Rags! 1966 Posted June 9, 2015 I think most people are probably favor the idea of there being both servers for different people...and that many many of those people don't want the view of the 3rd person camera to be so easy to exploit. I do also believe that many people asked objectively would agree that constantly seeing the back of your character is by definition immersion breaking. Your reasoning has some merit, however I think that a person's ability to feel immersion is extremely subjective. I think there is another way to look at it: When you see your character from a third person perspective...you are seeing not only the environment around your character but also the character herself in that actual environment. When she's kneeling by a bush, running through the woods, hiding behind a wall...you see the character as everybody else will see her. In effect, by viewing her from a distance, you are seeing her "immersed" in the environment that she is in. That way, perhaps it is easier to picture her in that scenario...and thus...more relatable? Also, I noticed that the finger I use for my scroll wheel gets a great deal of exercise in any thread where BioHaze is active.
☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted June 9, 2015 -snip- I think there is another way to look at it: -snip- You made a good point and I have conceded to personal preference. You could then also say those are 2 separate types of immersion. Immersed in environment as opposed to immersed in your character. Then it could be argued further that one is more immersed in the environment in 1PP (I am within the environment) rather than seeing yourself as an extraneous accoutrement within it (I am a decorative element within the environment). For the purposes of authenticity in almost any context, seeing directly from the perspective of the protagonist (1PP) classically places you "in their shoes". pilgrim* 3514 Posted June 9, 2015 my idea is : Force 3PP for Single Stable Release now argue
hleVqq 139 Posted June 9, 2015 (edited) ↑ Seems like you completely missed the reason why I suggested forcing 1PP in the first place. Feel free to (re-)read the original post. Or I'll just give you a hint: population issues. Edited June 9, 2015 by Powerhouse
pilgrim* 3514 Posted June 9, 2015 (edited) ^Exactly - we ought to give the 1PP players a chance (force them) to play 3PP for a while so they realise how much they like it. Then they can have fun on fully populated servers.I understand your logic for further discussion on 1PP/3PP check out http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/225409-how-would-you-feel-if-1st-person-perspective-was-mandatory/#entry2268261 it's not a discussion that seems to be getting anywhere. rybec 339 Posted June 9, 2015 ...you see the character as everybody else will see her.If that was the case there would be a wall, or a corner of a building, or a tree blocking your view of your character.heh
