Yawdarious 30 Posted April 22, 2015 I apologize if is in the wrong subforum,i don't however belive it belongs in trouble shooting or anything because I'm not really having an "issue" I have most my settings on low and have an average 30 fps, but I have heard having settings on all low can give you less fps than having some increased settings... If this is true, is there any certain settings that effect this in particular that I should fiddle with? Asking rather than trying because I'm at work at the moment, any input would be appreciated! Excanto 336 Posted April 22, 2015 I have noticed that when I had my settings on all low it seemed jerky. The real end result of my fiddling with the settings is being able to shoot zombies from a distance and looking into buildings far off to see if I see any players roaming around. Another issue I had was that bushes would not display and only showed a black shadow, which was hard to determine if it was a bush or a player in black. At this point I have objects and terrain on highest setting. It used to be that you could not see at night unless you had HDR on low, I'm not sure on that one anymore, but it's still on low. Texture detail is on normal and everything else is disabled. Now at that point you can adjust the resolution to make it playable if it is not at those settings. I have 1680 x 1050 monitor and have it set a bit lower then that resolution to smooth it out. FYI the real test of the smoothness is downtown in a big city and try to run around the block a few times and make some u turns. :-O
anarky321 36 Posted April 22, 2015 there is no simple answer to this, you have to run live GPU/CPU overlay and see what you're being bottlenecked by, towns bottleneck CPU, forests bottleneck GPU
SniperV (DayZ) 43 Posted April 23, 2015 So is there any way how I can improve my fps in current version of SA? With everything on minimum and 1920x1080 resolution I get around 45 fps in small towns, slightly better in villages and just barely over 30 in big towns. I used to think that it's the fault of buggy ArmA engines. I know that devs don't want to call what we have now an ArmA engine, because they either "improved it" or replaced with "something better". I haven't really played ArmA games since my PC upgrade, but yesterday I decided to check out Chernarus Wasteland in ArmA 3 and...Holy Shit!Running on high settings, game looks beautiful and delivers stable 60+ fps. Why can't we have ArmA 3 engine in SA? Seriously, grab ArmA 3, add zeds and you allready have something better than current SA. I guess it's time to check how Breaking Point is doing... SniperV (DayZ) 43 Posted April 23, 2015 Wow. So a finished game (arma3) runs better than a game that's still being made and is awaiting massive changes to its core engine. Who woulda thunk it... ArmA 3 in alpha stage was working better than current SA. Event ArmA 2 engine is smoother than what we have now. Even though, they had working ArmA 3 engine, they choose to not pick it, so now we're stuck with shitload of engine related problems.

smochi 2 Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) I've heard many times on this forum that putting shadows on normal/high+ offloads the workload from the CPU to the GPU or other settings to normal. You can try that but for me it only makes my FPS worse in cities and i've seen no mitigation from the cpu at all with overlay programs tested with several high end rigs.Only way I got a reasonable fps was to get my cpu 4770k wto 4.8ghz in cities on very low. anarky321 36 Posted April 25, 2015 its funny in Breaking Point i run scene_complexity at 1,000,000 but in Dayz i have to dial it down to 80,000 for the same level of performance
