Scope ranging, BDC, help

Recommended Posts

I noticed last night engaging some targets both moving and stationary I was having a difficult time making hits. First time ive engaged targets past 200 meters with the kashtan. I havent had problems with anything with an acog, or sks/pu combo, same with mosin, only difference is they have an adjustable zero where the kashtan does not. Now, I know the chevrons on the REAL kashtan and pso scopes are a type of bullet drop compensator reticle. Does this apply to the kashtan in the game as well or no? And is the rangefinder reticle on these scopes functionable?

400 meter default.  You better be aiming for the knees at 200 meters.

Okay, how about the rest? Is the reticle fully functional to do what it was designed to do or did they just make it appear that way?

No, all rifle scopes have incorrect magnification and none of their reticles are the proper dimensions. Kashtan doesn't work well with the AKM in particular.

Do what I do.. before that gun fight happens:

1. Find a barn or large wall to shoot at.

2. Get a considerable distance away, perhaps even pick varying distances.

3. Use rangefinder or dayz maps.com to judge the distance you are shooting.

4. Have friend volunteer to stand near where you shoot, if possible for reference.

5. Practice, practice, practice.

One of my friends put his helmet on the floor and stood next to it so I could take a few practice shots, he called the hits. Worked well :)

Just practice on fresh spawns.

Oh leave the fresh spawns alone and shoot the animals when they run...if their not frozen that is :P

Well, since you can fit the Kashtan on several weapons of varying caliber you can't really expect the static rangefinding reticle to work for all of them, for obvious reasons.

With a Kashtan on an Ak-74M here in the real world you can expect to have to shoot approx 25cm low at 100m due to the standard 400m calibration. I'm sure you can probably figure out that when the same optic is used on a gun firing a different caliber of round with different velocity and weight, the calculations shown on the optic (which remain always the same) cannot be correct for both weapons.

Practice is key, go find out for yourself.
