Barrels

Recommended Posts

I had seen a suggestion of improvised water pumps that a player stuck in the ground to get water. Then I thought what about a type of barrel or keg?

Finding it:

Search sheds, construction sites, industrial locations, etc. And you will have a very rare chance of finding a barrel or hardened plastic keg. What you would do is either take up a large amount of your inventory by placing it inside of your backpack, or hold it in your hands.

How you would use it:

To use it you would have to take it to a water source (by hand or by backpack) and start to "fill keg". Once the keg takes a total of 10 or so seconds to fill, you will have a water source that you will be able to fill up water bottles and canteens up from once you set it back down. This would be great for large groups, or even two friends who set up a camp in the woods.

How long it will last:

The full keg will be able to fill a total of 100 canteens and water bottles. In the vicinity you will be able to see the percentage left by the 5s, for example use it a few times from when its full, "95%" will replace the "100%", and so on.

I can't tell you how many times I have been with a group of friends and we are in the forest, or resting in a house in the woods or a field, and we all have ran out of water and we have to run through fields to get to a water source, then we drink up, then we end up getting in a firefight and damaging some of our gear, then wandering to a different location. When if kegs/barrels were added, we would probably have still been sitting in that house, with our hydration bar greener than a mans skin tone after seeing 2 girls 1 cup.

Edited/Added Ideas:

Refill: To refill it you could either take it to another waters source like a well or a pond/creek. But I think if the developers are feeling good they could add in the animation to be longer at wells. And maybe when water sickness comes in, if you got it from a well it would take a good 20-30 seconds to fill it up but the water would be purified, where as if you fill it up with a pong or creek the water had to be purified (purification pills). And if you have a camp already set up and your barrels are running low, you could take off the top and let the rain water slowly but surely fill up the keg.

Transportation Extra: You could pick up a filled or empty keg and put it in the back of a V3S.You could then drive long distances with a water source in your truck. I believe that after barricading and other items and features are added into the game; the V3S will have the potential to be filled up completely in the back with tools and resources.

It would be a green/darker color from the one shown above.

Thoughts?

Very good idea. Beans.  :beans:  :beans:

I find these everywhere at my village and they store all kinds of things inside, after gathering the grapes for wine. So finding these in rural environments like Chernarus seems logical.

ok find this barrel in real life , fill it with water and then squeeze it in your backpack and go somewhere , then try holding it with your hands and go somewhere (10-15km) if you do that then i think devs can implement

Also it would be good with stamina system that would restrict you to walk with it few meters and then rest , or you could put it on v3s and drive with it on your base so it can be possible for short range yet it would probably need new animation

Wouldn't it be cool,if we made these containers persistent and set them up near our camp to collect rainwater?

So the barrel would self-replenish until the next time we relog and find drinkable fresh water. :)

Unless someone poisons it and we all die of bloody dysentery :P

Yes this would be a very nice feature when we can barricade and so on. But they shouldn't fit in backpacks. I think you should have to carry it, with a carry-animation where it looks like you're carrying something heavy. You would walk pretty slow. But if there's two of you. You can carry it faster because you can help eachother and carry it at the same time. Alot of carry in the same comment here :D

Nobody in theyre right mind would try to lift it, when its full of water.....

BUT we should be able to load it into the V3S, for sure.

You are right, it should not fit in a backpack at all.

But a quick google search reveals a 55 gallon (208 liters) plastic barrel weighs in at 22 lbs (about 10kg), so in all honesty you should be able to wrap a rope around it and carry it, without much problems. The weight isnt the issue, its the size of the barrel really, making it very un-handy to carry around. Hence the rope to tie around it, and then throw it over your shoulder. Perhaps only possible without a backpack, or something like that.

Now imagine if they put in a smaller plastic barrel, like a 15 gallon (56 liters), which weighs in at 8.5 lbs (almost 4kg). Thats not a problem to carry around at all.

Yeah that would work too. Rope or guts ;) And as you said balance it with so you can't carry a backpack at the same time
