Tents really worth it?

Recommended Posts

So me and a friend set up two tents in a remote area. About a day later, someone had been there and stolen them, along with most of the loot (some of the loot was found on the ground). On a high population server, someone is bound to run into your tent in not a very long time, wherever you set it up, I think.

Perhaps use tents on empty/low-pop servers and then play on high pop sometimes, for fun?

(the tents were set up around here http://dayzdb.com/map#6.032.009, with some trees acting as cover)

I've just passed closed there and saw a truck in the woods, they've must be really lucky to stumble upon a tent that far north. Honestly it wouldn't be fun if there wasn't a chance finding someones tent, I would use it on a high populated server I usually play and just "yolo" it as people would say :)

I hoard rope and burlap to make improvised backpacks to hide under the trees near my tent, my tent just holds farming stuff and a few pumpkins to run to if I end up respawning. I put small guns ammo and clothes in the backpacks and long guns on the ground under trees and bushes nearby. If someone were to find my tent they'd hopefully be distracted enough not to notice the bags.

I play on low pop because of my shit ping so I'd imagine that helps too.

Items on the ground are supposed to degrade with time in the future, so that strategy won't be viable forever. :/

The long guns anyway, there was a mention of bags being viable persistent storage if you interact with them every so many days.

I don't go out of my way to find tents, but if I do find one I'll probably set it up somewhere hidden and leave a bunch of clutter there to free up inventory space. Nobody's found one of mine yet!

It would be nice if smaller tents come out, or things like hootchies. Just a piece of canvas tied between two trees with some camp pattern on it and the vapacity to hold one primary with some extra slots would be nice.

remark!).

The base isn't there yet, but they have "paved" the roads and the building foundations have already been "poured." Still, that's probably enough activity to attract spectators, with nothing better to do (I resemble that remark!).

It depends. I play on persistent servers so my tent doesn't despawn due to server restarts and they hold a lot of gear (63 in camping tents<--blue<-- and I can't remember how much in military tents. I use camping tents a lot for multiple reasons:

A.) To store food and supplies in a secure location.

B.) As a safe place to hide if you need to nip to the loo or get food.

C.) To bait other players if I feel like saying hi to someone new.

It isn't such a good idea to hide guns in a tent because if your tent had items stolen from it, guns would be stolen or hidden are much more valuable and can be used against you. I advise using them to store food, medical supplies and some ammo, plus extra clothing if yours gets ruined. These items can not only be used to support and sustain your own life and adventure in dayz, you can use it to help fresh spawns and those in need if you are feeling kind. Tents are very useful and I love them. It also depends on your play style so think about that when looking for one. They are a portable equivalent to bases in dayz and when base building arrives in dayz I will still use tents. Be carful where you place your tent so it is not easily found and stolen from and they are pretty much pointless on non-persistent servers but hey, it's a tent, it's freakin awesome! To sum up, yes they are worth it. :)

I try to make the most of tents that I come across but I don't go out of my way trying to find one. The times I do I find myself focusing on cooking and hunting; making the most of the lake near the future military camp west of Tisy. Surprising, they last a few days, not much reason for people to be up there.

Love the look of a tent, a fire, cooking etc all set up by the water :3

I managed to get a tent to persist/not be found a few days ago, and it's beginning to change the way I play a bit - giving me more reason to get out and hoard food, purification tabs, medicines, etc. Truck persistence + tent persistence is one of the (potential) upsides of 0.55 for me.

I also just managed to nick someone else's tent and its contents, which I felt a bit bad about, but they'd put it somewhere a little too obvious.

My problem now isn't tents - it's garden plots, which don't seem to persist for me.
