Make doors default locked ;-)

Recommended Posts

I'd like to see a couple houses locked, but not all, mainly because in the case of an evacuation (Especially in a zombie apocalypse) not everyone is going to be worrying about locking their doors, they'd be more worried about avoiding the infection and whatnot.

Some doors will also have been forced open / damaged by looters. So the game should have locked doors, open doors and damaged doors that can not be locked or maybe not even closed.

I wouldn't make them ALL locked, if they were all locked i imagine that would piss off quite a few players. Besides that, i love the idea and i hope you get many beans!

most doors should be locked ,espacially military, some should even be randomly barricaded (with a random barricade system like 10% of the server) to unlock the door you can either silently picklock it with a picklock kit, or bash the door in with an axe till the lock breaks off (which makes allot of sound which can attract nearby zoms)

Great ideas in this thread! It would be another nice little touch for immersion, and could affect looting strategies. I like it.

If you think about it shouldn't the majority of doors be unlocked? All of these buildings have clearly already been looted by someone other than the players, otherwise there would be large amounts of anything you could really need in any locked house.

That could be a mechanic, though. Locked houses are rare, but if you can find one and break in then you can find pretty much any civilian loot you could ever need and then some.

Just because a house is "locked" doesnt mean it should have loot. Dayz is designed to unfair, I think it should stick with the loot economy mechanic, and not have a "treasure trove" behind a locked door in a house. Unless mind you, a player stored their shit there.

I'm talking more from a standpoint of realism. Think about it...there are only items left over in houses because the pre-apocalypse owners did not take those items. The general lack of items in each building indicates that at least one party has already been through and taken what they needed. If someone has already been through and looted the building, the doors will be unlocked. Thus locked doors would mean that no one has broken into the building yet, and therefore significantly more items will be left over (probably mostly untouched, except by the original owners if they were home when the apocalypse started).
