Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted January 10, 2015 I share these very same concerns man. The DayZ that we're playing today will not be the DayZ that we're playing January 1st, 2016. I hope that we do lose that specific chunk of the playerbase. It'll only draw this community into good light. You need good light at night without the gamma tweak! LOL... irl-calibre 744 Posted January 11, 2015 Bring back the night! it's totally shit now, yes we're all waiting for the new renderer, but as it is now is rubbish..
Mookie (original) 799 Posted January 13, 2015 A very high proportion of UK-based official servers are only running night time for the obvious reason that when they all kicked on after the DDOS attack immediately after 0.52, they did so at about 9 or 10pm local time, and pulled in that local time. They mainly run two or four hour restart timers, so...perma-night. It was quite new and refreshing at first. Now it's a bit old.
Khadaji 12 Posted January 13, 2015 I mostly play on night servers. The way night is now, it is actually playable, IMO. Dark enough to make it hard to make things out and see very far, but at the same time you don't find yourself looking at a unplayable dark screen unless you have some form of artificial in game light. And no, I don't currently feel I have to use the "gamma exploit" to see.
zeotrope 76 Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) The moon, fires and flashlights should be the only things that allow us to see anything discernible at night.Server hosts want to see full servers. They want their servers to be the popular ones which are always full etc.But therein lies the problem. The majority of the player base of DayZ don't care for night time servers. Do not care for 1st person only and do not care for the general complexity of anything out of the normal "jump on and KOS a bunch of noobs" type of gameplay.Night time servers will always be the lower population one. That's kind of sad. I fully share the same early experiences that the op has stated above. Those early days of the black unknown. The sound of footsteps and the anxiety of the unknown. I'd like that experience again. But can't see it being mainstream due to what the majority want. I really do hope that when this new light renderer comes along that even in the daytime that pokey little corners of dwellings require the use of flashlights etc. I'd love to see the human eye's shortcomings simulated correctly when it comes from leaving a bright outdoor setting to entering a dimly lit interior with dark and spooky corners etc. DayZ used to have a real atmosphere. Not sure it still does.PS: How about some shooting stars ?! Edited January 14, 2015 by Zeotrope
Arm Of Kannon 9 Posted January 15, 2015 I fully share the same early experiences that the op has stated above. Those early days of the black unknown. The sound of footsteps and the anxiety of the unknown. I'd like that experience again. But can't see it being mainstream due to what the majority want. I don't know 2 out of 3 servers are usually night time for me. Not sure if it's when I play, or if that even factors. Anyway to your point, I log into this server and it's night time. Poke my head out to survey my surroundings and then decide I can move freely about. Go into a nearby house to loot a snack. I'm eating an orange when all of a sudden I'm hearing this massive racket. It's literally in both of my headphones. I think that maybe a squad has spotted me entering this house and are now sprinting circles around it. I check the windows and see nothing. Panicked I post up in a door frame between the hallway and the porch and start peeking the door. The sound is now all around me and getting and louder. Then the hair stands on the back of my neck, because out of the wall of the hallway a shape is forming to go with the noise. A fucking cow runs straight through the wall, the hallway, and the porch like it wasn't even there. Hands down the scariest thing that's happened to me in SA so far.
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted January 15, 2015 I hope not, I personally love night time, especially in the mod. All we can do is seed the servers that do and try to get a small group of night time goers banded together.
danfinger (DayZ) 14 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) ...human eyes are designed for the daytime. oh really? Edited January 15, 2015 by danfinger
mercules 1290 Posted January 16, 2015 It isn't really harder though since everyone has limited disability. Yeah, it actually IS harder. See you make the assumption that the only thing that could go wrong in this game is that you might run into another player. You don't take into consideration that in the dark 5 magnum bullets that you could load into the gun you found are incredible hard to see off in that corner over there, that black rope you could make a backpack out of so you could more easily carry the magnum instead of holding it in your hands or throwing out other things in your pants/shirt, is dark and hard to see. You also don't see zombies from as far away or players for that matter and so a guy with a Mosin and LRS/PUScope is going to have a much harder time dealing with someone with a shotgun as many encounters will literally end up CQC. Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted January 16, 2015 The challenge of night time is just simply too much for a good deal of the playerbase. Best case scenario is that the devs enforce day/night cycles. I don't care, day only shouldn't be a thing.
Munson_fry (DayZ) 312 Posted January 16, 2015 I love the night time. Being on a Server with 3 or 4 other guy looting military Installation s allways insecure of i should turn on my FlashLight or Not. ....gives me the creeps
krazypenguin 174 Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) I joined a private server today where my character was camped at the NEAF. The first thing I noticed was that it was darker than usual - I never look at the time when I join a server and it's almost always daytime when I play on any server. But this was the end of nighttime The sky was full of stars and looked amazing. I looked at the player list, saw that there were only 2 other people on and figured the chance of either of them being in the NEAF (or Dumpsville, Chernarus as I like to call it) was slim enough for it to be worth the risk. I stood up, jogged out onto the runway, sat down and looked at the sky as the sun came up.It was spectacular. Possibly the best 20 odd minutes I've had in DayZ.Edit - it got me thinking that I would like to try a orivate night server so if anyone knows of a good one I'd be grateful if you could post or PM me the details. Thanks. Edited January 17, 2015 by krazypenguin
