Becoming waterproof?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to become 100% waterproof (not diving but rain and walking in shallow water)?

What equipment would you have to wear? Wellies, raincoat, drybag, ... ?

Are there any disadvantages (heat, cold)?

Iv found that pants don't seem to matter....if I have a raincoat on I never seem to get wet at all. Don't think iv tried running through shallow  water yet but once I get either gorka or raincoat jacket wet status never shows up :)

Nothing is 100% waterproof. NOTHING.

If you seal yourself up so that your clothing is impermeable to "outside" water, you will soon become soaked with "inside" water, ie. your sweat. And, I would rather be wet with rain than with sweat. You don't become dehydrated due to rain.

munchkins ahoy!

True but I think hes after how to do it in the game, not how it works IRL.

I hope that at some point we can get the damp status on our cloths, even if its bright sunshine, as a tell that you are overheating :)

As it works in real life, as it should work in Day Z.

Sweating due to being too heavily clothed, as well as wearing impermeable clothing (rainjackets, etc), is caused by overheating, but that isn't the problem. You are actually far more likely to develop hypothermia due to it, rather than due to rain or cold.

Has anyone lost their backpack in the water yet?

I did it the other day when I had a Taloon on. It was damaged but not badly. I had a sawn off shotgun inside it along with some tins of food and a machete. I swam across to an island to see if there was any loot. On my way back as I got out the water I went to my inventory to find my backpack gone. I swam back and there it was on the sea floor (not deep) so I grabbed it and put it back on. Next thing I notice the shotgun had fallen out. I spent about 5 minutes replacing the content in the backpack as it kept falling out.
