XibaRootS 40 Posted November 20, 2014 Why does when i try to change my weapon of fire to the melee weapon sometimes it take's forever to? Yesterday my mate was bleeding to death after a gunfight and i tried to put bandages on my hands to heal him up but it took like 20 seconds to do so, and by the time i did it said that "he moved in the process and the bandages fall out", but he was fking unconscious then after that when i finally managed to put them into my hands again he died. And that is a problem that we all know about since the release and i have never seen anything anywere speaking about that. IF someone could possibly answer me or send me some information about that i would be very grateful.Thx in advance.

Make sure your hands are empty, you can do so by pressing the red X, then you can drag bandages or whatever it is you need to use into your hands.

Make sure your hands are empty, you can do so by pressing the red X, then you can drag bandages or whatever it is you need to use into your hands. That makes a lot of sense, because it happens mostly when im using the hotbar. And indeed yesterday i was with the bandages in the hotbar too, it would be so much easier to do that stuff without having to open the inventory screen just to avoid that "glitch" or whatever it is the problem, and more safe too. Have the dev's spoke about this matter in the past maybe? If someone know anything about it please share, im curious.

Keeping your inventory organized would help alleviate having to scroll down the inventory list. I usually keep rags in my jacket so I can just quickly open the inventory and drag them.
Killawife 599 Posted November 20, 2014 Its been like this for ages. On some servers it works better than others.
Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted November 20, 2014 Its been like this for ages. On some servers it works better than others. And this. A lower pop server doesn't bog down and lag out your inventory as much but after spending time on a server is when I notice things start to get dicey. For instance I can join a full pop server and have no issues with my hotbar but after about 30 mins I'll have to hit my keys a couple of times before anything happens but at this point I'm using my inventory to control everything. LoveAffair 329 Posted November 20, 2014 My Hot bar buttons were slow to and would'nt change sometimes , but now i press my hotbar #'s really hard like 2 or 3 times and they always change easlily for me.
Irish. 4886 Posted November 20, 2014 Play on lower ping servers.. Hit that ping filter, join the green ones up top. It helps.
ChainReactor 922 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) There has been no mention of a fix yet Actually there has been. The player controller ( thats the engine module that translates player input into ingame actions ) is being reworked at the moment and already running on their internal builds. It still needs some development though to be ready to replace the old one. Hotbar is pretty laggy, yes, but most players also do it wrong. If pressing a hotbar key doesn't lead to the desired action due to lag, the worst thing you could do is start to spam that key, because that keeps on sending conflicting requests to the server ( put gun out - put gun away - put gun out - put gun away in rapid order, which is why our characters like to put their gun out and then put it back immediately sometimes. ). I either use the inventory as Caboos187 says OR stow my weapon in hand and just hit my bandage hot key so that a bandage appears in my hands. And then there is what everyone knows eat and drink until you are stuffed as often as possible and you build a reserve of strength. Being fully Energized, Hydrated and Healthy is a very good thing as it makes you more durable and better able to take damage.
SMoss 2101 Posted November 21, 2014 Since responsiveness of the hotkeys is related to server performance, the dev team does indirectly touch upon this in the latest couple of status reports: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/214474-status-report-week-of-03-nov-14http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/215118-status-report-week-of-10-nov-14
Zboub le météor 250 Posted November 21, 2014 that's it, i realised a few month ago that hotkey are server performance dependant. i thinks it has to be linked to the server side so player can see when a player takes a weapon in hand. if it was not, "friendly people" could equip a weapon without you noticing it. dragging from inventory work way better for some reasons. My Hot bar buttons were slow to and would'nt change sometimes , but now i press my hotbar #'s really hard like 2 or 3 times and they always change easlily for me. for some reason, i have the impression that the harder i hit the hotkey, the most chances i have it working. sound stupid through ^^, it's like moving your head IRL to better see in a corner in game :D .
