How does the loot system work now?

Recommended Posts

I've been away from this game for a long, LONG time. Last time I played, all loot spawned in at a server restart, and never respawned. I heard they were going to change that, so as long as people left an area, loot was going to spawn back in.

How does it work now, though? The reason I ask is because my character was starving, and I went through an unlooted Elektro and Cherno, and found literally 1 can of tuna. In fact, when it comes to gear, spending almost two hours going through both cities, I found maybe... 6 items total, 4 of which was freakin' bags of garden lime.

I made my way to the Balota military base, and that had basically nothing. I then resorted to server hopping across 10 different servers, 7 of which appeared to be unlooted, but having nothing in them.

When I watch YouTubers play, they're constantly gearing up super fast. What's the trick? Has a recent patch messed up loot tables? Am I just in the wrong area? Any help is appreciated.

- there's apple trees and berry bushes and chickens and fish and seed packets everywhere.  there's NO excuse to be starving.

- balota... wow you have been gone a long time.  try NEAF (jk no don't).

- youtubers generally don't post video of the times when they find nothing and nothing happens.

Pretty good (and still valid) explanation from Eugen of the CLE here:

In general, a lot less stuff spawns at the coast....

Um, not trying to bit pedantic but if you only found 6 items total, what made you think the cities were unlooted?  Clearly those would have been looted...

Anyway, whatever, it works the same as always.  Coastal cities will always be looted of food and just the junk will be left.  Running any coastal route is a recipe for not finding useful gear and the Cherno to Balota run is one of the most common gear runs in the game at the moment (Cherno-Balota-Pavlovo military base-Zelenogorsk barracks-Myshkino tent city-(maybe another town on the way)-NWAF) so yeah, easily accessible food stuffs and drinks will always been gone, as the hardcore PVPers make their 15-20 minute speed runs back to NWAF so they can PVP again.

Either accept it as is, or like Red_Ensign says, search for apples, matches and chickens, etc..  Alternatively, don't run the gear route and instead head inland towards the mostly unlooted towns just behind the coastline.

Man, you're wasting precious playtime by just looting the coast. I don't care if the servers just restarted, you need to run inland as soon as you spawn. With the addition of the fog, reduction of loot spawns on the coast, and the new military locations in the north, you'd be crazy to think that you'll find anything at this point on the coast.

I would almost guarantee that within 5 minutes of walking inland that you would be able to get fully hydrated and completely energized. And weapons, clothing, and other 'uncommon' loot drops are everywhere off the coast. I found an M4, a silencer for said M4, and 5 magazines within 40 minutes of logging into the server and running inland. Give it a try and then go look for trouble on the coast like the youtubers do.

Yeah, the others are right. You have to go inland now and check the buildings on your way. Check clothes every time, sometimes you can find food or ammo in it.

Many youtubers gearing up on public low pop servers, but i wouldn´t recommend that. It is a good feeling to fight for everything you have and you learn to avoid people, use different guns ect.

Have fun and survive.

Weird thing is the coastal buildings are showing up with 30, yes 30 pistols in one building. Some with mags, some with nothing. I thought for a minute we had a loot explosion going on again.

They are setting the point for new locations and the reintroduction of the sounds.

Thats my best guess, but otherwise the coastal towns are bare empty, so it is possible supplies will be hard to deal with soon and you will be come a farmer by no time, a long lost art in dayz :)
