Making real friends in Dayz

Recommended Posts

I'm always interested in peoples stories in Dayz, I also wounder how many people have actually made a real friend from randonly meeting them in game. I met a girl outside of Elektro near the petrol station last year and we have talked and played everyday since. Has anyone else been lucky enough to find that one person you click with and is a great gaming buddy? Im interested to see, tell me your stories.

Oddly - there's a few people I ninja chat with on Steam who I know from the forums, but noone else that I know IRL plays, and the few people from the forums who I chat with on occasion I've never actually gotten the pleasure of playing with. At 1100+ hours I'm a lonely lone wolf man... thus is the life of a survivor. I've met a lot of random people who, in the great words of Fight Club, were "single serving friends" who I never managed to meet up with again, and usually we forgot to exchange info before a server restart or one of us was killed so we had no way to reconnect.

I actually have a few people that I became pretty good friends with.  One from California here in the US, one from England, and one from Spain.  We run a TeamSpeak together now and my Spanish buddy and I stream together.  My buddy from Spain and I have a lot of similarities in our likes and personality.  We actually have plans to meet up in England and crash at our English buddy's house some day.  All from a chance meetup in Novo Tower where we didn't kill each other.

I mainly stick with my central group, rarely do I find someone really cool ingame that I wanna run with all the time.

I was a lone wolf for long long time, It was nice to change things up with a 2nd person to roll with who you know well :)

Good good, It's nice to see real friends being made from a completely random encounter in a video game

There are no friends in Dayz. Only meat!
And I don't talk to my food.

Well.. Really I have some bad anxiety issues...
So. I don't put myself in situations where anyone might depend on me.
Or put myself in situations where I might depend on someone else.

It keeps things simple. I get most of my interactions trying to creep people out instead.

I met a good group of guys playing on a Taviana server back in the day. I still talk to them every day and we have helped each other out through the good times and the bad. I never really ran with too many clans in the MMO world, too much drama. Ultima Online is the only other game that I had made friends with a complete stranger and ended up being good friends for a long time. Sometimes you just meet people and you end up enjoying their company

1. Rooting about in the NWAF, the southernmost "prison" to be exact, i suddenly get a message in text, it was simple enough, "come out, and i won't shoot you", my response was as obvious as it was simple. "no, go away", and a small standoff ensued, finally, after realising that the guy outside had a shotgun, and the most dangerous thing i had on me was a lack of water, i resigned to my fate and stepped outside.. we talked a bit, all over text, because none of us had a mic at the time, and we came to a couple of conclusions,

1. neither of us had any food or drink,

2. he didn't know where to get any.
3. I however did.
So he kept me alive through the airfield north, and i led him to that other prison in the forest to get water, then we turned back south to loot for food, during this time he let me arm myself, and we continued playing for the rest of the night.. We continued playing for a couple of weeks, but he grew weary of dayz and is now a regular of my ex-roomies "silly-top-down-action-small-map-team-game"-sessions.

There have been others, but i think that the only ones worth mentioning at this point is the following.

Playing with my girl, on a low pop server we usually played on, there was suddenly an admin message saying "Friendly meet and greet at NWAF, bring food for the BBQ and fire-starting materials", naturally, we just ran for it, and so happened to be the first two people to show up, apart from the admin team. we spent about an hour or two just chatting, as more people showed up, having a real good time, shooting contests, trading, "can-opener fight club" (not supposed to talk about it though), meeting those strange names that you see on the player list over and over, but never in person.
however, as it usually plays out, a group of guys, who had been with us most of the time, decided to shoot up the place. So we all lost our stuff.

But as it turns out, we did make friends, met one of the other guys a good while later, and we mentioned "the incident at NWAF", looted a while together and split up.
And because of our friendly natures, me and the gf tend to team up and play with the admin guys and their friends. And also having them on facebook and planning a meetup IRL this summer.
(hopefully without the carnage at the end of it)

I've met so many people from dayz already. Most are in the USA as I live in Canada. We met up through others and have been playing the game together for awhile. Some of the guys actually met up and had dinner with them. So its pretty cool.

I've met some people from the UK, others in Germany etc..

Random players in the game not directly related I haven't met up with them yet. Someday ill test the waters and try to befriend someone in game without shooting them in the face first :)

Till then heads up!

I try to make friends, but the few people I've seen just shoot me. LOL. In all seriousness, tonight in Cherno, I saw a guy a block away from me. He had an axe, bright backpack and beginner clothing. I turned and yelled, "Hey I'm friendly." He booked it around a corner. I ran down the street saying "Really I'm friendly." Came around the corner and the guy was gone. I figure he jumped in one of the buildings.

I thought to myself, damn why'd he run away? Them it hit me. He looked pretty fresh, while I was in a complete black outfit, save my smersh and backpack, with my ghillie wrapped AKM out. Heck, I'd of run too. Oh well maybe next time.

I met my wife thru a battlefield 1942 clan some time ago lol. (mind you we were both still in highschool at the time.. actually the same highschool and just hadn't realized it till talking about a local news story one night on TS)

as for dayZ I've found a few friends mostly during the mod; sadly only 1 still plays dayZ with any regularity.

I've met loads of people playing Day Z. Most of my friends list on steam is made up of people I met on game or on some Day Z related site or who added me because of the trading outposts. Some of them I talk to every day!

All you lone wolves in the thread, feel free to hit me up if you'd like to meet more people!

I met a crazy Newfoundlander who lives a couple of hours from me through DayZ. He's a psycho, but hilarious; he's just as likely to shoot you in a fire fight and laugh about it as he is the people trying to kill you.

I also met DeatHTaX through DayZ, but he's a huge fruitcake. ;)

You never hit me up man! We just always flirt with each other on Steam & send each other love notes. I like to be wined & dined. Change that.  ;)

On topic: Before I rolled with a group, back in my lone wolf days, & when I had maybe ~200hrs on Standalone (Over 1,000hrs now) I met a good friend of mine at Rify (shipwreck). We chatted for a bit, came to the realization that both of our destinations were NEAF, so we decided to team up. We traveled from Rify to Krasnostav & we got ambushed by a group of 3 there. We sought cover in a piano house & were pinned down in the upper floor. Having not exchanged Steam info before traveling, we weren't on each other's friendslist, & we weren't using a 3rd party comms program. So we were communicating in direct chat the entire time & had to remain quiet so our attackers didn't hear us & we couldn't communicate effectively.

The 3 ambushers stormed the upstairs where we were, killing us both, & separating me from my newly-found friend. I respawned in Solnichny, & eager to find my friend again I ran back up North in hopes to find him again, but to no avail. I called it quits that night.

The next day, I log into the same server, & this time I'm traveling South down the coast as a fresh spawn when I meet another fresh spawn & we begin to chat. Something in his voice sounded familiar, so I ask "Hey man, by any chance were you playing on this server last night & got killed up in Krasnostav with a friend you just met?". He tells me he did & I tell him "Dude, that was me with you! I found you!" lol. His story reflects mine perfectly, & after some quick reminiscing, we exchange Steam info, become friends & talk about the previous day while looting up together again.

We still play together from time to time til this day, & still laugh about how we met.

Leik if u cri evrytim

You guys do know that steam has a function called: recently played with???

It will show all the people who were in the server you was in.

So if you know his ingame name you can usually find him/her there.

Hope this helps for future reconnects after deaths/crashes and whatnot
