Kohlbar 270 Posted November 18, 2015 Hi, so a few months ago I got this Lenovo erazer with:Processor: AMD A8-7600Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R9 255 and I was getting crap frames in cities, sometimes going as low as 10 fps. I didn't know why, but I carried on because the frames were at least slightly better than what I got on my laptop. Later on, I decided to switch which HDMI port I plugged my TV into, and since I used a different HDMI, my frames tripled and it finally feels like I'm playing on a decent computer! I'm pretty sure the manual recommended a certain HDMI port for personal use, but I disregarded that because I didn't think it'd make any big difference. I was wrong big time lol. I get 30-40 fps in cities and 60-70 in the open now. Anybody know why changing HDMI ports made such a big difference to my FPS?
Konfucious K 183 Posted November 18, 2015 Sounds like you went from using integrated graphics to your R9 255. Although I assume the 30-40 fps in cities is highs as opposed to averages?
Kohlbar 270 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) Sounds like you went from using integrated graphics to your R9 255. Although I assume the 30-40 fps in cities is highs as opposed to averages?Well, it might be more like 25 in the thick of the city, but on the borderlines i'm getting 40+ steady. This is a lot better than it was before and WORLDS better than the 5-10 frames I would get in cities on my freakin laptop lol. What you're saying about using the R9 makes sense because the HDMI port that helped the performance is on the Graphics Adapter slot of my computer, while the other is somewhere in the middle of the chassis. Basically, I was using the integrated graphics of the computer instead of utilizing my graphics card? This makes a lot of sense as it has helped pretty much EVERYTHING on my computer run much smoother. Edit: I play on very low settings, just fyi. St. Jimmy 1631 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) Where the USBs, internet cable connection, audio jacks etc. (these connections are usually vertically) are packed in ~5x15cm box and there's likely a case fan on the same level next to them, there's the internal graphics card connection. That's all the connections that go to the motherboard itself. Removable graphics cards (audio cards and whatever cards you can buy) are always on the expansion slots that are horizontal. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000935.htm Edited November 18, 2015 by St. Jimmy
sneakydudes 278 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) or you are in limbo at the moment and actually used a "fake port" situation but once you are restored it may reduce fps again. Meaning that sometimes if you plug a video port in while the computer is running it may resort to freaky settings and give you resolutions of over 3500Been there done it since i swap a ton of monitors around daily while doing repairs. It could be a faulty port, i doubt its anything like 1x hdmi and 16x hdmi situation like we have with express cards. I would read the tv manual just in case. Drivers,It may have updated drivers as well forcing in the new driver instead of the existing one once connected hdmi again. To be honest, even on low settings you are getting pretty good frame rates, especially since you're using AMD processor which are notoriously weak on single-core performance where DayZ is probably most strenuous. Although I've yet to play the game since 0.59 came out, just waiting for my next PC parts to arrive this weekend. But yeah, you've taken a huge load of the processing off your CPU and moved it to the GPU so it is no surprise the computer is running much smoother.

Looks like I was utilizing the internal graphics until recently, and with the R9 graphics card it is much better. No problem, delighted we could help shed some light! I think it is more that DayZ is being designed ON Intel/Nvidia but they both have their strengths it is just that AMD is a little behind at the moment. Though the Fury X is a beauty of a card and the new Zen line of CPUs is bidding to be quite a stunning architecture when launched so who knows what the next gen will bring. But yeah you will definitely enjoy your R9... I loved my one!
