Is possible taming leathers in .61 stable branch without a barrel?

Taming leather is in DayZ 0.61 Stable not possible, even with a barrel.

However, tanning leather is possible in DayZ 0.61 Stable, only with a barrel unfortunately.

if you're around in about 7 hours I can arrange a barrel you can use for a few minutes.
