Draco122 412 Posted February 5, 2015 Okay so I would've thought this would be a fairly simple suggestion is to allow some weapons to be placed "Vertically" in the inventory rather than horizontally like we have now. Some weapons currently in DayZ could be used so much more if there were able to put inside a backpack, thing is, some of them are. For example the Sporter 22 is 18 slots, 6 across and 3 down. It would be cool if you could place the Sporter vertically in a backpack instead of horizontally as their exist no backpacks with 6 slots across. You wouldn't be able to do it with all weapons but some weapons which seem feasibly. Others such as the Crossbow for example or the pistol gripped MP-133, although this would be most beneficial towards the Sporter 22 and the Crossbow who have very "niche" uses and would make them that much more useful, especially when hunting animals or shooting zombies. -Gews- 7443 Posted February 5, 2015 (edited) If you can fit the Sporter or Crossbow into a pack, then you can also fit an AK, M4, Repeater, MP133, Blaze... etc etc. All or nothing. Not only is the crossbow longer than the M4A1, it's also wider than the length of the M4A1. As for weight, they are about the same. There is, however, this: Edited February 5, 2015 by Gews
ToySmokes 116 Posted February 5, 2015 Well this is a feature that should go for all objects. It just means a more complex inventory system, which DayZ needs in my opinion. So while your right. There has to be a limit so you can't for example put a Mosin inside a taloon backpack since it wouldn't fit. Which you can see by the obvious size difference. Short said. Agreed :P
B4GEL 175 Posted February 6, 2015 There is, however, this: Seeing the disassembled FN Trombone made me wonder, are any other of the guns already in the game comparably easy to break down to a similar size? If you can break down the Trombone should you also be able to do the same to the M4 for example? I assume the feature was added more for balance than realism and we are unlikely to see many more guns be takedown-able even if they would be in real life. I don't know much about guns but it could be an unwelcome breach of 'authenticity' for some people.

mithrawndo 166 Posted February 8, 2015 i also wonder why the pistole grip shotgun does not fit in backpacks but a aksu does It requires a 5 wide backpack - taloon, mountain, hunting or boarskin but it does fit. The inventory system just now is, I hope, a placeholder. As it stands, DayZ's gameplay can best be described as a "Loot 'em Up Shoot 'em Up". A lot of care and attention has been given to the gun play (this being an Arma derivitive), but the inventory system has barely changed since the mod and it's one of the single most important parts of this kind of environment. In my mind not only should you be able to carry extra stuff in this way inside your pack, but you should be able to carry as much as you are physically capable of - slinging ropes together to create a deafeningly load assortment of random crap strung around every appendage, leaving you unable to move at much more than a crawl and incredibly vulnerable. Chaingunfighter 917 Posted February 8, 2015 If they plan to expand this, then the M4 should definitely be allowed to break down. I can't really see it happening the same way because it's an already complete model and configuring it to work alongside the large number of attachments may be difficult, but it'd be worthwhile in the end (and it's not like it'd be unbalanced - the M4A1 is a helicopter crashsite spawn, after all.) Either that or they should add a short-barreled 10.5/11.5' AR (MK18, Colt M933, M733, or hell even an XM177E1) that can fit in backpacks (and would be better in close quarters) to compensate.
