Where to next?

Recommended Posts

I, with the help of a good Samaritan and all around badass Ranger, managed to survive my first day and came out in good health with plenty of supplies for staying alive. Unfortunately, the friend I went on an epic journey to save died before I could get to him. Now I'm far to the North and without purpose. The question is, what now?

I'd like to track down some better weapons and perhaps some expanded inventory gear. I have 4 slots on my chest, 6 on my legs, two med kits that I have a good amount of stuff stashed in, and a 28 slot drybag. Can I expect to find any items that would add to my overall carrying capacity? What should I be on the lookout for? Where should I go looking? I'm currently in Krasnostav. I need to make my way to the Elektro area by the end of today, so anything of note to check out between here and there would be good.

I think there's a 32 or 35 slot camping backpack, and something that has 6 slots on your chest... No clue where to get them though. :)

If you follow the main road south you'll hit a few good towns on your way to Elektro. There's also a big factory thingy at Polina, and I think that might spawn the backpack. I always seem to have good luck finding something cool in the construction site places.

Hopefully someone else will have more specifics. Usually I just check everywhere, so I'm not very well versed on what spawns what.

Fair enough. I thank you for your input. Now I have a better idea of what I'm going to lust after as I vainly scrounge through junk! :)

Well, this is one route you could take that's likely safer than anything else. It keeps you inland and has you hit up enough towns (and Rog Castle, maybe you'll find a sword!). By the end of this run you should have more stuff than you can possibly carry, and you'll likely have a hand gun, a mosin with LRS, SKS, ammo, and everything else you could need. Elektro is basically straight south from where you are, so if you find a compass you could actually simply head south, double tap W, and just keep running until you hit the ocean, where you end up will likely be somewhere in Elektro.

^Thank you very much! That is quite helpful. Is Gorka where the Gorka clothing comes from or does that clothing spawn in various places?

I usually take this route, where the end is NWAF, after which point I head to the triangle base and after that Zeleno, and sometimes the hidden base. You'll come out completely geared in army gear after this, and have a lot of weapons, and ammo. I mainly use this route to find police/firefighter gear, though, and you'll have enough cover from the elements to start fires, get water and food, and also look over several heli crash sites.

RIP in Elektro :D . If you're in krasno, hit chernaya polana Truck site dump, search the trucks for some nice 6 slot gorkas, vests and what not equipment. This parking easily exceeds the berezino auto-gear-up parking lots. You can do a quick search of  the town aswell, its usualy quite full on loot. You can hit Severo from Krasno. There should be tons of loot waiting for you. You can go check the kamensk mines for some eye candy, or even hit the military base north from there.

Is Gorka where the Gorka clothing comes from or does that clothing spawn in various places?

I dont know if this connection between the village and and the jacket is anywhere in the lore but Gorka/o-i means Warm so it makes sense the russian mountain winter clothing is called "Gorka".

* Throw away med kits. Waste of space. You dont need them. All you need is bandages and splints if you dont have morphine autoinjector. Just dont eat worms, guts or human flesh and you'll be ok with rags only. Dont store them in pants.

If you are on the 2 lane highway that runs east to west up north, make your way east to svetlo. Once you pass the industrial complex just east of novo take the first road to the left traveling east. Follow that north thru a small town with several jeeps and army trucks. There will be a military jail on the right past a lake on your right as well. Lots if good loot up there

Medkits hold 6 medical items in the space of 4 which is great, but realistically, what medical items do you actually need unless you hardcore PVP in a group?  Rags, that's it.  Don't keep them in your pants in case you suffer fall damage and your pants, and therefore their contents, get ruined.  Thing is, the same sort of applies to all locations, e.g. store them in your jacket but get attacked by a zombie and you risk losing them.  That's why I always keep 2 full stacks of rags (6 each) in different locations - usually a stack in my jacket and a stack in my backpack.  2 slots total - still more efficient than a medical kit.

If you do PVP hardcore in a group then yes a medkit makes sense, otherwise, not so much.

To answer OP's query about inventory space....

I tried to work out the maximum number of slots once and ended up with something in the region of 68 for clothing alone.

Very roughly...

Boonie hat (1) - but fishing hook only so I didn't count this

Combat boots (1) - but combat knife only so I didn't count this

Tan\Black M65 Jacket (8)

Smersh Vest with Backpack (16)

Mountain Backpack (38)

Cargo\Gorka trousers (6)

That's 68 slots...but you can fit small protector cases inside any 2x2 space and turn those 4 slots into 6...and by my calculations you could fit 11 cases into that set up which turns 44 spaces into 66, i.e. 22 more.

68 + 22 = 90 slots...by my admittedly possibly inaccurate calculations.

P.S. In case anyone is interested, according to the UK's leading baked beans manufacturer there is an average of 465 beans per can so if you carried a full load out of 90 cans of beans you would be carrying 90*465 = 41,850 beans!

cause med kit takes up 4 slots.. i dont overkill myself with 4x6rags or more likely 6x6 rags in the medkit..

I'm not a field medic lol :D. I used seline bag twice in 600hr hrs (it was never a must). Epi pen once (he died anyway). And alcohol tintcture (tasted delicious).

Everything but the bandages is pretty much waste of space for me.

If the firestation decides to break my legs (it does.. it always bloody does) with my only rags inside my now ruined pants... QQ

Same. Zombies afaik go for jackets and vest but they are easy to kill. I keep another pair in case i get shot and get a ruined vest/jacket.

I wouldnt do it tho, it should be fixed soon and you might end up loosing things

I do EXACTLY the same thing. I wish I hadn't died with my first character. I had a vest, a medkit, a drybag, and yellow waterproof box. I kept my ammo and matches in the waterproof box, medical supplies in the medkit, food in my backpack, and whatever I might need often in my vest. It was working ok for me and my storage organizing compulsions. Then I died a horrible death after visiting a hospital and finding that it had no supplies. I had lost a lot of blood and had barely survived making it to the hospital. I also accidentally dropped my Repeater while fighting my way into town. My equipped primary was a shotgun (which was nice) but I only had 4 shells left. I had to switch to a cattle prod which turns out didn't work that well on the zombies. Maybe I was missing a bunch. I could barely see straight. That's when 3 zombies glitched into the hospital through the door and one in the floor. I ran outside right into another zombie and by this time I was bleeding again. I fell unconscious before I could patch myself up and found myself laying in the mud, in the rain, never to rise again. I guess losing the first one is the hardest. :(

you dont need to keep your matches in yellow protectors case. You cant soak/ruin them. Dont get attached to your gear, you will lose it.

Only factor you can somewhat influence is how long will you keep it.

I suggest you go and hit a few zombies as a newspawn. Just memmorise the timing of their attack animations and when to dodge it.

After the dodge you can punch them unconcious and repeat.

It's ridicilously easy, all you need is some practice.

If you have a low blood eat untill you get healing status. You usualy get it after you hit bright green hydrated and energized.

Don't forget the fireman's axe too. It's the red/yellow one. It'll kill zombies in one hit. Man I love those things.

Yeah, incomplete data. Shirt, pants and vest.

It should be in your backpack.

My character is 100% healthy on blood and health. I'm keeping well hydrated and fed. I have an axe, a .357 Repeater, a Mosin, and a M1911 with a suppressor and a tac light. I've got ammo for everything. I've got some rarer (I think) medical supplies that should come in handy if I need them and I just found a UK Assault Vest. I've got a Motorcycle Helmet and a white balaclava, some gloves, and combat boots. Gorka pants were given to me along with a canteen and I just found a 2nd canteen. I've got an orange raincoat too so I'm not getting cold or wet at all anymore. However, I would really love it if I could find a darker colored one because I feel like I'm a beacon walking around in neon orange.

I wouldn't say that I've gotten attached to any of the gear that I've come across thus far. Instead, I think I'm more getting attached to the comfort and stability that the gear provides. I will trade out anything I've got in a heartbeat, I just don't love being helpless when I have nothing in the beginning.

This is good - you've gotten a taste of getting well geared and comfortable. What I expect will happen is you'll lose it all in a most unfortunate and unexpected way - be it death on some stairs, a zombie gets the best of you when you're not completely paying attention, or a player snipes you or something. It's bound to happen eventually. As you're looting up and learning what buildings have what and what towns are where, think about if you were to do it all over again how you might go about it if you spawned near there again. When I started, I was super cautious, but eventually I relaxed a bit and tried to interact with people more. That's when things got really interesting... or frustrating depending on the situation. That's when the game truly begins!

You shouldnt have a problem finding another raincoat, and just in case you dont know, gorka jacket is waterproof aswell.

I just finished up my 2nd day with the same character. This game has a somewhat steep learning curve but once you start to learn it is insanely addictive. The friend I bought this game to play with has died at least 5 times since I made this character. I keep going from the far North to the Southern coast and back again trying to get together with him when he spawns. This last time, we tried to meet up at the airfield near Vybor since I was already over that way when he spawned this time. I must have been maybe 300-500 meters away from him when I got a message from him : "i died". Apparently, he alt+tabbed without getting to as safe a place as possible first and a zombie caught him slipping.

While annoying, I'm thinking this has been good experience for me. I'm finding myself recognizing landmarks in areas I keep traveling through and beginning to understand where I am in relation to other things. I've picked up some pretty cool stuff along the way too. This game is far more than I expected it to be, truth be told.

Yes, it's all that, and then some. Eventually, you will probably want to shift from solo more encounter type play. That will be fun too. Then the next question will be how do you handle the glitches. You work for a long time with your character, having a nice collection of gear, and some glitch allows you to slip on a ladder/stairs, or maybe go through a rail that should support you. YOU ARE DEAD! What do you do? The first few times it's sickening, but you get back on your horse anyway. After 10, or 20 times, is it worth it to you? I have died a lot more to glitches than to other players. I took a few months off, and am back again now. The only difference in the game really is the persistence and huge increase in the loot types. The only thing that really excites me is the upcoming renderer upgrades.

Can you elaborate on that? I'm not sure what you mean by this.

Also, you mentioned some rendering upgrades? I'm hoping that this is part of the optimization tweaks rather than making things look prettier. The game looks just fine for what it is. I'd just like to stop having this issue where my frames drop into the 30's in large cities. I'm not complaining btw, I know this is alpha. I just look forward to those kind of tweaks. After playing in a city for awhile, it starts to bother my eyes. It's funny because I've only been playing games on PC for about 2 months or so. I used to play on Xbox 360 where everything was 30FPs (for the most part).

And so, with a bit of regret, I report that my character has died on Day 3. Why, you may ask? Oh, you didn't ask. Too bad. :) I'm telling you anyway.

I was standing on a roof. I looked down and saw a canteen. I opened up my inventory, curious if I had enough space or if it was even worthwhile to pick it up. Then I got a black screen. Weird, I thought. Then the screen said, "You are dead." Sweet. I will never use ladders or stand on a roof again.

Time to start over. I learned a good amount this go around. Hopefully I can make it out of my fresh spawn without being a KoS victim, find food and drink, and find some decent warm clothing before I am shot, stabbed, punched, beaten, starved, dehydrated, or frozen to death. Lol.

randomspawn is one I've often seen write things of the opinion that basically if you're not engaging in PVP the game has limited value. Albeit that's changed a lot as additional features have been added. Just know that there's a segment of the community who have killed hardly anyone and there's some who kill everyone they see (and a LOT who live in between).
