kumando 199 Posted December 25, 2014 I mean when will we become more dependent of hunting, fishing and horticulture to survive opposed to surviving by founding tons and tons of cans in every house like we have now? Im not ranting i just think the game would become more fun that way.
poster 23 Posted December 25, 2014 It's shifting that way more and more every update. It's a slow process. They have to introduce the new hunting concepts and whatnot slowly to work out any kinks, then work on the hunger/food ratio while they're at it. It'll start to sort itself out later in the year after the next few updates. Once agriculture and hunting has been straightened out they'll start taking out the vast majority of canned foods found in every corner of every house. chompster 171 Posted December 25, 2014 Once they make more animals spawn and less canned food spawn.
SaveMeJebus 164 Posted December 26, 2014 I kinda thought they were about there after making all the craftable from nature stuff. Sandbox games are what you make of them my friend, imo its not a bad survival game right now if you play it that way.
anarky321 36 Posted December 26, 2014 is scavenging less of a survival tactic than horticulture?
CJ_14 105 Posted December 26, 2014 When it hits the beta, although you can go into the woods and survive alone actually. But eventually gets boring (I've tried...tent, farm, game, traps). My hope is that they add so many improved zombies (like, dumb slow ones, but though as hell) in huge ammounts, where you actually need to be stealthy or tanky...that'd make them a real threat and then encourages the wild survival aspect
LORDPrometheus 21 Posted December 26, 2014 right now i think the devs are looking to expand the foundation (and customer base) before adding more specific features
Deathlove 2286 Posted December 26, 2014 Scavenging should still be a very vital part of the game even for food. I don't think crops should be the only viable outlet as well as hunting and fishing. However yes canned foods need to get lowered a bit and the health % and effects need to last longer if they do become rarer than the natural food resources. I would like to have choices not be forced as to so much of what i can and cant do to live in game. I think even raising crops need to be harsher. Including weather conditions effecting crops, bugs, drought etc. Meat SHOULD have a time period before it goes bad. Ppl in real life normally cant lug around raw meat without something cold to keep it viable and fresh. If we do get this realism put in salting the meat and keeping it stored in safe places would be the next thing id like to see to add to the realism especially if we cannot store things in some kind of working fridge. Hunting in general will probably be allot harder once predators get put in like wolves and stuff to scare your food sources away or eat them. We do occasionally see infected chasing deer and stuff but i think it will be allot harder to get that meat once the numbers of infected get upped and it becomes harder for those animals to escape and to even get the meat from them. Fishing i have no comments on yet. Really haven't dabbled in it very much.
StayAlive (DayZ) 169 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) Personally i'd like to keep it balanced. Some peple like to fish, others liketo skin people alive and eat them while dancing around their loot. To muchcatering towards gathering/creating stuff and people might just start playingminecraft or world of warcraft instead. To little and the game will start to looklike call of duty or similar brainless fps games. Edited December 26, 2014 by StayAlive
blunce 991 Posted December 26, 2014 The short answer: beta.
Karmaterror 982 Posted December 26, 2014 I agree with whover said its moving that way with each patch. There wont be a day when you go to sleep, wake up and boom, dayz is a survival over guns game. I think it will be a gradual transition as new features are added, and balancing starts :)

There are still many gun varieties i want put in game including grenade & rocket launchers, trip mines, and sniper weapons. Now by no means do i think they should be everywhere like candy but what former super power countries have so little in terms of firepower in there military that they cant afford decent upgrades in guns? lol Maybe someplace in Africa? Idk What i mean by this is balancing it out to much will seem super unrealistic to in some areas. Even balancing something out as simple and common as a chainsaw will seem silly as hell. I got no probs with something like an RPG7 being in the game as long as its spawn chance is like it was on the mod. I only ever found 1....in months and months of play. Then one day I found 2 rockets to go with it, was so chffed. But weapons like that need big drawbacks. Like in the mod...take the RPG...no backpack...and a rocket takes 6 inv slots, so it put you at a massive disadvantage storage and survival wise. It was only really practical to have proper defined roles within the group to make it work :) Something to think about is when the everything fell apart and the soldiers abandoned there posts, they wouldn't have taken 10 guns each....they would have taken one or 2 and all the ammo and mags they could carry. Soi feel like the devs are going the right way keeping mags scares but guns abundant. All id like to see is ammo go down a lot. Also other survivors would have picked through the mill locations. The other thing is that maybe gun spawns aren't too bad atm....the real problem is tere is nothing guarding it. When zombies increase in number and lootng a barracks can lead to being trapped by 10-20 zeds, then getting a working gun becomes an achievement, not just the chore it is atm:)

Karmaterror 982 Posted December 26, 2014 Zombie improvements and stealth this first quarter! Lets hope for the best! Yep, c'mon devs you can do it....500 zombies on NWA alone!.... Lets see how many fully geared rambos we have running round then :D
BrainlessZombie 190 Posted December 26, 2014 We should be fine when we get a proper loot respawn system and all servers persistance works properly, since that's the idea right? And characters are server bound... Right As many have pointed out already, during next year and the beta will be plenty of changes on all fronts.
StayAlive (DayZ) 169 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) I already play World Of Warcraft and Minecraft and there is NOTHING wrong with those games lol. Well, i could make a whole page of what went wrong with WoW since after BC, butmy point was that if Dayz would cater more and more towards that playstyle, what wouldbe the point in playing it? I'd rather go play Minecraft, Starbound or other gamesinstead. Thankfully, it won't. Edited December 26, 2014 by StayAlive

Thankfully, it won't.Well thats not to say the playstyle is bad for everyone its all opinionated to an extent and games are normally what you make of them. Off Topic: Well WOW definitely has its moments but you'v missed out on ALLOT of good things though about the games evolution as well. Transmog is one of the coolest things they have done to the game. Heres what my character is sporting with transmogged gear. Its all updated stuff but sports that nice old school BC look.http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/stormreaver/Arandius/simple
JayBiggs 16 Posted December 26, 2014 I would say the survival elements will come into their own if/when towns are crawling with a decent amount of zombies and they are more of a threat. Going into town for loot will likely be a real procedure(stealth) and wilderness survival will be more attractive I think.I don't know how I will like the zombies if they are closer to the mod's zombies though...they really got on my nerves in the mod.
