What's up with the loot?

Recommended Posts

So I am fairly new to DayZ and recently I have rarely found any loot at all. Is there something wrong with the lootingcycle or what's going on?

I've basically looked through the whole map. At the airfield and military bases there are only boots and in the towns there is basically no food.

Alright, thanks! Btw are the new cars coming to 0.59?

So is the word now, and it would be a major letdown if they didn't. But which cars and how many there will be per sever, this we will find out when the patch comes.

If you're running around in one of the few high pop private shards then I can see where loot would be a bit of an issue. "looked through the whole map" is a pretty ambitious statement considering most of us are using food for toilet paper once we move inland.

Welcome to DayZ where nothing makes sense!! I'm kidding. It's a good game, but you might want to spend a few mins searching the forums. There are already a ton of posts as of the .58 update regarding loot and a ton of helpful answers as well regarding where to find things and how the new loot system works (I swear I answered this very question a few posts ago). Good luck on your search for things!

Private hives may or may not be experiencing issues with low loot counts due to their stable playerbase at the moment. Public servers get hit with a lot more wandering players and server-hoppers, and thus their loot cycles more efficiently. Even so, I have not had any issues finding basic survival gear on private shards. I suspect this issue relates almost exclusively to you being fairly new, no offence intended.

Hitting up the out-of-the-way loot areas, like campgrounds and places like Kamenka, may help your quest.

The loot system is still incomplete and loot wont turn over unless interacted with.  The result being people take what they want and leave the garbage which just stays, taking up slots that could otherwise spawn something more valuable.  This will hopefully improve when items despawn without interaction.

I don't think it should be taking that long to find a decent long gun, with ammo, a sidearm, and some rain-proof clothes. I play on 1 server primarily, and there are two others in case one of the other ones is down.

First off, I searched the inland towns like Mogilevka, Dubky, Zelengorsk, Krasnostav etc, in houses and barns. Within about 5 hours of play time, I had found a winchester, some .308 rounds, a 1911 with clip, a magnum with rounds, raincoat, cargo pants, can opener, knife, axe, etc.

Then I hit up police stations and police car crashes, and smaller military bases (Stary, Zelengorsk, that unnamed one up north). Within about 10 hours, I had an mp5 with clips, and full Gorka+High occupancy vest.

Then I started running for helicopter crashes, which imo they have really nailed in the CLE. Found a UMP, SVD, lots of ammo. Then I hit up the NWAF and Tent City, got more loot than I knew what to do with.

You might just be hitting "dead servers" (as I call them). If you loot tent city and NWAF and find no upgrades, then that server is probably being farmed either by crews/clans or server hoppers.

I should say, I play on low-pop servers, so I can't really speak for high-pop. I've heard those are complete loot wastelands, where you'd be hard-pressed even to find a can of beans.
