Gamma & Night Time Gameplay

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Just wanted to get your thoughts on Gamma adjustment in DayZ, in particular for nightime gameplay. I personally leave it as is, its darker but i feel much more immersed. Things like camp fires, torches etc have much more meaning to me this way. What i find though is that most players crank the gamma right up so they can practically see everything anyway...in a sense negating the need to build fires etc to see in the dark. I'm left at a tactical disadvantage as they can see me much sooner than i can see them. I dont see the point of night time play, or the night time crafting if this is going to always be the case.

My question is - Do you think that Gamma adjustment should be locked?

I look forward to hearing back from you

I think that gamma adjustment locking in game will be pointless as you can still up the gamma via graphic card setting.

Too bad we can't have real night time without gamma cheating. Flashlights, pistol flashlights, all those colorful chemlights, road flare gun and head torches, cars lights, fireplaces etc are useless as it is for now.

However, I think If I remember correctly, there was a game on PC Alien versus Predator 1 or 2, where there was the darkness and I tried to cheat it with cranking up gamma but it would not effect the darkness in slightest way. So maybe it is possible to make night time uncheatable.

This has been discussed before, many times, you could have picked any of these topics.

But anyway, gamma is there for players who cannot adjust their monitors any further and they also deserve a nice image.

The only way to "solve" the problem with gamma is to have pitchdark nights. Which is realistic sometimes, but not every night. We had pitchdark nights in a game called Mortal Online, when it was in alpha. It didnt help to crack up gamma, it was dark either way...without a torch u where walking around blind.

Pitch dark nights in DayZ (no gamma cheat) sounds great to me as long as there is no overpowered Night Vision Goggles in game.

I Used to gamma all the time on the mod and man it spoiled me. full moon nights also spoiled me because I didn't even need to gamma. The current game of DayZ makes night time play very spooky (especially when playing with DayZ mod soundtrack on winamp) and I know it's gonna get me killed but im not turning it up.

DayZ mod soundtrack is really spooky, I had to turn it off after like 2 minutes because it was making me too nervous.

Kinda like Fallout 2 Necropolis theme

I'd love to see the gamma cheat issue solved, too. I like to play nights and sometimes I find them really spooky, although I believe it got much lighter during the past year. But the first encounters with zeds by night made me shit my pants and it actually cost me some nerves to visit the Green Mountain at night, what with all the stories you hear. If everyone was bound to use some kind of light (or barely see anything without it) it would be much cooler!
