Where to go when I first spawn...?

Recommended Posts

i played DayZ for the first time yesterday. I made sure to jump on crowded servers to increase the likelihood of running into people. Despite this I only met three people. I know it had to do with where I go when I spawn.

Despite watching tons of DayZ videos, I still have no idea where I am when I spawn. For instance, when I spawn on the shore, should I head east or west for supplies and weapons? When I spawn inland, should I run south towards the shore?

I don't mind running into other players even if I get killed. I know that happens in DayZ. One guy gave me food and then shot me. No surprise there.

Anyway, just looking for pointers on what's best when spawning. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you want to run into people stay close to the main road on the coast and just run from town to town. If you want good loot then head inland but don't expect to see too many players even on high pop servers because it is a big map.

Heading inland from the coast, what should I look for for weapons? I picked up guns easily. Finding ammo was the hardest part. Are there hotspots for ammo? Can I find ammo if I go from town to town along the coast? Or is ammo found mostly inland?

It depends on what you want to do.

If all you are interested in is finding people to interact with (even if that is getting killed) you should head to Elektro.

The best way to work out where you are is to find roadsigns at the edges of towns then use izurvive.com to work out exactly where you are.  You can even type in the search of izurvive the best approximation of the Cyrillic letter and it will work out what it should be (e.g. if the sigh has "Г" in it, type R, if it has "И", type N.

After you have died plenty times, you will eventually get used to the spawn points and know almost instantly where you have spawned.

If you want to meet the most people, anywhere from kamyshovo to Elektro and Cherno is your best place to bump into folks just now, but dont be surprised if you still dont find someone around these parts.

If you want to survive for more than 1 hour, you should head inland and start exploring the towns and other places.

I'd say either East or West is fine, if you get south coast, you will end up in elektro or cherno, East is berezino and elektro, can't go wrong either way

Guns are generally found in a few building types (Tiny blue and yellow cabins/Piano Houses/Fire stations etc).  Ammo can be found in lots of building types, but certain ammo wont spawn in certain areas/types of buildings.

Have a look on here http://www.dayzdb.com/mapand use the search option and filter types to narrow down where you are looking for.  Click on the coloured shapes on the map and often it will have a picture or description of the house type

Search every building you find and you will start to learn where to find stuff and which buildings are not so great.

You can find ppl on the coast, in the bigger cities & military installations (see in-game map if you found one or dayzdb.com).. where there is also the biggest chance you'll get shot.. some players just avoid contact as much as they can & head inland.. and even on a 50 pers. server there could be hard to find many ppl. To find where you are.. easiest way is to head to the nearest city/village & check the name on the map.

Most of your encounters will swiftly end with minimal interaction.. there are exceptions ofc, but thats pretty much the "norm" in DayZ.. even if its a friendly encounter.. unless you're on a role play server.

Cheers

Pretend you are a clueless survivor with no knowledge of the area, who've just been washed up on the beach. Go where you think you'll be likely to find food, clothes and shelter. Is that a house up ahead? Check it out maybe, but be careful. The locals seem... aggrevated, somehow.

The game is about the experience of surviving against the odds, of desperate struggle, confusion and despair should be part of it. It is not a competition to get 'the best gear' or to win the beach brawler battle in Cherno.

My advice for a new spawn? ignore the youtubers, ignore the out-of-game maps, guides and lootlists and just play.
Immerse yourself, the DayZ world works best if you pretend it's the only one.

I recommend spawning, running somewhere. and gearing up. then heading inland.

it's that easy.

you survive. don't think. ;)

Thanks, everyone. Yea, I think about weapons mainly to protect me and my loot. But I love the whole survivor/lone wolf aspect of DayZ. It's one of the more "real" visceral games around. And it requires more thinking then a lot of other games. I'm tired of Call of Duty's clusterfrack experience. Mindless is fun for a while, then it gets old.

If you want to play the reclusive hermit, first stock up on basic supplies, such as a splitting axe and rope, and then head north into the woods. If you're into player interaction, run along the coast. Or you could just run in any random direction. While it can get tedious, it's fun to sometimes just run through the wilderness completely lost.

If you're planning on staying near the coast, I've found Berezino to have quite a few friendly people. This varies from server to server, though.

Thanks, Kirby. It's the one thing I found cool about DayZ is that you can play it in so many ways. Although I was rather surprised when I was struck by a zed from behind moments after one of my spawns. But, hey, that makes it exciting, too. Gotta be on your toes. Hehe.
