headgear in first person

Recommended Posts

I think what we wear on our heads should show up in first person as appropriate. For example:

-wearing sunglasses should add a tint and eliminate sun glare

-wearing something like a baseball cap should show the brim of the hat at the top of the screen. This way the players eyes can be shaded from the sun when looking straight ahead or down.

-to add onto this, I think it would look good if the items displayed had a slight "lag" to them when you turn your head to simulate your eye motion. For example, if you look up when wearing a hat, you'll see the brim dip down slightly before moving back into place. It doesn't really serve a practical function, but it would make first person views more immersive.

I agree, this would be a great addition.

I do worry that this won't get much developer attention though, as it seems most people play 3rd person.

That's true but it would really help whenever you do go first person aiming down your sights. I personally love third person but I see the value in making first person more immersive

I can say I too have had some wonder about these ideas.. all i can say is i hope so. Around the time when gas masks serve an actual purpose I'm going to guess we might start to see this kind of action around then. LETS PRAY TOGETHER

I know a few mods that do this for Arma but I always end up turning them off. Sunglasses either add a tont in 1st person or both 1st and 3rd person. It's jarring going from 3rd person to 1st person and getting that tint, and kind of annoying having everything darkened all the time (or turned yellow or something, depending on the sunglasses' lenses.)

I never liked it. At least we should be able to turn it off.

I think the point of it would be lost if you could turn it off.

The feature would put drawbacks on some items, like gasmasks and helmets, this would force players to figure out whether the benefits are worth it. Headgear would have situational value, instead of being 'vanity items'.

Glasses tint, perhaps. But playing Verdun I'm fine with the gasmask overlay because it's not making everything look piss-yellow. That's my main problem.

Honestly, who shoots in 3rd person? 3rd is only spray and pray.

And i would like this very much. Would be cool to have a basecap in the backpack to cut out the sun while aiming. While motorhelmlets would have its use in cities due its knockout protection.

Sunglasses could tint in 3rd person. It kinda has the same effect. Although IMO 3rd person should be band out right.
