Equipment belts

 The reason I made this post is because it bothers me a lot that every geared player has a (military) vest.

The problem is they all look verry similar and since they cover a big part of a players body, geared players look verry similar.

To overcome this problem and to get some variety, I suggest some equipment belts which would act as vests in the current inventory system and may even be carried with a vest in the future.

 

Here is a list of examples that came to my mind:

  • Modern military belt (War belt)
  • Old WW2 militay belt
  • Police belt
  • Craftsman tool belt
  • Hunting belt
  • Medic belt

(The last 3 would be great for RP)

 

I know Pistol holsters and knife sheats have been suggessted many times befor, but my idea is different and more specific so let me explain it:

The idea is that a belt (depending on the type)  would have holsters which can only carry a pistol or a knive and a few normal slots for storing any kind of gear.

This would make them superior to the chesthloster and even equal to some military vests. The downside would be that they are less versatile.

 

To make this more clear I will now describe each of my examples in detail:

 

 

Modern military belt (War belt)

Features:

  • Pistol holster and knive sheath (both for any handgun/knife)
  • 4 or 5 storage slots arranged like the riders jacket (so you cant carry bulky items)
  • The total storage space if you take holster and sheath into accout would be 10 or 11 slots, not bad, eh? ( like a combination of militay boots, chest holster and press vest in one vest)
  • Spawn: general military

 

 

 

Old WW2 militay belt

Features:

  • Pistol holster
  • A pouch for the canteen or a sheath for the field shovel ( the shovel would be good for farming)
  • This would basicly be the same like the example above in terms of storage, but with a different setup
  • Spawn: general military, maybe civilian as well

 

 

Police belt

Features:

  • Pistol hoslter
  • Baton holster (electric or police)
  • Radio and handcuff pouch 
  • 3 stroage slots
  • Spawn: Policestations and cars, Prison Island

 

 

Craftsman tool belt

Features:

  • 3 Pouches for small tools
  • No pistol holster
  • 6 slots for storing other gear (3x2 slots for bigger items)
  • This toghether with cargo pants, construction helmet and checked shirt would be epic for RP
  • Spawn: Industrial

 

 

Hunting belt

Features:

  • Hatchet sheath or pouch for the PET bottle
  • Knife sheath.
  • Pouch for 50 shotgun shells or .308 rounds
  • 5 or 6 slots for other gear.
  • Spawn: Civilian

 

 

Medic belt

 

I couldn't find a picture that a like, but imagine it as a simple belt with one first aid kit (the one already in game) on each side and mybe one in the back.

 

Features:

  • 12 to 16 inventory slots, but only for medical items
  • no first aid kits inside the belt
  • maybe protection from KOS if you carry this instead of a military vest together with the full medic outfit.
  • Spawn: Medical

 

 

I think these would be a great additon to the game because of all the reasons mentioned above and one other reason:

You would see more all the nice clothing nice clothing if it isn't covered by a vest.

It would depend on how the belt inventory section was layed out. Normal belts wouldnt have the capacity to carry anything large, so i could see it being something like 1x6, or something equivilant to that.

To many open slots imo.

Needs to be just for certain things like knives, handguns, etc.

I've seen belt ideas before but this is certainly the best proposed one.

 

I like the idea of being able to store specific items while also having a couple of slots for other items. Would mean we could carry important items like hatchets far more easily. 

 

Could maybe alleviate a small amount of weight when the weight system is introduced as well - or even apply a penalty so there's a bit of a tradeoff when given access to free inventory slots.

Having belts as a counts-as vest is a neat idea, at least until the inventory/clothing system gets fleshed out.  I would prefer to have both belts and vests for obvious reasons.  You hit the nail on the head about cookie-cutter appearances, and I like this as a way to add variety, not to mention a place to put all the damn tools we have to lug around.

I totally agree with this idea, it's outstanding! (tbh I've been thinking about this today taking shower but as I see you've been first :p)

-Military molle belts ale called 1st line (you can take off your plate carrier, but belt contains the most necessary equipment). I think it would be good idea to make them work like plate carrier in dayz, useless compared to other vests (storage) but op with attached pouches. Imo molle belt should be used with: ifak (molle medikit), pistol holster, mag drop bag, and pistol/carabine mag pouch. (we are talkign about endgame stuff, be generous with space :) http://www.gearsoc.se/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=6018&start=90

-WW2 military belts... they require too much ww2 era stuff to be useful, and these are not so common these days :p

-police belts are a must, another good loot in poice stations. No more handcuffs and keys running around backpack :p

-craftsman tool belt= BRILLIANT! finally something worth a damn to look for at work sites.

-medic and hunting belt- Not really necessary i think :p I'd rather suggest civillian waist pack:

Except dedicated Ifak and wepon holsters, all these should be raw equipment slots. I have work belt and I can put gun there with no problems :p

Keep in mind that DayZ canteen have Alice clips at the back of pouch. That mean they can be attached to any belt :)
