Thermometer status changes to show outdoor temp

Recommended Posts

I heard an interesting idea the other day- can't remember who to give credit to but undoubtedly one of the Helpy Helpers gang...

The comment was something to the effect "I wish when you viewed the thermometer in your inventory that it would show the current temperature in game." This obviously came about as we've been struggling with the overheating issues.

It would certainly help you proactively adjust the clothing that you were wearing to suit the conditions...

Just a thought.

Back in .58 we did some debug island swims, some were successful and some weren't.  The ones that failed were always due to hypothermia - and it always seemed just a few minutes from the island that we froze.  On one particular swim, Tatanko, Odin Lowe and I were discussing that some servers seemed warmer than others and if we could find a server that was a tenth of a degree warmer that would probably be enough to make it.  We attempted to test a few servers but there was no way to be sure other than observing some arbitrary effects.   Funny thing, after our last successful swim in .58 we were kicked for "too much PVE", somewhere a screenshot exists.  After that we suggested a loot item weather thermometer, or possibly a fixed/static weather station (attached to a building or something).

Several people have mentioned it this patch, including myself and I do hope the devs are listening.  It just seems like such a fundamental thing to be missing from the game.

Finding an in game hiking watch with altitude and thermometer would be cool.

These days HR monitors have all sorts of functionalities that could be fun to use in game. Seeing what a climb with a full backpack does compared to walking without, seeing the HR and Joules used.

A GPS tracker could have the same functionality.

And some whistles have a compass and thermometer in them.

Farms should always have a thermometer outside on a wall.

It would be cool to see the in game temperature vary more. For the day and night, for the different weather conditions. Actually, maybe for the expansion, I like to see seasons like fall and winter too.
