42 Posted July 5, 2012 Gonna go with unoptimized computer. My specs are lower and i run on normal with 35-45 fps
Toybox 36 Posted July 5, 2012 I'm wondering if this game takes advantage of physx? I have noticed my CPU under more load that usual compared to newer games.I have a i5 2600 with 2 gtx 285 in SLI and I find the game ok till I look through binocs.Only then do I find it drop under 25 FPS for a second then it pops back up to 60+

Nil fps issues.
flam3 3 Posted July 5, 2012 Great, another thread that simply asks if the game is optimized or not, (which it isn't, those saying they have decent rigs or whatever and are running with steady frames are just lucky) turns into a "My rig is better than yours and can get 300+fps on all ultra high settings". Before you start, i'm not jealous, I have a decent rig myself, I just don't see the need to boast, it doesn't help anyone it just shows what a complete douchebag you are or how much money your parents have because they buy your expensive computers.Bottom line here is that for some people on various different rigs, it runs fine, for others it doesn't. Throughout the patches, I have had horrible FPS, then after the next patch I get stable FPS so on and so forth. Some people say it's Arma II's engine that is the problem, others say it's the mod. That's why we are here, to test it.
chrismgtis 55 Posted July 5, 2012 The Arma 2 engine is the worst I've seen in 30 years. That includes it's lack of good optimization. A pretty "low performance" PC can play BF3 but not even hope to touch Arma 2. That says more than enough.
clodan 0 Posted July 5, 2012 my specs are below... for me the game works 100% perfect, if u can check one of my posts: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma2:_Startup_Parameterstry checking the init parameters... some that will improve performance are: -maxMem / -cpuCount / -exThreadsI use those 3 and the performance is remarcably awesome... I was just asking if this game is noticeably plagued by hacks. I'm happy to report I followed the links everyone gave me here and I'm getting greatly improved FPS. I can now shoot zombies with lethal accuracy and towns & cities no longer are unplayable, but quite the opposite.
ALICE666 0 Posted July 5, 2012 running a prety old and similar systeme8400 core2duo@3ghz stock4gb corsair ddr2800 ram560GTX 1GB (previous upgraded from 8800GT 512mb) doubled my dayZ fps!playing everything on normal with all the usual bits like AA,AF,PP off. Getting decent 30fps-40ish at 1440x900, pretty low res but all my monitor can support. Sometimes dips in the 20's in cherno/elektro though. My computers pretty unoptimized as shit too and the last time I reformatted was when I bought it six years ago. I did clean/dust out the box recently which helped though immensely... load times are still long as though.Just wondering how long it takes people to load the game and map and then spawn in game?(edit: and with what setup?) I am currently at around 4-5 minutes... Is there anything I can do to improve this? it's the only part im really unhappy with my experience with dayZ... bami 3 Posted July 5, 2012 Arma2 is heavily CPU bound so you want to reduce your viewing distance (one of the sliders of the "main" graphics panel). My i5 can barely run 4km distance, with a core2duo I would suggest around 1.5/2km, maybe lower it even further when you are nearing big cities like cherno/electro.
