goaskmalice (DayZ) 0 Posted September 2, 2015 hello fellow survivors,i have some questions about VOIP which may be really dumb. 1. is there some means of disabling VOIP entirely? not just turning the volume down, i mean?2. is there some way of letting other players know that your VOIP is disabled?3. is there some way of knowing when someone is using VOIP besides hearing their voice? i have logged a lot of hours ingame but i am very new to it, i have been playing only about a week or so, and i encountered my first players (who ended up being bandits) the other day. it took me a few minutes to understand what they were doing and what they wanted me to do, and thankfully they were fairly patient and did not kill me. ^_^ however, i know there are plenty of bandits who won't be so patient, and the problem is that i am hard of hearing and cannot hear if someone's speaking. the bandits i encountered just stood around me menacingly for awhile and i put my hands up in the hopes they would make their intentions/desires known. i got lucky that time, but i know that not responding or taking too long to follow directions is a good way to get a bullet in the brainpan. :o thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to answer my dumb questions! :D

klesh 2423 Posted September 2, 2015 (edited) 1. no2. no3. if you're close enough, you'll see their character's lips moving as if they are talking. It's danger close though. We used to have a girl in our community that was deaf. She avoided interactions at all costs rather than taking the chance of running into someone who would shoot her because she wouldn't talk. She played like a ninja, it was incredible. She'd be in a tree 20 feet away from you without you knowing, only to pop out and meet up. She had prime situational awareness, despite zero audio. I wonder if she is still playing? It's not impossible to get by though, you know. It'll be an extra challenge (and extra reward when you succeed). Perhaps finding a roleplay server who's rules are no killing onsite or something would offer you more interactions with patient players? edwin3 74 Posted September 2, 2015 1. no2. press f2, then textchat3. see above addition: im not always a bandit, but in unclear situations or high risk areas i mostly kill quickly if someone doesnt answer via voice chat or doesnt react to my voice. you should look out for a private roleplay hive, where kos is forbidden and the admins are active. greets
ZogVarnoka 26 Posted September 2, 2015 Try the BadBoyz server. It is a roleplay server with no kos. The folks I ran into while playing there were pretty cool and they have active admins if someone is breaking the rules.
