finding other players and how do i chat with them?

Recommended Posts

hello,

i'm playing DayZ for 2 days now and i encounterd like, 3 players.

when i found those players, i tried to chat with them with the / button. but they didn't seem to see my i"m friendly! messages but i saw theirs (they didn't talk with headset).

what am i doing wrong? oh and i have another question: when i encounter players, they are most likely in groups of 2/3 (so far). i'm all alone atm. how do i become a member of a group? of course you need to meet a player for this, but how do i find other players fast? thanks for reading :)

I don't really understand the question.

If you want to use a headset, hold down or double tap Caps lock (Double tapping toggles) and just speak.

If you're going to type, just use the forward slash (/) and type what you need, then press enter. Make sure you're using direct chat (You can cycle with the "," and "." keys if I'm not mistaken).

If that's what you've been doing, then they can most likely see the messages, and do not care. A lot of times people don't want interaction of any kind, because that's usually a safer route to go.

You need to use a microphone. You will find yourself getting shot a lot less if you utilize a microphone.  Strangers are much more likely to just shoot you if you don't communicate by voice right away.  It's just how it is.

Perhaps you should browse the Recruitment or Server forums here to find other like minded players.

Good luck.

You've been playing DayZ for two days now. You have much to learn. You are better off staying alone until you hit around 150 hours of gameplay. That might sound insane but IMO it is worth it. You learn the ropes, learn how to do things on your own, eventually you learn how to handle other players (in large numbers too). After around 150 hours you will feel confident with what you are doing and you will be able to lead yourself through thick and thin, from killing a zombie, to robbing other players, and even saving them. At this point you should either find someone IG which can be a difficult and time-consuming process, or you can start a new topic in the Recruitment sections to find a few friends, or a whole platoon to fight with in this jacked up world.

Cheers.
