stray cat 5 Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) Some things I would like to suggest about the apartment buildings. They are very inconvenient places to loot, because: - They are in fps intensive areas- They require a lot of staircases to climb- Many rooms to check- Bad loot density per room The first will hopefully be fixed as the game develops. The next two are trade-offs for looting a large buildingsHowever the last one is a real problem. From my observation, there is almost never more than one item per room. Which means to check 20 loot spots in the building, one has to check 20 rooms. In comparison to that, most regular smaller buildings in the game have 10+ loot spots in the same room, which allows one to check more loot spots in a shorter time. This leaves the apartments with all the negative trade-offs of a large building but with none of the rewards for taking the time to check them. The suggestion would be that each room in an apartment building should have the same loot spot density like a room of a small building. After all, if one tall apartment block with 12 stories covers living space for 12 small houses, then it should offer the same loot density. Because now they are just majestic looking scenery pieces. ASTINvlogs 44 Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) I checked 4 blocks earlier. Found nothing Not nothing like a pair of shoes and a damaged shirt I mean like 100% NOTHING. Its just not worth my time. Before .55 there was at least a thing of fruit. Now nothing at all. The area around was loaded with gear guns and ammo. So I know it wasn't hit. Speaking of which. Had anyone seen a zuckini since update? Edited April 4, 2015 by ASTINvlogs
Mullraugh 1151 Posted April 4, 2015 I was actually going to suggest something like this, and I'm glad you brought it up. I think that apartments should be a looter's wet dream when it comes to items. Because if you think about it, if there's 8 stories, each having 4 "houses", which will be a home for about 1-4 people each, then there's going to be a LOT of things to loot. The old soviet flats should be amazing places for civilian loot. You shouldn't find rifles or melee weapons better than a baseball bat, but there should be a good amount of pistols, especially the Makarov.
Kirby12352 67 Posted April 4, 2015 I don't even bother looting apartment buildings. They're a complete waste of time.

I'm thinking maybe a low chance to spawn either a Sporter, Trumpet, Izh-43, Crossbow or when they add it the Izh-18 single shot rifle.. I almost never loot apartments (despite them previously being one of the few places where Tents regularly spawn)

I almost never loot apartments (despite them previously being one of the few places where Tents regularly spawn) I say pistols because usually apartment landlords won't allow people to own firearms, even hunting ones. Pistols are easy to smuggle in and are a good form of home defence. Melee weapons shouldn't be any better than a baseball bat. It doesn't make sense for a city person living in a flat to own a hatchet or a farming hoe.

Agreed on the melee weapons, I think these would be suitable for spawning in apartment buildings:Baseball BatPipe WrenchCrowbarBrass KnucklesBroomFire ExtinguisherOld Hockey StickLead PipeHammer (NOT Sledgehammer)Hunting KnifeKitchen KnifeSteak KnifeLug WrenchScrew DriverI'm still not quite on-board with apartments spawning pistols but I did think what if they spawned the sawn off versions of some guns? Like the IZH-43 or the Sawn off Mosin?

anarky321 36 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) one thing i want to know is where did all the furniture and items out of the hundreds of apartments go?? the wooden houses are still full of furniture but the apartments are completely barren realistically, this is most likely due to the fact that if they furnished the apartments the FPS would grind to a halt Edited April 6, 2015 by anarky321

8bit_Survivor 93 Posted April 6, 2015 Perhaps the new renderer + optimisation will make this possible in the future. I skip apartment buildings and most times the major cities all together.
ebrim 998 Posted April 6, 2015 Is it not possible to limit the apartment buildings down to just a couple floors of enterable space? I feel like the town hall in Novodmitrovsk is handled well in this fashion.

I feel like the town hall in Novodmitrovsk is handled well in this fashion. I had also thought about having some floors of the apartment damaged in some way, like floors having caved in or something or areas that aren't accessible. Like a fire or something occurred inside or something.
