RV1 RDS Dilemma: Can withstand 2 tons of weight, but collapses down from one bullet!

Recommended Posts

Let's play devils advocate here....

Bullet damage is quite different than say a chopper crash.

While both are devastating, a piece of gear can be held or positioned during a crash so that it sustains little/no damage.

Now put that same piece of gear in a jacket pocket and fire a medium caliber round at it at close range and you'll find quite a bit more damage (especially to optics).

2 tons of crush force is not = to 2 tons of ballistic force, no?

Now I would like to see that thing that can withstand 2 tons in your pocket maybe absorbing some of the player damage when it is damaged itself.

I did a 350lb net drop test from 50 feet yesterday, the engineers who came up with the test claim the impact of the 350lb test weight is over 10,000 ft/lb on impact. Any bullet even a .22 on impact is also well in excess of 2 tons/sq. in. which is a "point load". You can run an AK over with a truck but if you point load the stamped receiver you're gonna bend and bind something, same goes for a scope tube.

Applying force over a large area is not the same as applying the same force over a smaller area. Pat urself on ur back with ur hand...stick urself with the same amount of force with a needle, one of them will hurt.

Fine fine, I understood a bullet is powerful than 2tons, but what about an axe to my shirt?

Considering I can split knotty wood our 3 Ton hydraulic log spitter won't with a 10 lb splitting maul by hand I'd say an axe is up there.
