Requirements for Day Z Question!

Recommended Posts

I have yet to buy Arma II or any of its expansions until i buy my new gaming pc (which will be soon). But to clear it all up for me, after looking around the internet I learned two things:

Arma II and Arma II Operation Arrowhead (or buying the Arma II Combined Operations bundle; works as well) is REQUIRED to play the DayZ mod. Missing one of these games renders the mod unplayable. (Question - Do you have to buy CO or can you buy them seperately?)

Arma II PMC DLC is needed only for hi-res player/zombie textures. Without it, you can still access the full DayZ mod, albiet with low textures.

What about any of the other Arma II add-ons such as Arma II British Armed Forces (which is an add-on for Arrowhead?)

(Another quick question - is Arma II Reinforcments include PMC and BAF mod for Arrowhead?)

Thanks guys, and correct me if any detail mentioned above is incorrect.

Got two entirely different things to say, but I'll first answer your question.

1) All you need is Arma II and Arma II: Operation Arrow Head. You can buy them separately, or buy them together as a bundle "Arma II: Combined Operations". Either way, those two are all you need. As far as I know the other addons don't matter except for PMC, but it's not needed, as you already stated.

2) What kind of gaming pc are you getting? Before I got this game, I was looking at a livestream where someone had a i5-2500k, 8gb ddr3 1333, and a GTX 460. He seemed to have trouble running it at anything higher than low/normal settings.

I thought my computer would stomp it (even though my CPU is a bit weaker) because I have an i5-2310, 8gb ddr3 1333, and a Sapphire 7850 OC Edition. Unfortunately according to FRAPS, playing on higher settings results in my FPS going as low as 31 FPS in intense areas. I think it might've gone even lower, but I didn't notice it.

Point is, unless you plan on getting like an i5-3xxx and like a GTX 680 or Radeon 7970, I don't see running this game at max settings possible to be a very easy to do thing...

With my current build I can play Battlefield 3 at ultra settings (Antialiasing all of the way up).

I plan on getting an i7-3820k model, and graphics card will be a gtx 560 ti. I don't plan to use fraps, so I think it will run the game just fine.

Also, does BAF do anything for Day Z?

Dont expect too much of the game in terms of performance, no matter what rig you have.

Arma is known to be an absolute unoptimized mess, technically. Hopefully this will change with Arma III, though I doubt it.

Hello there

IMHO buy the lot (DLC's) for Arma2.

There's a vast amount to the game apart from DAYZ and in comparision A2 is fairly cheap.

Lastly, do not expect to MAX out this sim. Not on any realistic rig. The RV engine is known to bring rigs down to their knees.

There are tricks to get the best framerate out of the game, but this isnt BF3/Skyrim etc, essentially it's a slightly dumbed down milisim/training tool that's meant to simulate small scale ops. It's not here for the pretties.

Lastly A2 with custom dynamic missions/gfx/sounds/new units is a phenominal game. DAYZ is just one aspect.

Of course I understand that, I will play Arma II as well as the DayZ mod.

I just want a 40-50 fps average on high settings; do any of you think the i7-3820 Quad Core 3.50ghz (10mb) coupled with the gtx 670 achieve this? Maxing out is not a priority, but high settings with a smooth framerate is.

I just want to get one of my questions answered:

Does BAF do anything for the mod?
