World containers?

A few days ago I saw a DayZ Studio Tour video and there was showed a refrigerator as a world container, all working and shit, so my question is what happened to it? I haven't seen any info about it after that, googling or forum search didn't help.

 

 

 

If anybody knows something about this, please share your info :D

Yeah, I just think... The video is pretty old so I'm surprised that there is no info about it.

(I'm not complaining about dev speed, I think they're working pretty fast for such a big project)

It hasn't been commented on since January I believe, but world containers were a goal for Q2 (which ends at the conclusion of this month). I doubt we'll see them on Stable by then, but maybe in 0.58 Experimental. My guess is that this was something waiting on the new inventory system, and we're beginning to see that new system in 0.57 -- so it can't be too far off now, unless it's still dependent on another new system that hasn't been added yet. Similarly, I think we'll begin to see vehicle inventory (and parts/maintenance) very soon as well.

Nope. Their goal was to be testing it internally by the end of May, and as far as I understand that goal was met. Haven't yet heard anything on when it might appear on Experimental, though.

Yep. With the new inventory matrix, which we're experiencing (struggling with) currently in 0.57, will come the ability for all of these things.

 

It's exciting to be following how these baseline features are being reworked (also, the character controllers, among other features), and what will come next once those are polished and ready for release. Glad we have a great dev team that shares as much as they can about the process.  :beans:

I'm hoping world containers play a major role in base building/barricading.  I'd like to see base building become basically taking over a building, barricading it to make it "secure" with the containers (cabinets/fridge/whatever) being the major loot storage places for players.  Potentially with some form of locks (breakable/counter-able) for added security.  Then expanding said building into the heart of your compound/camp by constructing basic fencing/walls with an area for farming/tents/vehicles etc.

 

That's the direction I'd like to see it go any ways, since I think there's a lot of potential already there and it gives more meaning to the millions of buildings they've added.
