Jam clearing

Recommended Posts

Most of us has probably had the annoying 'click' when we are about to kill somebody and its usually because of one of two reasons: You have forgotten to load your gun or the game unloaded it for you OR it jams because the game believes the bullets to be damaged(they are usually not but whatever) and you need to remove the magazine, eject the bullet in the chamber and insert the magazine again and then it might(probably not) work. The click is heard very easily by other players and they know you are defenseless and kills you.

Now, I once use to play a game called Americas army 2.0. It was a military sim "light" made by the US army as a reqruitment tool but it was also a damn good shooter. It had its problems but it was way better than todays crop of Cod spray and pray shooters even though its grapgics sucked and such. It ALSO had a jam function, where all autos could jam and some did on a frightingly high level(M82). In this game they had a function for clearing the jam where you pressed 'J' and your toon removed the magazine, ejected the bullet and inserted the magazine and was ready for action. I propose a similar function for Dayz, so getting a jam doesn't mean that you are guaranteed to die but you still have a chance. Or simply lower the volume of the 'click' so it cant be heard so easily as in real life there wouldnt be a click at all.

This function seem to exist already in Arma 2:

I've long enjoyed the idea of bringing jams and malfunctions into shooters. IMO, it's a fantastic way to get players away from simply run and gunning carelessly (because they can respawn) and forcing them to be a little more tactical or risk looking like a fool.

Yessssssssssss

LONG for the day when some scrublet runs up to me with an AK and tries to spray me, only for both of us to hear the "click".

Then I laugh and pull out my double-barrel and blow his boys off.

okay, i think it would be a really good idea BUT you have to remember, that in most cases its not the first bullet thats jammed, you are likely to get at least 1 round down range before it jams

I'm almost certain this is planned.

In STALKER I think you just reload your weapon and it clears the jam which is a nice, elegant solution.

In all honesty, this would take away from the realism of the game. I personally have never had a gun "false jam" on me when there is a good round in the chamber. Every time it has happened the round has been ruined. By introducing a mechanic that would allow you to complete FIVE actions (open inventory, remove mag, eject round, reload mag, close inventory) in a single keystroke takes out the entire purpose of having guns jam in the first place.

Now, I'm not saying the jamming feature doesnt need work. It does, and I'm sure it is planned. But a simple shortcut key to do it is entirely the wrong solution IMO.

@Killawife It depends on the specific type of firearm, but many IRL weapons do in fact make a "click" sound when you dry fire them. Usually it only happens one time after you fire your last round, but still... it happens. I do agree that the volume needs to be reduced a bit though, as you can hear the click from a great distance.
