Add some "Useless" items to make Dayz more enjoyable

Recommended Posts

I think that Dayz needs more diverse items. Right know, looting a building is kind of boring. Every building is the same, has the same items, there are nothing to be suprised. Nothing to see new. So I made a list of items, that can make a looting more enjoyable. I don't know about you, but I prefer to see more useless items in game rather then usefull but repeated items, if you know what I mean.

Check out my list and give your opinion on that. Is that, for developers, waste of time, or they should implement such things into the game.

I like some of the items in the list. But I don't think an item should be useless. It is not worth the time or effort to implement. Not only so but a waste of resource. Each item has to be useful or fit the game some how. I.e. glass jars can hold water, but you can also break it to make a glass knife or glass arrow tips. Not to just sit on a shelf and look pretty with no intended function.

Btw. The developers have stated in the future they will have consumable drugs and alcohol. They already have can beer. In the future will they have intended side effects like being drunk or high? We will have to wait and find out.

In the beginning the game generated empty cans after eating a can of beans for example but I think they removed it for improving performance.

There are already some useless clothes like the medical scrubs or tracksuits that only have 2 slots and almost nobody uses it. It would be nice if this kind of cloth would be given randomly when the character spawns, for example tracksuit jacket and pants would be the same as the jeans we have now (4 slots).

I would prefer, that every Item can be used and different items and combinations of them get the same result. A sewing kit and many rags produce a makeshift sack.

Many of your Items can be usefull...

  • A meter can be usefull at basebuilding.
  • I want a cart! It would be awsome to go shopping in cherno... some cans of beans, a battery, a fireaxe... and it makes a lot of noise!
  • The belt could used to stop bleeding... or slow down bleeding, or you can ad little bags to it for ammunition maybe
  • Banknotes ready to burn >> Fireplacekit
  • Cutlery... mmmh not very effective but like in zomboid as melee weapons. I want to kill a Z with my beloved spoon!
  • Cart wheels to repair your cart
  • Fuses for the electricity system which will be implemented
  • Towels to get dry again
  • shampoo... you should be able to clean your hands with it like with the soap
  • The glass thing I like alot! shivers of glass as knives. Big shiver, 3 rags >> improvised glassknive

In a survival situation, nothing is useless. NOTHING.

Almost everything on that list of yours would have some sort of use, even the currency.

Clutter in of itself can serve a purpose, even if some items have no discernible use for survival (e.g. a Rubik's cube). Clutter is the smokescreen for the useful items players want/need, forcing players into searching a bit longer to filter out 'noise' when searching for loot, which is an important element that is missing from the game. And while that is good for game-play purposes, populating the world with clutter also helps create that lived in feeling.
