Questions abour resolution + user interface size

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am running on a QHD+ 3200x1800 display.

1) I was wondering whether I need to change the screen resolution via control panel if my game resolution is set lower than that (otherwise FPS sucks!).

2) Bonus question: Does a higher resolution make people harder to spot? It seems everything is further away.

3) Additionally, I am a little confused about the User Interface size option. What should I set it to? It seems to change as I change resolution but its hard to notice a difference as resolution changes affect everything.

THANKS!

Does a higher resolution increase my FOV? Or is it because my desktop resolution is not set as the same as in-game res?

You should set your in-game res to the same as your desktop. Buut if you have a bad computer, it could make your game laggy. If you want to increase/decrease you field of view, find the "field of view" scroller in the "config" tab on the main menu. And to answer your question, no. a higher res will not increase/decrease your FOV.

My issue is that my desktop res is 3200x1800 which is way too high for my game. I set my game at 1600 or 1900 but I am wondering whether I should make the switch both in-game and through the control panel?

Hi guys,
Just wondering a few things:

1) Does a higher resolution make enemies and things in game smaller? It seems like it affects my FOV.

2) Does in-game resolution need to match the desktop resolution set in the Control Panel? Or does it not matter?

Would appreciate any help, sorry if its stupid.
Thanks,
Tom

1.) Yes it does, because higher resolutions are typically used on larger screens.

2.) Not really, though it's best if you run the game at the same resolution that you normally have your desktop set to.

Your desktop should have a native resolution; mine is 1920x1200, which is the next step up from 1920x1080, which is the standard viewing resolution for 1080p content (hence the matching numbers). I run all my games at this resolution, if possible; if not, I choose the highest resolution possible.

I think there's also an option in the game settings to change your FoV independently.

Have the game output the desired resolution, so that the GPU does not have to do scaling, in addition to rendering.

The standard thing to do is

1 ) set your pc graphics to the standard resolution of your screen "the native resolution". If you do this, then icons, photos, images, videos, on your pc will show up their natural proportions; not stretched or elongated etc..

2 ) for the user interface resolution, set it as it suits you - the standard thing is to set it so that it exactly fills your screen when you are playing in full screen, not in a window. then your DayZ graphics will not be stretched or elongated etc..

but plenty of people choose other resolutions for their pc screen, it depends what suits you.. ( you sure got a big screen there ) start out with standard settings, then experiment.. What kind of card do you have to run that screen? If you play around you can probably find other game resolutions that suit you and fill most of the screen, and are not much distorted

Im playing on 1920 x 1080 ..that is the standard resolution of my screen - in windows 7 this is noted by having "recommended" written after it in the < Control Panel/Display/Adjust Resolution/ > options list of resolutions.

xx

[edit: ok.. I see players have answered this already]

I wish my 14 inch laptop screen wasn't at 3200x1800 because it's very taxing to play DayZ at that resolution. I am forced to set it lower so that I get a good FPS.

I don't notice much blurring etc. so maybe the manufacturers kept that in mind?

For games that I can play in this QHD+ res, they look AMAZING. If only DayZ was better optimized.

It's much better than the mod tho!

I keep the settings at around medium on my 'small' screen, except for distance (number of objects) - I like to be able to see as far as possible

The reason I put medium, is the game is just too good looking for me. it looks great.  If I put the settings to 'high' I start to wander around in this beautiful landscape of leaves and shadows and sky and grass and rippling water and I loose concentration - and I die.

But what better way to go out than enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of nature? :D

I keep the smell setting on Low.. else at 2am the zombie smell wakes up my girlfriend (and it messes up the FPS too)
