1) They are around, and you can actually (depending on where you are, of course) get some pretty nice swarms if you fire a gun within a city. I was in Novo last night, and after firing a shotgun, i had 6 zombies sprinting at me.

2) Heh..... a little bit? They tend to get broken, then fixed, then broken every other patch. There are several different vehicles in, with various parts needed, but they tend to be ...... not really worth the effort to repair them. Some of them have problems making it up inclines, some of them can't really turn all that well. Most of them do some pretty sicknasty flips when they bump (literally ) into things

3) Nope, no predators in yet. And, unfortunately, it looks like they will be little more than "furry zombies" in behavior, but that is just conjecture from one teaser video. Animals can be found around, but they aren't exactly common.

4) You have to update to the -newui in your launch parameters. I got a semi-decent FPS boost, but nothing to write home about. My game went from "mostly playable" to "slightly more playable".

In all honesty, a couple of days after the patch, I was already bored with .59. There isn't exactly all that much different. The game is, at its most basic, the same as it was 6 months ago, if not longer back. The "main attraction" of the game is still "run around and shoot people", with guns that are variously broken and unbroken. Still no survival mechanics, no real medical mechanics, no basebuilding (asides from "stash shit in a barrel/tent"), no cooking, nothing really to do.

Zombies = Get off the coast. There are zombies in major cities not on the coast and things like NWAF.

Cars = In the game and repairable. You will probably not find a car that won't require a lot of work to get running.

Animals = Get off the coast. Predators are not in yet although I believe they might be on experimental before too long. Cows, deer, chickens, and such are around but tend to wander around.

FPS = Who knows? As in there are too many variables ranging from the server you are logging into, to your rig, to your ISP to tell why. I suspect you are running this unoptimized game that is currently using a hybrid system of the old renderer and new renderer on a shitty computer and expecting it to run like a finalized and optimized game does which accounts for your shitty computer.

Appreciate the feedback, its rough cuz I love DayZ but marginal improvement after all this time is disappointing. I feel like we are on the same track here.

Hey man I love DayZ as much as the next guy and have been a fan for years but no need to get salty if my opinion doesn't align with yours. My computer runs GTA V, Fallout 4, MGS V all on max/ultra so no performance is not the issue here. The optimization is poor and it bums me out to see that it has stagnated in terms of improvement. I hope they can nail it one day, DayZ is too unique and none of the copy games quite do it for me.

I started playing .59 at the weekend, having not played any DayZ for several months, and I'm really enjoying it. I think this mostly comes from the fact that I'd never played a build with vehicles in it, so it's quite a novelty for me to be able to fix up and drive a car (even if they are a bit 'quirky') and it does supply quite a lot of fun replay value in the game. If the OP is in the same position as me, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go.

Zombies are pretty rare - I've been all over the map in about 10 hours of play and have probably seen less than 10 infected the whole time - but they are better behaved than they used to be in terms of AI, line-of-sight and melee hit detection. Animals are also better - I found a herd of 6 cows drinking from a lake yesterday - I'd never seen that type of collective behaviour before (I'm now fully kitted out in hand-made leather clothing, natch!).

Fps isn't noticeably different for me (it was perfectly playable before, and it is perfectly playable now), but the 'vaulting' action is much MUCH more reliable than when I last played.

Loot balance is still way too skewed towards combat - guns and ammo are absolutely everywhere. I genuinely think weapons are more common than food, from what I've seen.

Gee, you can run optimized final versions of games just fine.... but this ALPHA which hasn't even started optimization and shouldn't be optimized till it gets the features completed doesn't run as well? Imagine that....

What did I just say about the game not being optimized?

I understand your point, Mercules, but I also tend to agree with OP and Whyherro123 here. I really, really understand it's alpha, but it doesn't make 10 FPS in Elektro any less frustrating. And speaking of content, for the past 6 months I've been coming back only for the new builds (all the two of them, 0.58 was very long there so you didn't lose much, GimmeBeans) to explore new content. And then I invariably drop out.

I'm not exactly a PvP kind of guy, a part of which is low FPS - in Cherno/Elektro my toon is like a drunk. But I also miss more zeds - maybe they aren't exactly nightmare fuel, but they surely add to the tension somewhat. And I haven't run into any animals for months. I believe they're still bugged like in 0.58. There's no point setting up a base due to constant wipes. All I recommend and what I am doing right now is fixing a car, having fun with it and exploring new areas they added in the North but not only (changes to Bere, new vacation rest areas).

Apart from that, all I do is patiently wait for the beta and yes, we're long overdue and much as I always defended the devs against the "gimme money back" folks, I'm kinda getting upset myself now. They spent 3-4 months on the cars which are next to useless now anyway, and what I'm really waiting for is more animals, diseases, all the survivor-related stuff.

Survival game? A freshly spawned toon can literally puke food within half an hour of looting a small village. It's really a My Little Pony game with occasional PvP here and there. I want the 'energized/hydrated/healthy' status to be as rare as the Steyr Aug.

And yes, I realize, understand and acknowledge that it's alpha. All I'm saying is 1) we should be going beta in 2 weeks according to the schedule, and 2) I find this alpha Chernarus a little boring, now in this alpha stage.

I'm going back to look for a Volga and see you all in 0.60.

fps is all your computer i run everything on high and game runs vry smooth for me. as far as the other stuff zombies are back. i run itno them all the time. theres no huge hordes ive seen but their aorun especially in citys. vehicles are a plenty and working good but take forever to find parts to get running. animals i dont know dont hunt much. i think the game has come a long way and is quite enjoyable now and certainly worth getting. for one its cheaper now then if you wait and it gets better with each patch so something to look forward to.

Yes, it would be frustrating, but there is very little they SHOULD do about it at this point. Optimization is one of the last things you want to do because any change you make can throw that out the window. The unfortunate truth is that if you want to be playing this game prior to release  you need a beefier computer than something that runs optimized games well. I planned ahead when I built this computer years ago and I still get good performance with every thing I want on high on high.
