Lack of zombies?

Are they really scarce? I haven't played much since the update, mostly just getting food and water near the coast and moving to meet up with clan mates. I assumed the Zed's had been killed by other players and I'd seen one or two.

 

Since then I've moved inland and I don't even carry a weapon any more when I go into towns. Sure I have one but it isn't deployed.

 

Was in Novy Sobor (I think) and when I hadn't seen any zombie in ages I emptied my SMG into the air on full auto and waited for 5 minutes, nothing. No zombies, no attack.

 

Why are they so scarce?

I think zombies currently do not respawn, so if someone kills them they appear again on server restart.

 

Also zombies are known for hunting animals, so it is possible that they went after some poor bunny rabbit into the forests or something.

For me it seems I go for long stretches without seeing ant, then see a bunch and get chased by 2 or 3 at the same time. Kinda hit and miss.

Pretty sure it was a server performance issue with the masses of zombies they had on the test servers ( there were actually quite a bit)  I'm just very glad they didn't COMPLETELY remove them like they were saying, at least you still get jumped randomly every so often.

i'm picturing you getting chased by literal ants.

If you were in a town that a player was just in before you, the zeds probably lost sight of the player but were still grouped together.

 

If you were in a town that no players have been in since a restart, there should be a lot of zeds in the town, assuming that they do actually only show up on restart.

With the .57 update which landed a week or so ago zombies became pretty rare - a lot less of them spawn, and they don't respawn until the server is restarts. This is temporary, a work in progress.

Yup. Went to Cherno on a private server with about 20 people on it, the place was deserted save for a few isolated creepers. The server restarted, and Cherno was full of zeds once more.

They don't seem to respawn at all.

That was fixed several patches ago, as for this patch zeds don't respawn once killed so it's a moot point at the moment.
