Issues with Item Damage

Recommended Posts

Recently, I chopped down a few people. After chopping them down I found things were mostly ruined on them, even if I hit them only a few times.

For example, one person fell victim to my axe and was hit once in the lower leg and the rest in their torso. Their jeans were ruined and the fully kitted FNX45 inside was, too. Here's the problem with that - My axe hit their ankles, really, nowhere near their pockets, so how did I crush the pistol logically?

Another example, when I finished on a collapsed Donald Trump I accidentally hit his neck instead of his head with my first few swings. It immediately ruined his wool coat and all the food inside... uh oh. Not too good.

Is there anyway a system can be implemented that bases damage on where the items would be realistically carried on a piece of clothing? For example, having hitboxes for pockets / pouches? Or is this too complex / performance heavy?

Discuss.

If you believe the issue to be a bug Report it.

Thanks.

I don't think it's a bug, I think it's a fundamental issue as the hitboxes for clothes and their inventory slots are the entire piece of clothing. There are no individual hitboxes or any way to register where items are located on a player's body.

Even though this is a modified version, unfortunately its still the virtual reality engine (same as Arma)
objects work in the aspect of; if part of it is hit, it registers as damage to the whole object.

Dayz has introduced the actual damage function/aspect for items, however the engine would be to be completely redone to accommodate for damaging parts of a single object such as jeans.

in other words, its apart of the game that has always been (and probably will always) be in the engine, unless the do extensive changes.
