hekp 223 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) He also said that he simply does not approach people who are heavily geared up. He tries to avoid them, particularly when playing solo. Yeah, same. It's hard to make them believe you don't want to take their last 10hrs of gearing up, unless you're better armed. Then its hard to believe them :) My logic was that if I walked up, clearly not a genuine threat, and announced myself, that they would think, Why waste a bullet? I see now why that was incorrectYeah, i tried that in my early days. They wasted their bullet aswell :P BUT, it also worked a few times. One time i rushed a ghillie guy who was fueling his truck. I parked in his face with a sledge hammer so he knew i was one click away from taking everything hes got.Than i told him "don't worry, im not gonna kill you, im friendly. Please dont shoot me, i just spared you. Is there a chance you could give me a ride to Berezino ?(Funny enough, i died there 20 minutes ago after trying to communicate with a group of two but ended up being killed) I took off the sledgehammer knowing he will be less nervous if i do so. After his animation ended he offered me a ride. Sadly i never caught the bastards. personaly i just wish i would have 100% break legz skill. That's the easiest way :P Dont wory, the morphine is on me. Edited March 15, 2015 by halp
ColdAtrophy 1850 Posted March 15, 2015 ... maybe this read http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/211767-how-to-approach-other-players/?hl=approach is something for you... ;) :) This is an excellent read. Thank you very much. :) It's heartening to see that there are others who feel the same way I do and there are tons of great tips on there. I'm learning that there is a lot more to all of this than what you immediately see on the surface.

That's the easiest way :P Dont wory, the morphine is on me. I love player stories about the adventures people have in this game. This game is like one giant emergent gameplay machine. I think I'm learning what I need to do. This game has done something psychologically to the player that games simply do not do. It evokes a genuine flight or fight response in the player. That is a deep, largely uncontrollable, instinctual reaction that an artificial experience should not be able to easily trigger. You fear death as much you possibly could fear death in a video game. It makes the other players unpredictable and you cannot count on rational decisions being made no matter the circumstances. I used to think that mechanics such as these were punishing and that devs don't do it because it makes the game too difficult or frustrating for the player. That might actually be true in a general sense, but the way that it is implemented here actually enhances the entire experience rather than taking away from it. Thanks for the tips and advice. I think I will arrive at a playstyle and methodology that satisfies my personal goals and values without needlessly walking into the meat grinder. This game is so immersive that I might have to look into running it on VR tech. *Off to Google I go*
pilgrim* 3514 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) I'm new to this game...//... I'm playing this game to experience the mutha-fucking zombie apocalypse! I'm quite sure I'm not the only one who has had conversations about just what we would do if the zombie apocalypse happened. ..//..Maybe this game just isn't my cup of tea, despite all that I enjoy about it. What do you all think? Some good advice in this topic already.. you can see how players have all had to deal with the same stuff... Well, I aint a Prepper .. by a long waybut you know what they say about the Apocalypse- "the one big danger you NEED to be ready for is - other people" I don't know if you live in a city - but do you get a lot of strangers IRL going out of their way to be helpful and friendly in the street? Do you always trust those folk?If right now IRL, on the street you go up to someone and say "I'm Friendly" what kind of reaction do you get? Is it always good?ok - add an apocalypse to that. Also add that many players (but not all) come from a 100% gaming background of shooting/war/weapons games. And sure, fighting games are exciting and dangerous.. but that's not the only way to play DayZ. You don't even have to collect loot or gear-up or carry a gun, you can live with just a raincoat and a wood-axe if you want, - if you learn how - you don't NEED to loot barracks You have food but the other guy does not. He wants to stay alive - he can stay alive twice as long on your food if he gets rid of you. Or maybe he's really just the same as you, he's friendly and honest, but now he doesn't trust anyone .. so he thinks it's not a god idea to turn his back because he doesn't know what YOU will do. Or you make a move he doesn't understand (maybe you are calling your friends to come and help you kill/loot/handcuff him?). Maybe he's got enough problems already. Maybe he's just scared. In fact, DayZ is NOT a shooting/war/weapons game.. it can be many different things.. it depends totally how you play it.. I know for sure there are long-time players out in the woods who hunt and craft, cook their food on a wood-fire.. and they use bushcraft and learned skills to get around any stranger they see coming into their area, check him out before he knows they're there.. they know how to talk from a position of security, they decide for themselves when to take risks.. no way they need company, but they can be helpful or team up if they want to; Usually, they don't hang out in airfields. And, at the other end, I know for a fact you can team up with someone and play together all day, and at the end of the day the dude says "see you around, friend" and shoots you in the head. And then there are people like http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/160262-need-medical-assistance-in-dayz-sa-find-your-medic-here/#entry1610175 So you have to find your OWN way of playing, don't let a bunch of military control freaks, gangsters, or some solo mad sniper in a tower,.. don't let them convince you that their way of playing is what the game is about. Those people have a lot of fun playing their way, and part of their fun to screw up your game - but that's LEGAL PLAY in DayZ.. it's one of the things you have to learn techniques to deal with..If you are a beginner: starvation, zombies, hypothermia, falling, and other players - are ALL major causes of death. So? - it's an apocalypse.. not everyone is nice, some are pretty bloodthirsty, some are indifferent to strangers (you live or die, it don't make a difference to them..might be fun to axe you, might be fun to give you beans, maybe they don't care either way).. some might even EAT you. And some can be VERY helpful and you can make real friends. So the game is about trusting your own judgement and learning from your mistakes. * [which is kinda what "Catch 22" is about too] xx Edited March 15, 2015 by pilgrim

ColdAtrophy 1850 Posted March 16, 2015 I'm learning to stealthily move around the map. I now assume, no matter what, that someone is right on the cusp of dealing me a death blow. I have come across two players in the last day of playing within close proximity to me on highly populated servers. One I avoided completely. A truck came up the road while I was basically in a wide open field. I hid as best I could, switched to my SKS with PKU, and didn't move until about 5 minutes after I could no longer hear the truck, carefully watching and waiting for any sign that I had been spotted. The 2nd guy wasn't so lucky. I've been murdered so many times at a military area that this time, I did not take any chances. The guy made a dash in the direction of my partner and I lit him up. He never saw me at all. Chernarus has changed me irrevocably. Three days ago I was still trying to walk up to people with no weapon equipped and chat about our day. I wound up being shot, stabbed, beaten, trapped, and cheated out of what little I had. Experience is a harsh master.
