Armored, silent, ninja, stealth zombies + no loot = win?I

Recommended Posts

4 characters this weekend, from Friday till today. All starved to death. Found 3 cans of food, satiated one of them for 1o minutes. It takes about 30 min to starve to death with no food, and thats just jogging around town. No hoes or fertilizer to plant, no loot for fishing hooks, I checked all the usual and unusual places across 7 towns, in land, on my "adventure." Absolutely no useful survivor loot to collect food, and I do know what I am doing. Picking berries and apples is not enough, hunger and thirst go faster than you pick. Not only that, but zombies suddenly turn into ninja-knights who make no sound and can't be dodged. Forget fighting them in melee without taking 5+ hits, its impossible.

I am fine with loot being rare, but there definitely needs to be an overhaul on hunger/thirst mechanics for it to work. Starving in 30 minutes is ridiculous, it should take at the very least 2 1/2 hours to starve, and I would go as far to suggest 3 1/2 or 4. Zombies get more broken with every patch, and I do not understand what the developers are trying to accomplish. If you are trying to make hordes, then why they hell is 1 or 2 zombies able to ruin your day? Quite literally, as you either stop and fight, getting your clothes ruined, or you run a 5k marathon and end up starving to death. I feel like the game is getting further and further away from its original goal. Its supposed to be a "realistic" survival experience, not a die in 30 minutes because of starvation and broken zombies experience. I realize the hunger mechanic will be fixed, but what about zombies? Are they experimenting with zombies? If so, whats the point? The end goal is hordes of zombies, yet instead of hordes they get fewer and fewer while stronger and stronger, turning into ninja juggernauts.

Im not harping on the game, I just want to know, because it has me worried. So many people on these forums are fan boys that want ultra-hard mode 5000, and don't even care about realism. All 9 of my friends who play DayZ have stopped playing because of the zombies and hunger. Every single one. Most of them, like me, have stuck with DayZ since the beginning. I really hope these things are just tests, because if they aren't like most of the fan-boys want them to be, DayZ will be ruined for me and over half the player base.

You don't have to kill every zombie you see, You can stealth around them if you crouch and when that fails you can lock them in houses or run away.
There are definitely hordes around so I'm not sure why you think there are fewer zombies.
Also I only stop to fight zombies if I have a gun, Otherwise I lock them in a house and carry on looting.
If I get trapped then I will melee but I try to avoid using melee against zombies who also use melee.

I don't want the game to be impossible but the game has to be challenging otherwise it shouldn't be considered a survival game.

I have read so many posts from people saying that there is no food anywhere but I haven't starved to death yet, Perhaps I'm doing it wrong.

Dayz is going to be mod capable one day, I imagine that will bring back all the people who left.

The new zombie AI shows up the problems with both the netcode (teleporting zeds) and the current melee system, however (and I hate myself for saying this) the game is in ALPHA and those things will surely be adjusted and improved as time goes on. The fact that they are silent is something I'm sure will be fixed sooner rather than later.

Loot respawn *is* working, the items just aren't spawning where they should, you need to look around more and check smaller buildings such as toilets for loot now, since they seem to be a common respawn point for all the local loot now. Weapons still spawn where they spawned before, just more rarely now and some new spawn locations have been added such as the AK74s spawning at humvee wrecks. I have had no problems finding weapons in 0.55.

If all else fails, get yourself a stone knife, ambush another fresh-spawn or lock some zombies into a building and wait for some poor sod to open the door, once he's dead gut him and enjoy your fleshy feast. You could also take the boring option and pick berries or apples till you're energized.

Ultimately, Chernarus doesn't owe you a living, you need to find a way to survive which is kind of the point of dayZ.

If you spawn in and sprint everywhere you're going to starve/dehydrate faster. Jog or even better walk to and from foraging spots and wells until you get inland and get your statuses in check, save sprinting for when something is chasing you.

Don't forget you start the game on the verge of starvation and dehydration, once in check you can go 2 hours if you move like you're trying to survive long term. Get used to this they're slowing the game down and sprinting endlessly's days are over.

punchin zombies to death still is one of the best ways to kill them, I still use fists over most weapons in the current patch and they only take a matter of consecutive headshots to kill them!

Its called the harden up altar

Down and dead

cheers

I notice the can of food sitting there on the floor to .... Very apt picture indeed, beans for rising to the challenge .55 has set rather than crumbling..

Edit strangely today i discovered i could beat a zombie dead with my fists through a window with no glass in it...

Nothing sad about it, just separating the chaff from the wheat.

Sadly, they will be coming back. And I'm sure a large portion of the Vanilla DayZ SA Community will go onto the mods, because they are 'fun', leaving vanilla DayZ dead. Same thing that happened with the mod. Vanilla mod was perfect, new maps? Perfect! New content? Starts to split the player base, but sure! Next thing you know, there are over 5000 servers and over two thirds of them are empty and there are 15+ different major mods you can play on.

Doing it wrong doing it wrong doing it wrong. Thats all youre gonna hear. If it makes you feel any better i am finding im having the same experience. I am searching small towns, sheds, cars, warehouses, every deer stand and spot i come across on private servers and am only finding duct tape, books, and a syringe. Picking apples and berries have been the only food ive found and even then you have to do that a hell of alot just to get off hungry. I guess people like us simply dont understand the obvious appeal of the apple picking sim...

And for those of you who are getting geared up in two hours without spending all of it picking apples, what servers are you playing on? because switching between 4 chars on private i cant find shit.

But i guess the new way to play is pick apples for 1.5 hours then jog north picking apples along the way and once you get to the very top of the map all the loot is there.

I agree....i bought the game like 1 month ago and i loved it...But the 0.55 update made me just annoied every time i open the game.... i went to the NW airfield and found NOTHING.... lopatino....nothing Vybor nothing elektro nothing cherno nothing kamyshovo nothing..... I dont have big problem with zombies since you are able to sneak around them but....there is no need to do that because there is no loot......Thats the problem the is not realistic anymore New players doesnt have a single chance of surviving neither geared up players cause they will run out of food....i really like this game its my favourite game by far but i dont understand what devs are trying to do when they just delete ALL the loot from the game

If you read the changelog you'll see that there says "Central economy" under New Mechanics, and "items not spawning at proper places" under Known Issues. Which you can summarize means that at the moment loot is broken because of the new unfinished loot distribution system and devs already know about it. So you can expect a fix for it.

Everything you've listed I agree with except for the fact this its impossible.

It's possible I know I've done it.

However.

I will say this again. Fix their speed OR fix their lack of sound OR fix their no clipping.

Give us something here. Plz.

Sadly... we are finally starting to get rid of the COD player base...

People like you always say that, but it is in no way true because all of the people I have played with either don't play CoD or don't like it. Only the squeekers on DayZ are consistent with that remark.

This is the problem with this forum. The people here are in the minority, yet if you have a different opinion it doesn't matter because we aren't "dedicated" like you are. News flash: people bought the game because it is supposed to be realistic survival. Most people complaining have either been here since mod or beginning of SA. I was here since the beginning of Mod, so I'll be damned if I think my opinion matters.

I did not realize that the little fish had a cheer squad

I think you are missing the point it was a snipe at a particular element of this forum

and its "git gud" cancer

Going dredderick tatum on a zombie should not be the most efficient way to dispatch them since it makes how many melee items now redundant

Could be worse could have to reload your axe i suppose

Possible you could consider that next time you are drinking a cup of concrete in the mornings

XoxoxoX

I also find fists are the best method for taking down zombies. I picked up some brass knuckles in .55 for just that reason.

I also decided to start a new 1PP hard core character to test out .55 as a fresh spawn. It was more difficult than .54 but a box of cereal, a well and FORAGING got me through the beginning. I am still only 1 town in from the coast but have gear enough to survive.

Some servers, I belive, seem worse off than others in terms of supplies/gear though but I can't confirm this.
