Wili 156 Posted November 4, 2015 I would really like a new map more like Grand Theft auto maps, where graphics and detail are not as good as in Dayz but there are much more buildings each one different from the others. It really feels like a city rather than cloned buildings all over the map.The layout of houses and terrain is awesome in DayZ but I think it needs more diversity. If the buildings are the same at least the exterior texture should look different and the interiors should vary.I really would like a bigger cities on the next map.Maybe Dayz needs something like the Unreal engine BSP's for adding variation instead of making everything out of 3d models, I dunno. Here's a video from Grand Theft Auto so u can see what I mean:
HaseDesTodes 315 Posted November 4, 2015 It's very unlikely that there will be any such maps from official side, but you might be lucky and some modder creates the kind of content you want. If not, you could still create it yourself. That's a big advantage of DayZ (BI games in general).
OnionOfShame 138 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) The dev team has discussed creating additional maps and it will likely happen at some point. I doubt there will be a predominantly-urban map as you describe, given BI's tendency towards more rural, sparsely-populated settings (and besides, imagine the performance...you thought your frames in Chernogorsk were bad!). But of course modding is coming and some modder will inevitably make a more urban map. I'm not sure if it will be as varied as you describe here (as that may not be feasible) though. Wili 156 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) I don't think the performance would be that bad, in GTA V buildings are much more simple than in Dayz, what I'm trying to suggest is making a more diverse buildings but making a simpler buildings also so the city doesn't look as repetitive as in Chenarus. Graphics in GTA aren't that good either, I think Bohemia can sacrifice graphics a bit also in order to make the game more fluid. d.walker43 196 Posted November 5, 2015 I like the idea of a large urban area. I've actually suggested it before. if GTA can do it without sacrificing too much performance, why cant DayZ? The city would be where lots of the lore surrounded. The infection would have started there, and been the worst there. The most zombies would be there. There would be highways headed out, jam packed with abandoned vehicles of those who decided to continue on foot. The city is where shit would have hit the fan. Right now we see some of this spread out throughout the bigger cities in the map (namely Cherno, Electro, and Novo) but we need bigger. Just imagine a city the size of Los Santos in the corner of the map somewhere. It would be insanity. Slightly off-topic, but since a single-player version was being considered, perhaps we could have the single player mode be a campaign of the first days of the infection? You play as some 9 to 5er in the city, and as it all is going down, you must survive and escape the city, and once you reach the countryside or other safe refuge, that's the end? And then the online starts as it currently does, you spawning in the middle of nowhere. You could go back in to the city, but it would be extremely dangerous. But possibly extremely profitable. Great idea over all. I wish the dev's would consider it (or any ideas the community suggests, for that matter).
