hrdrok 183 Posted December 9, 2014 Just stopping in to state that I have been enjoying the gameplay lately. With the addition of the v3s and items (such as duct tape) becoming more useful for survival, it is all coming together. I was one who has in the past complained about development speed, but the underlying tech that is starting to seep out (lockpicking, doors sounds, horticulture, and vehicles) is really helping me enjoy the game. Personally the biggest improvements that are coming up are: Real Persistence: i.e. Tents that don't despawn on wednesdays. Barricading: i.e. Boarding up stuff, securing fences around structures Increased Farming And of course true base building. It's an exciting time for DayZ and while the next month will undoubtedly be slow (holidays) I am looking forward to 2015. Oh and the upcoming rendering changes...
Ubernaut 297 Posted December 9, 2014 Yes! I think you're right about this. Things definitely seem to be coming together.
ruax 32 Posted December 9, 2014 Indeed I can't wait for the next hat! Haha I am just kidding.
pillock 850 Posted December 9, 2014 Fully functioning, long-term persistence will make a big difference. Probably the biggest single difference of any one game feature. I also like that walkie talkies work again - it makes for some interesting dynamics, if they become more widely used.
PongoZ 127 Posted December 9, 2014 Ya its coming along for sure. Right now its the zombies that seem the weakest. Strange movements and observation abilities.they get way to many free warp hits. I like the repair boots stuff, and the healing system.

Karmaterror 982 Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) It seems its become fashionable to hate on dayz these dayz. Its refreshing to see someone who is willing to keep an open mind and recognise progress :) Edited December 10, 2014 by Karmaterror
Destructo_Brat 45 Posted December 10, 2014 Apart from the cannibalism im loving the direction its going and the upgrades are soo enhancing gameplay. CANNOT wait for barricading and base building :-D

hrdrok 183 Posted December 10, 2014 Meanwhile, back at the ranch... zombies/ "infected" are STILL annoying and broken :P Honestly I have given up hope on zombies ever becoming what we want them to be. We will probably never get hordes, ai will always suck, and they will never really pose a threat.
CANUCKinNZ 108 Posted December 10, 2014 Another thing I have noticed, not many if any random server wide sounds of a can opening or zombie sounds right behind you and there isn't any near you. Doors seem to be easier to open and close too. Still hard to find out where the actual access to some are but much better than before.
blacklabel79 949 Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) And of course true base building. i doubt you gonna see "basebuilding" ala epoch. I think it was even stated that "basebuilding" wont entail that you can errect ridicilous Towers and somesuch... BadAsh (DayZ) 1513 Posted December 10, 2014 Meanwhile, back at the ranch... zombies/ "infected" are STILL annoying and broken :P Along with the new renderer zombie AI is actually one of the things I am most excited about as upcoming feature in Q1 2015 (as shown on the roadmap).
cheranuscrusiser 21 Posted December 10, 2014 I definitely see some interesting things on the road map coming up and am looking forward to trying it. But I don't agree that game has actually made strides yet. The zombies have not been improved for over 3 months and still can go through walls and doors and are ridiculously small in number. The random sound glitches still being in the game is just unbelievable to me that it has been impossible to fix yet. Please tell me how it's possible that it's been impossible to fix that yet. I would give 1,000 trucks in the game for one working silencer so I can play the game that is more on par with the Dayz concept. How can the Dayz Staff say that they really want to avoid having a Call of Duty or Battle Field game by being very careful about the kind of guns and items they put in the game..... but then they add working trucks in the game that will encourage PVP free-for-all crazy scenes? If they just fixed the freaking silencers and put them back in the game many players would go back to playing the game more of a style that fits with their preferred gameplay.
ChainReactor 922 Posted December 10, 2014 The zombies have not been improved for over 3 months and still can go through walls and doors and are ridiculously small in number Latest Status report "This week we have pushed the current work on new Infected/Animals AI into internal testing. The core AI system was developed by the Bratislava team and is also using the new animation system, which will help us to have better navigation for AI units and more complex combat systems. For the initial implementation, there is not many new things about the infected, but it should improve better server performance and navigation. It will also allow us to have more infected on the map and to implement stealth mechanics into the game. The random sound glitches still being in the game is just unbelievable to me that it has been impossible to fix yet. Actually they did not want to fix this issues at all since a new sound engine is in the works, but they seem to changed their mind since the sound engine is not a thing of the near future. gunshot sounds will be fixed and with that there is something extra :) silencers working ;). Global sounds is kinda fixed but there are few nudges to work out. Eugen on reddit.

How is adding a silencer going to help with KoS, its going to be a tool for it not against. The zombies are nowhere near as bad now, they obey most walls and doors, haven't seen one run through a wall in weeks. Regularly lock doors to stop them following me or just trap them in a house and run. Sounds...not that its impossible.....just now is the time to add not fix. Fixes come closer to full release when everything that needs fixing is in. They could fix the sound bug now....then basebilding could break the fix. Why not wait till its all in and fix it then. Trucks actually helps against PvP...those guys that used to log in and go strait for a costal city now have another objective...something else to do....even if it takes them just an hour to get it that's an hour less of them sniping bambies on the coast. Then when they do head down there to go yolo, they are announcing themselves from miles away with the engine noise, that gives the babie the chance to hide, or prepare to shoot if armed. Eugen on reddit. What? What you just posted about the AI is not a big improvement at all. It even says "nothing really new about the infected". Which means..... "Don't bitch if the zombies still go through wall and doors, there is nothing to see here.... move along...". You are not really expecting zombies to be fixed until Summer or Winter of next year, right? This is my estimate based on current progress.
cheranuscrusiser 21 Posted December 10, 2014 How is adding a silencer going to help with KoS, its going to be a tool for it not against. Because if players had silencers, they could play stealth mode and sneak around dropping zombies and surviving as a lone wolf without 20 KOS Call of Duty kids hearing their location. Whereas by adding vehicles into the game instead of fixing silencers, we have free for all crazy deathmatches for getting to the vehicles and then the vehicles are giant targets that draw in KOS players and just take mindless shots at the vehicles all day. I'm surprised I'm the only one that thinks this way.

You are not really expecting zombies to be fixed until Summer or Winter of next year, right? This is my estimate based on current progress. We will see. The good news is that the new systems seem to be ready for internal testing. Many of the "day one bugs" have not seen a fix so far because bugfixing the old systems would be a waste of time ( you don't fix what you are about to replace anyway ). I'm specifically excited about their mention of the new animation system coming along with the AI, since the infamous wall clipping seems to be caused by animations glitching through the walls. So no, i can't give any estimations, but I think we can expect progress once the systems are in the game because these are the actual systems the devs want to use for it's further development. At least the vehicles distract them for a while so they aren't just KoSing. That's what its all about we need festures....things to do besides shootng....vehicles is a big step forward for that IMO.
