Dead over a Box Of Matches...

So after losing a character that was geared to the hilt over something as simple as a Box of Matches, I'm a little confused . I know I have to get the basics before going inland (bandages,food, water, hunting knife etc.) But after looking for hours and finding 1000 Hunting knives to 0 Box of matches I figured it must be a bug maybe Ill give it a shot inland. Nadda,zip,ziltch! A bunch double barrel shotguns and lee enfield rifles . After much zombie rape, and no ammo I hit respawn:(. I hate to say it, but for research I server hopped trying to find matches in several areas (no pvp was involved) just purely looking for my holy grail. Still all that was found was many Hunting knives and no matches. I found more tool boxes and helicopter rotors than matches. I still feel like this is a bug due to how the game has kept most of its realism. Simply put,what is more common to find Hunting knives or Matches(or Helicopter Rotors)? After two days of searching for a Box of matches.. Nothing, I hope this is a bug. If anyone has insight into this I would greatly appreciate it! I have read the forums and patch notes but if I missed something I am sorry. And thank you Dayz team for the Great MOD!

I'll sometimes see 2-3 boxes of matches inside one grocery store.

Sometimes they are in apartments too.

I'm not sure but I've never had a problem finding them as long as my survivor could make it to a market.

If there isn't one there you may have to check again later.

I usually roam around the Berezino area though. That town has two markets and some apartments so I am practically guaranteed boxes of matches.

ive only seen matches once in sooooooo many hours of play. It was in a grocery store.

Thanks for the info I'm going to check the markets more, during my research I did search them but never found anything. I guess I was just used to last patch where they were pretty common.

I've been finding a lot of matches in the grocery stores too, usually several in one store. For some reason watches are really common now too. 4 out of 5 loot piles seem to have a watch.

It sounds like the grocery store is the place to look, I did check them multiple times but I'm guessing it was bad luck on my part.

I saw - no joke - 3 boxes of matches yesterday. I left them sitting there because I already have one. Supermarkets or open homes have them. If you are playing for multiple days without finding one, it's bad luck. Maybe try a slightly less populated server until you come across them? I usually play on a 30 max.

They seem very rare. I feel lucky if I find them.

One day, I actually came across 6 of them; 3 of which were in the same market.

I'd like to see guns made as rare as matches. That would be fun.

I had this problem too; I made it all the way to Devils' Castle before finding a box. Then I realised I was looking in the wrong spot.

They spawn in residential areas like houses, but fairly rarely. I have seen a few in there. Supermarkets have a MUCH higher chance. ALWAYS go to supermarkets. They have a better % to spawn backpacks, and also matches.

If you're getting an error of a missing item when loading it may be matches, I had the problem with hatchets.

My friends could see them, but I could'nt.

Went back, redwnl'd everthing and replaced it.

I often find 4 watches and 2-5 matchboxes in general stores.

Also, you will come to find that you die for no reason other than the fact that you are a potential threat, no matter your gear.

Matches spawning is borked. They should be one of the most common items - IE in every house - but they are as rare, if not rarer, than morphine.

Also, why can't flares be used to light fires?

So far in the latest patch I've found 2 ALICE packs, countless knives and watches, several high powered rifles but only one matchbox. I think they spawnrate is borked.

Compasses seem very rare.

Matches are hit or miss. I might check 10 places they normally spawn and see nothing and then see 2 in one place.

Murphy's law seems to apply to matches. Last time I spawned, I had everything I wanted short of NVGs (ALICE, M16, 1911, compass, tent, etc.) before I found matches. Now that I have them, I see them everywhere.

I think Dayz is coded to torture you. Once you search for days for a particular item and finally find it, you'll then see that item everywhere.

I always grab matches when I see them. I'll have to three boxes in my bag sometimes and then I will drop them in my tent. Just habit now. Same with compasses.

Yeah Matches can be pretty difficult to find. But hey, want an awesome tip? I noticed that you can cook Raw Meat at those lighted barrels around town. You know the ones that can be lit without any matches? I know theres one beside the Clocktower (and one in front of the church) in Cherno.

Seems those serve a purpose besides lighting up the night a bit.
